People talking with their hands over their mouths
Seems to be a relatively new thing in football. I even noticed Dyche doing it this week.
Everyone seems to be at in now.
Does anyone know why? Have teams been employing lip readers to get information on opponents?
Or is there a simply a bad breath issue in football?

Wouldn’t say it’s a recent thing
Didn’t it all start happening shortly after the Terry/Ferdinand situation?

Possibly because they don't want lip-readers accusing them of saying something they didn't say. And/or keeping their tactics secret.

SD does it so the opposition don't know we are going to lump it forward.

He’s quite clever, perhaps he should just ‘mouth’ “keep it short” if that’s what’s going on.Aclaret wrote:SD does it so the opposition don't know we are going to lump it forward.

Both reasons I’d consideded but is there that much of a paranoia in football?Imploding Turtle wrote:Possibly because they don't want lip-readers accusing them of saying something they didn't say. And/or keeping their tactics secret.
And are people employing lip readers to do that? It’s not that much of a stretch of the imagination to say they are but it’s not something I’ve heard discussed to be honest.

Rubbish!Aclaret wrote:SD does it so the opposition don't know we are going to lump it forward.
Everyone ( apart from you clearly ) knows it means we will continue to persist with the same approach, tactics and formation for the entire 95 minutes regardless of the scoreline.

True. We are successful at what we do.
I don’t think it would take a lip reader. Although maybe sides do, who knows.

Thank goodness they weren't doing it when Graham Taylor was England manager.

I think it's more of a fad than anything else up there with swigging water from a bottle at the side of your mouth, those stupid blue bits of tape players wear and those nose strips that were supposed to improve performance.

To stop cameras/viewers picking up on what they.
To stop any evidence being picked up if they say something they shouldn't.

Dyche doesn't want opponents hearing his tactics while he asks Woan, "I'm on the horns of a dilemma, Ian. Shall we hoof it, lump it long or kick it up to the big men?"

Klipperty took it to a new level this afternoon by flicking his snood up over
his mouth prior to gobbing off.

Re: People talking with their hands over their mouths
Dyche doing it for an entire game really really annoys me for some reason.

Re: People talking with their hands over their mouths
If spying on your opponents is as common as some pundits like to claim and "has always been part of the game" not much point in covering over your mouth to hide the tactical discussion.
Re: People talking with their hands over their mouths
Looks ridiculous. Like a couple of school girls bitching about someone.

Doing it when we're two goals behind and 3 minutes into injury time though... that's priceless...Murger wrote:Dyche doing it for an entire game really really annoys me for some reason.
