Its footage from the official video produced by the club at the time. Good video but truly awful commentators, to this day I have to watch it on mute

Ah. The only one I found before has some weird dance music playing over it.
Re: Play off final 1994
I hadn’t seen it before either. Really enjoyed it , thanks for posting.
Still annoyed that my dad wouldn’t take me to the game. There was so much I’d forgotten about that match.
Who was the bloke in the suit interviewed at the start? He had grey hair, just after the Inchy interview. Middlemass?
Was it Kevin Francis who got the second red? It looked like it on those highlights but I thought it was someone else.
And that run from Steve Davis. That would have been one of Burnley’s greatest ever goals if he’d scored.
Also, didn’t John Francis pick up a serious injury in the final? Wasn’t shown on the video.

Re: Play off final 1994
Francis stayed on right to the end and even with 9 men he was a constant threat. We kept missing great chances to put the game away (Joyce twice - one hits the bar and isn't on that footage I don't think and then Davis) Francis then missed a great chance to equalise for them right at the death which would have been totally unreal and an absolute sickener.

Re: Play off final 1994
One of my enduring memories from that day is of Kevin Francis applauding the Claret hoardes as he left the pitch.
Stockport, on the pitch at least, were great fun in those days, for me at least. Most games were memorable. Just a pity their Neanderthal supporters had to make a fist of things. I recall they even battled among themselves during the game.
I liked Kevin Francis, and of course he is related to Super Johnny Francis.

Truly awful commentary, i watched the tape once and put it away never to be seen again.
The youtube video with weird music and alternative commentary (from Radio Lancashire) is still better than listening to that blokes high pitched grating voice.

Kevin Francis was a good player and was linked with us more than once I think. He reminds me so much of Crouch as his ridiculous height meant he was quite obviously good in the air, but he was a very decent player on the deck too and people often overlooked that.

That ability to be articulate was obviously in short supply in the mid 90s. He literally cannot get any words out when we scored our second. It also cracked me up when he asked his co commentator if he’d seen what happened with the second red. When the bloke says no he apologises for asking what he thinks was “obviously an unfair question”.

It seems incredible now but for a period Stockport really wasn't a fixture we expected to win Danny Bergara (sp) did miracles there for a while. He even -managed to convince us Hancock was a step up in quality
Re: Play off final 1994
The main commentator sounds like Derek Quinn? who covers Morecambe on BBC radio lancs.. great memories n seeing parky celebrate was fantastic throw back to a great time!

John Francis went off after his injury with David Eyres playing up as the central striker. It allowed Andy Farrell to come on and become the first ever Burnley player to appear for the club on two Wembley occasions. Not too sure that John Francis played for us again after that.Dark Cloud wrote:Francis stayed on right to the end and even with 9 men he was a constant threat. The commentator is a bloke called mark briggs. A local bloke who is Burnley through and through. A few of you are harsh on his commentary as I didn't think he did a bad job. He is a real ale enthusiast who writes for the local telegraph.

I'm sorry to insult Mark but his voice is not suited to commentary and it means many people do not re-watch a great day in our history.

That's correct, I THINK? as in it's possible Johnny Francis did try to comeback from the injury, but only made a couple of starts? Not sure. (someone will know), but the "Francis" I was referring to was Kevin playing for Stockport.Silkyskills1 wrote:John Francis went off after his injury with David Eyres playing up as the central striker. Apologies Dark Cloud. I misread your post. I remember Kevin Francis being through on goal on their left wing near the end and he, fortunately for us, trod on the ball.Dark Cloud wrote:That's correct, I THINK? as in it's possible Johnny Francis did try to comeback from the injury, but only made a couple of starts? One of the first games I took my nipper to. The David Eyres goal was a beaut. Also recall the pre-match game - Vintage Clarets v Wanderers Returned I think it was billed as. Noble Peter was playing - a legend in my eyes, and Steve Bull was also playing I seem to recall.

My enduring memory of the day is being sat behind a massive coca cola sign in what was called the gallery (I think). We could see the whole pitch but not the other side of the stadium which was very odd at the time. Still a great day despite the restricted view.

I’ve got a massive poster somewhere of the players celebrating. Only 6/7 back then. Does anyone remember someone falling from a train and being killed? I remember being **** scared to leave my seat and go to the toilet when we heard.

Re: Play off final 1994
I'm going to put the kettle on and then watch that.
Without even switching it on, I can remember the commentator opening up with '....and the gladiators enter the arena'.
I once had a go at commentating on a few minutes video footage of football match when I was at the National Football Museum. Afterwards you could then listen to it back. I was cringing from the first word to the last, so I'm never too critical of anyone who has a go, but I don't think that guy was really up to the job of doing an official video.
Certainly makes you realise just how good Phil Bird is!
Edit - well, to say I've not seen it for 25 years, I was pretty close........

Re: Play off final 1994
A coach load of us went down early the day before and stopped over. Loads of Preston were travelling on the Saturday as they were in another play off that day. Our game was Sunday. The whole trip was fantastic and to see Wembley Way and the surrounding areas absolutely awash with Burnley shirts everywhere you looked brought a tear to me eye! The whole thing definitely eclipsed and (almost!) erased the memory of the Sherpa Van which had been a huge disappointment in the end. The atmosphere inside the ground (well our end!) was unbelievable and I just wish we'd put some of those second half chances away to save me watching it all through fingers over my eyes towards the end.

Re: Play off final 1994
Unfortunately the official video is the only version of the David Eyres goal I remember. Our car broke down on the M40 and it took the AA two hours to put in a temporary fix so that we could ditch the car in Amersham and get the train into Wembley. The result was that we missed the first half hour of the match and were sprinting up Wembley Way when Eyres equalised. The noise outside the stadium was deafening and it was pretty obvious it was the 35,000 Clarets cheering, not the 9,000 Stockport fans. I bought the video to fill in the missing half hour of that afternoon. I only watched it once because Mark Briggs' commentary made my teeth itch.
I heard a bit of Guy Havord's BBC Radio Lancashire commentary of the game a few weeks ago when they broadcast the Gary Parkinson radio documentary. Now that's a commentary that sends shivers down your spine or, in my case, brought tears to my eyes. Brilliant stuff.

Not sure if it’s true or not. It certainly wasn’t on the train I was on. Older kids were playing football where the doors were on ours.
