Andre Previn.
Not a great lover of classical music but he definitely knew all the right notes and the right order.
RIP

A musical genius. And in the famous sketch with Eric and Ernie three geniuses on view on the same stage.
RIP Andre Previn.

That sketch was a classic. Still one of the funniest lines yet which I unashamedly use myself.

Yes- that sketch was classic M&W and well remembered. Around that time, Previn was the "popular face" of classical music and it was quite good to see someone in such a "stuffy" line of work involved in that sketch (although I guess a fair few of M&W's guests were in a similar position and all willing to act as stooges).

Previn was one behind Henry VIII in the wives' count, the two I recall were Dory Previn (a singer/songwriter/poet) and, of course, Mia Farrow.

Very true dave, in fact, he was a great all round musician who I saw perform many times. RIP Andre and thanks for the memories ---and the comedy!

Very talented man.
Glad M & A didn't waste £4 on Ted Heath.

R.I.P Andre

Thanks CT oh what memories. I was living in S Wales when that was aired and I was on the floor unable to breath due to laughter and the next day my chest was sore from all the laughing.
I hadn't realised until recently that the two had done a similar sketch some time previously on ITV in Two of a kind which ran until 1968. Many of the gags were in the original as of course was the right notes quip but the 1971 caper was brilliantly executed none more so than by Mr Preview
And of course Eric"Don't forget for another £4 we could have got Edward Heath"
