Cork was excellent last season, but this season he'd surely be on the bench well before now if Defour was fit or we'd recruited another decent midfielder. He's becoming something of a liability and if we survive we simply have to replace him imo.

Now it's Corks turn.
Hendrick,Taylor,Wood and Lowton all had stick, yet players like JBG get a free pass yet he flatters to deceive week in week out, not good enough IMO.

We've needed such a player for the last 2 windows, hasn't happened yet,if we're not careful this will bit us on the bum soon,if not this season then definitely next season.

Cork's best spell was in a partnership with Defour, but since Christmas 2017 his form has been patchy at best, the reason he hasn't got a regular partner to bring out his best attributes.

I disagree. Like many I'm a huge JBG fan, but Tuesday and today he was absolutely hopeless and I'm not afraid to say so. If anyone plays crap most people are honest enough to say so, even if they are generally crowd favourites and Cork definitely hasn't had anything like the season he had last year.

I think we’ve needed that for a number of windows now.

Pretty much the entire division wants the same thing and they don't come cheap.

Cork had a poor second half today when his skill set wasn't up to the challenge Palace posed us, but he's had an excellent two months before this week, and even in the first half today he was instrumental in us bossing midfield.

the way we play we don't really need creative midfielders, we need destroyers and for me he lacks physical strength. It's what the Swansea fans said about him and I can see why, could do with a few extra hours in the gym - he's too nice

Best to suggest he’s a very lucky boy though. Like when he brilliantly set up our first goal at OT just the other week.

Agree he was woeful. Pre West Ham Westwood was no better.
We really need to strengthen in CM next season or we will be in another relegation battle

Problem again comes down to recruitment. Very bare in that department, which was obvious to everyone including Dyche as he chased Clucas for months.

Anyway, what was he lucky not to see red for? A poor performance?

If he's not physically fit, that's a different matter. Are you saying that there has been something wrong all season and that's why he's overworked?

Or do you genuinely believe that for a professional footballer to start 32 matches and come on as sub in 4 more, in 33 weeks, is enough to exhaust him? Because Cork is physically fit but exhausted, there is something very wrong with the sports scientists at the club. Graham Alexander (10 years older) played 61 matches ten years ago, and to save you getting your calculator out, I can promise you that was a lot more than a game per week. If modern players are driven to exhaustion by a game a week, then there is something very wrong with their fitness level.

To paraphrase Ronnie Corbett, you could terrorise a Palace player with a balloon on a stick. I have no idea whether Cork did anything to anyone, but you certainly can't use a Palace player screaming in pain and terror as evidence that anything had happened.

No idea why their player was on the floor..maybe the wind was too gusty for him? The Palace players seemed to want to get to Westwood as they walked off and he was having none of it. Kouyate in particular had a few choice words with him and wanted to confront him but was held back..Westwood had a few more words back which incensed Kouyate..Westwood just kept on walking to the tunnel.

The OP refers to the very early challenge around the half way line where Cork appears to follow through with his arm on the Palace player catching him in the throat area.
OP was 3:09 yesterday afternoon.

I'm no expert, all players are different and there aren't many Graham Alexander's about .. Cork looks tired and jaded

Flatters week in week out ? , he’s been injured and before that was our best outfield player

5 goals and 15 assist in 82 appearances i'd say that is a very poor return for one of our better players as you put it.

Pre injury, name a better outfielder this season?

Even Robbie Blake started 47 and came on as sub for 14 more that season. And he was never the poster boy for physical fitness. eight players started more than a game a week that season; five of them started 53 or more, and the ones in the forties were up to 55+ with sub appearances. If Cork is jaded by too many matches, then it's because he is not fit - either not training hard enough, or carrying an illness or injury. He is not overworked.

Wouldn't say he's unfit or injured. You need to be an athlete to play CM in the PL, Cork doesn't have the attributes. He covers the ground however whenever he gets to a tackle or chance to break play up he's there a second or 2 too late. Opposition put him under pressure when in possession and he usually falls over and gives the ball away. Has been a liability for most of the season however probably 1 of the first names on the team sheet.

He was the principal victim of our European campaign and our lacklustre summer window. in that first 20 games he played relentlessly and looked tired. He's played well in patches since like the rest of them, but he's one you'd like to give a rest if we had an able replacement.

I've said it a few times, but Toure from Nantes looks to me like a real player and just what we need; powerful, breaks up play, good awareness, neat passer and the perfect age.

So why should he have been red-carded? Have I missed it?

Also think he needs a break from the team. Often plays well in keeping possession and passing it to a more creative central midfield partner.
He has neither kept possession or had a creative partner - Westwood brings tenacity and has the ability for a great ball, but he's not made a career being a playmaker
