No Benson in the squad? Is he injured, not selected, or is he with the first team squad?

Pity Benson isn’t playing, replaced by George Wilson who is on trial from Blackburn

No Michael Fowler? Is he still out on loan? I noticed he scored last week for us.

Half time, still 1-0. Not the best of halves but we are just about the better side.

His name was on the team sheet last week but they referred to him as trialist on the official site. Maybe we have already agreed to sign him.

Chakwana on for Blair at start of second half and to clear up the Benson absence, he’s got a hamstring injury.

Well done to the lads. Good achievement getting through to the last 16 particularly after the hiding that we got in the first game at Bournemouth!
When I originally saw the group with Liverpool involved I thought that we would have to go some to get through but -----we have!! Congratulations!!

Apologies to Tony if that was the case, however, I had also been following the game on the Club's Twitter feed and thought that the good news should be shared amongst those of us in the outer reaches of the UK!! :D

Really scrappy second half but for all the balls they played forward they never really created a chance

The last 16 comprise of these clubs who play in the Premier League 2:-
Stoke: Sunderland: Everton: Blackburn: Leicester: Swansea: Wolves: Derby: Aston Villa: Reading: Fulham and Newcastle
These clubs from the Professional Development League:-
Burnley: Nottingham Forest and Leeds
To complete the 16 teams is AFC Bournemouth who do not play in any league but enter the PL Cup Competition.

Because the Clarets finished top of their group they will have a home tie.

Presumably it's a straight knock out competition from now on.

It is! We topped our group with a minus goal difference because of our big defeat in the first match.

Yes, as per the link below which lists the teams that had gone through before today's game.

I missed that CT ---in the process of moving house for the 24th time and had forgotten about the game until I saw your reports coming through.

Played some neat football in the first half, Bayode looked impressive but the second half was a lot more scrappy
and about shape, defended superbly ... The kick-off was a strange one ! Re-taken because their player passed
to himself and then he did it again !!

Of all the hundreds, perhaps thousands of group games involving four teams that have occured there can't be many,if any, that have seen a team top the group with a minus goal difference.

Happened in the same competition last season with Bristol City. What happens if you have a good run other than one big defeat.

Where is Nick Pope getting game time, or isn't he ready for that yet?

He is basically 3rd choice, so would not be risked today, maybe even up to yesterday, just in case one of the usual 2 had an illness, or even got injured in the warm up etc.
You always have 3 fit keepers ready for duty on the day, and even an extra outfield player or 2 as a just in case, even more so when playing away,
We've taken 20 lads to many away game.
