I had to watch a stream today, due to being poorly.
I thought we played ok, I think your being very harsh.

I'll be very surprised if most people rate Taylor the best of our defenders, though in fairness he didn't get anywhere near enough support against Zaha.
Generally we were fairly solid down the Bardsley / Tarks side of the defence.

Complete capitulation after the og. No fight. No spirit and little effort. Tried to play tippy tappy football which caused Palace zero problems. We will need to do much better than this.

Felt we were unlucky to be 1-0 down at HT, but second half was a poor display all round.

*edited* - 1-0 down, not 2.

Better team won. We were playing well first half though and I can see why Dyche made the change, but all it did was open us right up and played into their hands, which they exploited with ease due to the woeful performance by the defence. Ben Mee was abysmal.

Heaton 5 - At least 1 looked soft, looked indecisive when striker went through, thought it was going to be a pen. Special mention to the forwards who's name I wont attempt for staying on his feet and not winning a pen.

Bardsley 5 - very poor going forward, crossing was woeful at very best.
Tarky 5 - struggled defensively, distribution poor.
Mee 5 - as above
Taylor - 6 the best of a bad bunch, some good moments, but I feared for the left side today pre kick off with Zaha their.

Hendrick - 4 lost the ball countless times, when in great positions 1st half failed to deliver numerous times, righty hooked.
Cork 5 - was lost
Westwood - 6 crossing abysmal, but some great touches and attempts to build
McNeil - 4 offered absolutely zero in the final 3rd, lost posession a lot putting us under pressure.

Wood 5 - a nothing game, needed his and our only real chance to go in
Barnes 6 - got the goal, sublime lay off for the Wood chance mentioned above

JBG - 5 huffed and puffed, but again nothing much in the way of creativity.

Tactically outclassed today by the opposition, and i felt we were 2nd best in every single department.
We did have a good spell without really causing them many problems.
One thing that got to me was the amount of crosses, corners and throughballs were majorly over hit. We seemed to get in some good positions only for them to go to total waste.
Sadly we don't have the ability to switch approach or tactics during the game when it clearly isn't working, the bench lacks game changers and the approch stays the same.

Sometimes you've just got to doff your cap to the opposition doing their homework, nulifying our stregth, exposing our weaknesses and picking a team and system to do that with relative ease.

Think you have this wrong mate. He did well with Zaha most of the game, he was exposed though.

I take it you thought it was a great performance? It was dire, no real shots on goal, countless misplaced passes, sloppy with possession and in the end we should be grateful it was only 3. How about you f*** off and watch another team if you cant see the obvious and admit we were shite

I've watched the goals and Heaton couldn't have done anything for any of them, so why he's been so poorly rated don't know. Bardsley turns his body towards the goal for the first, bizarre, two narrow defending for the second, fantastic finish and then too narrow defending and comical response to Zaha, like small kittens watching a ball, keeper no chance of seeing it.

Bossed it but yet had no real chances. Passing the ball sideways and backwards to end up eventually punting the ball long does not count as bossing the game. I will say though Taylor and Westwood were the best of a bad bunch so maybe I'll give them a 5.

Ps. You dont even know me you tool

First half was decent enough but that second half reminded me of the Watford home game. Our biggest strength is also our biggest weakness (familiarity and continuity, no real plan b.

Heaton 6
Bardsley 5
Taylor 4 awful second half, failed to close down /put any pressure on the winger for the second and turned inside out and upside down by zaha for the 3rd
Tarks 5
Mee 5
Hendrick 6 one of our better players first half imo a couple of lovely passes to open good opportunities up
Westwood 7 mom
McNeil 5
Cork 5
Barnes 5 and that’s very very generous with +1 for the goal and delicate touch / assist
Wood 6 should have scored but first half ran the channels well and over all created opportunities with some good headers

Never a game in which we deserved to lose as comprehenively as it looked, but Palace do tend to exploit their incredibly pace when teams let them do it and our 2nd half performance could best be described as "45 minutes of how not to play against fast counter attacking teams"

Its not exactly news, but we concede the first goal and we struggle. So concede one when we were comfortably the better team is annoying.

First half was more than fine, 2nd half wasn't

Heaton 6
Bardsley 5
Tarkowski 5
Mee 5
Taylor 6
Hendrick 6 - unlucky to be hooked I thought, we really struggled 2nd half and the quality of crossing continued to be zero.
Cork 5
Westwood 6
O'Neil 5
Wood 5
Barnes 6

Subs
JBG 4
Brady 4
Crouch 4

We got into positions to put in great crosses time and time again. And we didn't. Palace even let us overlap on both wings at times, secure in the knowledge that the cross would be crap and they could break. That needs sorting asap.

A game of two halves. The difference, and it hurts me to say it, was Zaha. He made our defenders look foolish at times. Just as well that those times were few.

We said in the pub pre game that this was likely to be a game where the first goal was disproportionately important, and so it proved. But these marks will be higher than many on this thread because I don't think the performance was that bad.

Heaton - 6 - No chance with any of the goals, but in truth (apart from making himself big once in the second half) not really given too much to do either.

Bardsley - 5 - Tidy enough defensively, but a disproportionate number of the opportunities to find a final ball fell his way, and his lack of quality delivery was exposed.

Taylor - 6 - A willing threat going forwards, but his crossing was disappointing, and defensively he never really got to grips with Zaha, or indeed Townsend when he came on.

Tarkowski - 7 - Thought he stood up to the challenge well enough.

Mee - 6 - Didn't do enough to help Taylor for the third goal, but generally speaking he was OK.

Westwood - 7 - Buzzed around effectively and ran the show in the first half, but until his delivery for the consolation goal, his final ball was as lacking as anyone else's in the second half, and even at 1-3 he passed up a really good chance from 16 yards to reduce arrears further.

Cork - 5 - Not terrible, and it's worth remembering he and Westwood gave us the midfield platform to dominate the first half, but in the second half he was neither able to offer the craft or range of passing to break Palace down, nor the athleticism to live with Kouyate in particular on the break.

Hendrick - 6 - with hindsight, his greater athleticism would have been handy alongside Westwood in the second half, but the sub made sense at the time - even though he'd performed as anyone in the first half, we needed a natural crosser of the ball down the right hand side.

McNeil - 6 - perhaps some of the ratings reflect how much we've come to expect of him so quickly, because I thought he did OK today and he certainly wasn't markedly worse than in some of his performances in this recent run in the team. He didn't get too many crossing opportunities today (and perhaps teams are getting wide to his threat, and the fact he's only trying to go on the outside because he's a bit one footed, which is something he'll have to get to grips), and his movement will improve with time, but he showed some nice touches and on several occasions he was the one who found the range of pass to spread the play.

Barnes - 6 - Took his goal OK, looked to fluff a better chance to reduce arrears at 2-0, some nice touches but also a bit of a lack of subtlety at times when we needed a bit of craft.

Wood - 6 - Carried a threat, and very unlucky when Hennessey made a good save at 1-0 in the first half, and generally his link play was tidy enough on a day when the service into him didn't give him too many chances to score a goal.

JBG - 5 - Some neat enough touches, but he was as guilty as anyone of fluffing his lines when it came to the final ball.

Brady - 6 - He's looked bright and purposeful in his last two cameos, which is good news, but he was another that was unable to find a killer ball.

Crouch - 5 - Added a nuisance value, and was a bit unlucky not to reduce arrears further when Hennessey made a great save at 3-1.

In the last two games we've come across teams coached by managers who take a lot of care about how to stop the opposition, and unfortunately it has shown - especially once they've got themselves ahead. This wasn't awful, and we dominated the first half and were desperately unlucky to be behind to a freak own goal - but a combination of our limitations, Palace's well drilled defence and conditions which were not conducive to trying to break down a stubborn rearguard (especially not via our favoured method of getting wide and getting crosses in) meant that this was a frustrating afternoon, and certainly once we went 2-0 down for plenty of neat approach play in the middle of the park, the quality of our final ball was disappointingly poor. The shape of the game played into Palace's hands and their speedy front line, and Zaha in particular, showcased their superior individual quality.

But we've played no better than this and won this season - Cardiff away, Brighton at home even - and the real difference has been getting the break to get the first goal. Fine margins in this league and they didn't go our way today. Had they done so, the same quality of performance would probably be getting much more positive reviews.

Still in a decent enough position though, however frustrating an afternoon it may have been.

That's why I expressed surprise at an early poster making him the pick of the defence. For me Taylor and Mee never got their act together, and all 3 goals came about due to our weakness down that side which - sadly - the manager could have addressed, or tried to address early in the game.

This reminded me a bit of Newcastle at home. Ultimately all doom and gloom because of the result, but actually not the worst performance in the world and could so easily have been a different result. First half we were good and went in behind to one single serious attack and a very unfortunate own goal. Second half we fell away after their second which again came out the blue and for all our good play our crossing was woeful, let us down time and again and we didn't make actually many really clear cut chances. JBG slipped for the third which was plain bad luck, but we have to dust ourselves down and move on. Are we going to survive? Anyone watching today or on Tuesday would think maybe not, but anyone watching last Saturday would say definitely yes. We have to find a couple of wins from somewhere and one ain't going to be next Sunday, even though I've got me ticket!!! So our performances against Leicester, Wolves and Cardiff have to be more more potent than today and get us what we need. Mmmmm. It's going to be close i suspect.

Too predictable, poor crossing failed to beat first man on numerous occasions. Front 2 starved of service, again

I thought we played well. Apart from the result, we did.
Some better work at the top end and it could have been a win. Could have had 3 in last 5 mins...although some were not there to see that.

Thought we played well in the first half but even then Zaha showed 2 or 3 times that he could cause havoc.
Losing the unlucky own goal played massively into their hands of playing on the counter attack.
Whatever we discussed at half time was blown out of the water by a very good second goal from Palace. I thought after the second they completely outclassed us up until the last 10 minutes where we picked up again.
Over the full 90 minutes Palace were quite a lot better than us IMHO and tactically their manager got it spot on.

Heaton 6 - not a lot wrong
Bardsley 4 - poorest game in a long time.
Tarks 4 - ditto (he was poor at Newcastle also)
Mee 5 - better than Tarks but not good
Taylor 6 - thought he played well again but Zaha was just too good.
Cork 4 - poor and contributed very little
Westwood 7 - our best player by a mile
Hendrick 6 - thought he was doing well and didn’t deserve to be hooked at half time.
McNeil 5 - hard for him but I thought he was doing fine and got subbed a little early.
Barnes 5 - did ok....great touch in first half
Wood 4 - missed big chance and struggled after

Strange game, played ok first half without being clinical enough. The early goal second half killed us, 2 down and they'd done nothing.
The big disappointment was our lack of a response. The crosses into the box were very poor all day, we just weren't clever enough with the ball.
Westwood was excellent, certainly didn't deserve to be on a losing side. Cork was lightweight again, he gets bullied off the ball far too easily.
McNeil looks tired and needs using wisely, he could do with building up himself during the summer.

It's a game that on another day we could easily have won, but somehow didn't deserve to by the end.

I thought we played ok, I think your being very harsh.
We must have looked better on TV than we did from the CFS because I thought we did OK for part of the 1st half and looked like we could get back into it but then faded dreadfully after the interval and looked as bad as we did in October & November (or last Tuesday).

Good 1st half poor 2nd. We really need to address the midfield two in the Summer transfer window. Cork and Westwood are just not strong enough to play together
