Re: Cork very lucky
Not wanting to start a knocking thread, but he is certainly the weaker of our 3 CM in my opinion, I have him behind both Westwood and Hendrick in terms of quality, form and what he offers.Danieljwaterhouse wrote:To be playing in the premier league
I am not Jeff's biggest fan, but for the pelters he gets ( and rightly so ) Cork avoids quite a bit of stick.
But he is an ever presence that's place looks nailed on every week if fit.

Re: Cork very lucky
I don’t want to add to a knocking thread but I’d suggest there’s serious questions around his ability to play at this level with his attributes. Too slow, too lightweight and doesn’t have the range of passing short or long to be effective in the premier league.

We can always replace him with another central midf - oh

Re: Cork very lucky
Considering how solid and dependable he was last season, he’s been very disappointing this.
Now we have the options available I’d go with a four of JBG Hendrick, Westwood & Brady

Nobody else better to play in there right now. Cork is a good player but his form has been very patchy this season.ClaretTony wrote:Cork is very fortunate to be in this team in my view

And like everyone else, he's been in good form prior to the Newcastle result.

Re: Cork very lucky
So many times Cork picked up the ball in space and instead of driving into that space he turned and either played it off to the side or went backwards. He has ability, but has really struggled for form this season. I can't remember him being a serious contender for a single MOM award this season?

Cork was great until his England call up. Has been distinctly average since then
Re: Cork very lucky
Cork very lucky he’s the closest thing to an out and out destroyer in the squad. Hopefully that will be sorted this summer.

Cork's had to play in 28 of our 29 premier games this season because we've had no one else to take his place . It's been obvious for quite awhile , that we needed to bring in a centre midfielder at the last window . What's the latest on defour ?

Re: Cork very lucky
and it's weird because he was our best player in the Europa League games
Re: Cork very lucky
To be honest I've felt that for the position he plays in Cork has looked a little lightweight of late, he gets knocked off the ball far too easily and often caught in possession.

Defour is going to see a specialist that the clubs trusted specialist has recommended he go see. He has a calf injury apparently.

Getting caught with the ball isn’t always his fault, there’s not as much showing as perhaps he needs to be effective.

Re: Cork very lucky
The lack of options he has to pass it are alarming more obvious when we are chasing a game.
He's fine, but the biggest thing we need next year is a midfielder who has pace, skill, strength and size.

Re: Cork very lucky
He’s a guaranteed pick I’m afraid.
Dyche likes his regulars, and certain players he would have to catch baws deep in his wife to consider leaving out.
Bit like the England goalkeepers position really.... doesn’t matter how poor the current shirt wearer is, he’s in for the long haul.
Thing is, there is no-one to come in. Hendrick could but then he moves inside and his most productive position has been given away.
Brady is fit but McNeil currently holds that slot, and Newcastle aside, does so on merit.
We are light in there in more ways than one.

Add a winger, number 10/striker and a full back or 2 and we may move forward this window, but don't hold your breath.

Good question, we've got no one available so he keeps his place, but I still think he's very fortunate given his performances this season.Grumps wrote:Who would replace him?
We were discussing it this afternoon and I think we need a strong, mobile central midfielder in the next window.

Re: Cork very lucky
Forget about D4. Won’t see him again in a meaningful role imho.
Massive, massive shame. Great player, but brittle. If my wife looked at him he’d be out for 3 months.
Mind you.... no. I’ll leave it there.

Re: Cork very lucky
Genuine question, Gibson is good on the ball, wonder if he could do the job ? It would be a risk to try it obviously
Re: Cork very lucky
I do agree with this to an extent but there are times when a lack of awareness costs him and he loses possession. It’s not pretty but on occasion, I’d rather see him just clear the ball.Danieljwaterhouse wrote:Getting caught with the ball isn’t always his fault, there’s not as much showing as perhaps he needs to be effective.
Cork is a good player. He’s certainly been up and down this season though.

Cork was poor today, he lost loads of possession.
Cork and Westwood are to lightweight to play in a midfield two, we need to address this in the Summer transfer window

Re: Cork very lucky
Sean Dyche said: “He’s seen one of the specialists we use who we have a lot of faith in, and he advised we see a second specialist who particularly deals with calf muscle injuries, so he’s in the process of doing that. “We want to get to the bottom of it because he’s had a few ups and downs with his calf, so he wants to get to the bottom of it as well. “So he’s planning that as we speak, to go and see them.”ClaretTony wrote:Dyche said he was going to see a second specialist - previously he's had his treatment in Belgium with his own medical people although he was in Portugal with us.

Cork was completely powder-puff today. He runs around a lot but he's so weak and loses the ball often. Sadly, today's performance reflects his entire season too.

What did he do?
I was pottering about and half watching it on the internet earlier and must not have seen "what went on"... Though I looked at the stats on the BBC earlier and he'd not even been carded?

Re: Cork very lucky
its Difficult to single out individuals after an inept 2nd half performance like that. However I felt Cork giving the ball away that led to their second, so soon after half time was very key. At times he can look too laid back and wasteful. He also lacks physical presence at times. That said his stats must be up there with the best and I don’t think or advocate for a minute that he’ll be rested anytime soon.
