Post by hampsteadclaret » Fri Mar 01, 2019 11:24 pm

Roger Daltrey is 75 years old today..shouldn't let it pass without a little mention for the lad from Shepherd's Bush.

The lad is wearing well.
The live performance I'll always remember was at Woodstock (not that I was there but saw the film a fair few times, some of my favourite bands there).

One of the all time great bands who created some of the best music (pre Tommy as everything post '68 is self indulgent cliched rock crap) but as individuals a set of totally egotistical horrible stuck up assholes.

Its not often I can be so in love with a bands music whilst hating the people behind it but The Who are without doubt one such band

Those sentiments are past their sell-by-date. Time has moved on from 60's stuff, it's of its time but a time with ideas if I did have respect for, I don't any more.

Happy birthday Roger, frontman of a band I have been utterly obsessed with since a late teen.

Shakin' all over/spoonful, Live at Hull, just edging out the Leeds version for me

Giving it all away (by leo sayer) on the whistle test

And this on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, full segment, high quality video, when Keith Moon nearly blew Pete Townshends head off

Good song and video from the OP. Don’t always agree with what he says but think he comes across well when on radio.

Bought Who's Next with the money from my Saturday job.
Great investment!
Hope I didn't waste my teens. Well, at least not being sensible like my mum & dad wanted.

Happy Birthday, Roger.

Not many school drop out, ex sheet metal workers can lay claim to have fronted a band at Woodstock, Live Aid, Monterey Pop, Glasto, Isle of Wight, Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, Desert Trip etc - Even forgive him for being a Gooner! Be Lucky Roger!

Some excellent replies there, plenty of Who fans on here.

I saw them at Bingley Hall, Stafford in 1979/80[?] - the loudest band I have ever heard, then or ever since, my ears were ringing for 2 days afterwards.

The Who did a great show at Live Aid, really impressive.

'Won't get fooled again' from that show.

Well my ears were ringing for three days afterwards, having seen AC/DC at King Georges Hall, so there... :-)

Never liked The Who.

What I also don’t understand is the hype they get as well as all the other bands/musicians still going from thise day. All of them have been crap for 10x as long as they were good. Look at Paul McCartney. He’s been shite since aboit 1969. 50 years of shite.

That's nothing compared to the crappo dinosaurs of the art world and media. Look how long it took for Bruce Forsyth and Terry Wogan to die off.

They say of the 60s, if you remember them you weren't there.

I'm not sure if that can be true. It should be: if you question the musicians of the 60s, then you are most certainly too young to know better.

There, of course, is some irony in The Who, My Generation.

I think it was 1973 when I first saw them live. Cotton wool stuffed in your ears was the only way to "hear me, see me..." and not have your ears buzzing with pain for the week afterwards. The bass could be "heard" through your stomach muscles.

Happy Birthday, Roger Daltrey - and thanks a lot Mr Kibblewhite.

Hi Hampstead, I was there at that one, too. I'm going to place it in 1979 - though memories fade.
