Money back from an Abandon game?
Went to the Exmouth Town v Plymouth Reserves Cup match last night and it was abandon at HT because of fog.
My questions in the event are what are the laws/Rules governing money back or not? I had to scoot for the bus after the Ref's decision but asked a couple of fellas before and they didn't know.
That's the 3rd time iv'e experienced it over the years once in the 60's (for a mass brawl) and our game at Derby (fog).
Looked on the FA site and can't find anything about money back or not, but as we only saw 50% of the game I expected a refund or free entrance to the replay.
Does anyone hear know from recent experience what the actual Laws/Rules are on the subject please.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
You need to ask Exmouth Town. Different clubs have different rules. How much money are you talking about?
You wouldn't normally get a refund if the game is half finished.

Sod PPI and Airport delays. This could be the next big compo claim and we can get in on the ground floor. UTC up the claims, we'll take 50% of everything we claim for you.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
Quick Google search
In terms of the match day ticket process for next season, entry to Southern Road for games will be £5 an adult and £4 for Over-65s and Under-18s. In addition, the club are also introducing free entry for all Under-16s next season. For the six pre-season matches set for Southern Road, entry will be £4 for all, but again, the club is keen to point to the ‘free for Under-16s’ which will also apply to the pre-season programme.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
Send a letter to the club, make sure it has to be signed for so you can prove they have got it.
Should cost no more than £2 to claim back your £2. Alternatively you could leave the amount in a non league clubs coffers.

Surely the FA should a have definitive Laws/Rules on the subject and not left to individual Clubs who will for obvious self interest reasons say no.dsr wrote:You need to ask Exmouth Town. Different clubs have different rules. How much money are you talking about?

BTW I have emailed the FA asking the question but thought in the meantime I will ask on here.
Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
You've written to the FA to request details of definitive rules in relation to non league games abandoned before the end to check on the legal status of your £5?
Inspiring stuff comrade.

You should get your money back if there were less than 20 overs.

Are you after compensation for your travel costs as well, or just the £2.50's worth of football that you missed?

You won't get anywhere dealing with the FA or the club in question. A matter like this needs escalating to the top, I'd go straight to the the Independent Football Ombudsman.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
Exmouth Town will still have to pay all the expenses for the game, just because it was abandoned at half time will not lower the costs by much, if at all. You paid to for admission to the venue and you got what you paid for, just a little shorter than you were anticipating but it was not Exmouth Town's fault proceedings were cut short.
However, would you have been expecting a bill asking for more money in the event of extra time being played? Same principle.

Attendance was 180 so allowing for kids and pensioners say 3 quid ahead. £540 revenue.
Referees match fees £150
Food and drink for players, club officials and match officials £100
Floodlights £30
Staffing assuming most are volunteers £100
Kit washing say £20
Pitch costs assuming their own £50
Leaves them with not much. About £90.
Grumpy spectators demanding their money back - less than 20 needed.
Support grass roots football and let it go as one of those things.

It was a County Cup game so the County FA will probably have something in their Rules which cover a match being abandoned because they normally govern the admission charges for such games up this end of the country anyway.
I suppose that they could always ask the PL to help them out because they are always 'championing' grassroots football and saying what they do for it.

Costings irrelevant when you consider the money that changes hands behind the scenes at some clubs at these lower levels.dpinsussex wrote:Attendance was 180 so allowing for kids and pensioners say 3 quid ahead. £540 revenue.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
You might do better chasing it up with Plymouth. If it's like other cups, the gate money may be shared; and Plymouth being a professional club, they might be more willing to pay the £1.50 that will be their share of the gate money. You only missed half a game, so you would have lost £1 overall.
All I can offer is my sincerest sympathy and I sincerely hope that nothing so awful ever happens to you again.

Morning all, i have been reading through the post and i must admit to being a little disappointed with many of the responses on here to somebody who is clearly out of pocket. I am guessing that non of you would be happy to have the "mick" taken out of you over such a delicate issue. As such i have taken it upon my self to open a gofund me page so that we can have a (hopefully) massive collection to help south west get his couple of quid back.

It's not the amount...It's the principle!
I suspect a counter claim from the club, stating that irrespective of the length of the match, the staff were made available to serve pies and drinks. Programme was printed to add pleasure in break times....longer on this occasion. The stadium was lit and hospitable, toilet on use and pitch played on until agreed break time.
Admin costs to investigate complaint and respond, including FA, legal etc.
You owe them £150.

Next time you’re on the turf gimme a shout and I’ll do my bit for non league football and give you the refund myself - it helps out a non league team and helps out a fellow claret in what must be a terrible time. Double win.

Re: Money back from an Abandon game?
Hi South West, some interesting points you've raised around abandon(ed) games. I went to t'Turf back when we were a Championship club - I'd driven up from London - and didn't see the game because the "heavens opened" and the game was called off before kick-off. I didn't find out until after I'd parked up and walked to the ground (I guess others did the same that day).
So, I didn't see the game - and couldn't get there for the re-arranged date.
Then there are the season ticket holders who don't get on to some of the games because of personal circumstances - and weren't able to pass to someone who could use it.
And, I'm also thinking about when we turn up - I was at Selhurst Park, for example - and the team don't play well (expressing it politely, of course).
I don't think I've ever left early, but if I had done - I wasn't at Kevin Mac's City game (though apparently he wasn't either), for example....
So, is it the number of minutes the teams are on the pitch or the quality of the football? What is the "sale of goods" contract rights that we have as football fans?
For me, "all is forgiven" when the Clarets play and win. I guess Exmouth Town is your second team?
