Cardiff
I know it's been done to death but I think the max they will get is 2 wins from their fixtures and whatever they get at ours so if we avoid defeat against them and pick up a draw against wolves or leicester we would still survive , that would be a pretty lucky escape !!!

Re: Cardiff
It’s strange to think that we can even afford to be marginally worse than Cardiff in the last 9 games and still survive.
However, we don’t want to be going into those last 4 games just a few points ahead of them.

Re: Cardiff
Cardiff looked like they were going to rally after that win against Bournemouth, but they’ve just fallen apart. This last week has been a disaster for them, and Sol Bamba’s injury spells further trouble. Beat them at home and it *should* be game over.
What a shame eh...

Re: Cardiff
Safe to say as the fallout from the plane tragedy continues to play out in the public eye, their performances will suffer.
But we have to get a result v them, and probably another couple of points somewhere else.
Which we should to, we still look more than capable of surviving.

Just a shame we couldn't win today as that would have virtually guaranteed survival, from the remaining games we should be able to pick up 7/8 points surely to goodness, that would require Cardiff to win 4 and probably draw a couple unlikely.

Quite possible that Cardiff's only win between now and the season end could be at Turf Moor. None of their remaining games are easy - not even Fulham (away). The rest of their games are tough.Quickenthetempo wrote:It's a shootout between us at the Turf. Lose and we will go down.
Their away record is v poor and their home games are WHU, Chelsea, Liverpool and Palace, (who as we now know are pretty good away)

Re: Cardiff
Psychology is important if Cardiff beat WHU at home next week, which they could then the gap is only 2 points, prior to our trip to Anfield,i don't think even the most optimistic Claret expects us to return home with anything from there, this set of results puts a lot of pressure on our home game with Leicester, who are a classic counter-attacking side like Palace.
We've been fortunate Cardiff have hit the buffers in their last 3 games, but relying on their failings is dangerous,we have to put the points on the board ourselves.

you saw the highlights, did that show the full first 20 mins where Cardiff should have scored at least 1 early on ? Re: Cardiff
Yes it showed their chances and it also showed Wolves’ far better chances. It also showed their expected goals as 0.59 to Wolves’ 2.85. I don’t need to have watched the full match to see that they didn’t play a whole lot better than us. I also fail to see how you watched the whole match when you were watching two others simultaneously.Vegas Claret wrote:you saw the highlights, did that show the full first 20 mins where Cardiff should have scored at least 1 early on ? It would make for a very nervous end to the season, but it's quite possible that 2, 3 or certainly 4 draws would be enough - so long as one of those draws is against Cardiff. (I suppose that's what he mean't)Tread Warily wrote:

Had a dream last night,we go into the last game needing to beat Arsenal to stay up,1-1 in the 98th minute and Mike Dean gives us the most dodgy penalty imaginable,Barnes has been subbed so Peter Crouch steps up to take the penalty he hits it to the keepers right he tips it onto the post,it come back off the post and hits the keepers head and trickles over the line,Dean blows for full time cue Mayhem, well it is Burnley we always do it the hard way....Karma though for all the shite we have suffered against the Arsenal, and a sub plot was Arsenal had to only draw to get a Champions league place I LOVE MY CLUB X

Re: Cardiff
I think much depends on how Cardiff do against West Ham next week.
They'll know that If they can get a win (or possible even a draw) they'll be two points behind us
assuming we get beat at Liverpool. They'll then face Chelsea at home and Man City away afore
they come to the Turf and be hoping we don't pick up many points against Leicester and Wolves at home
and Bournemouth away.
If they don't beat West Ham and we manage to pick up a few points from our games
then we could easily be 7 or 8 points (possibly even more) ahead of them when they come to the Turf.
And then it's in our hands and even a draw against them might suffice.
A win for us should make us safe and too far ahead of them given their last remaining games.
At least I hope that's the way it goes.
Ideally I'd hope we can pick up a couple of wins (or even one win and three points) before we face
them and then it won't be a must win game for us as we're already too far ahead.
Be great if we could seal our survival with a win against them and go into our last 4 games
without having to worry and/or get a couple of more points.
