Can recall not that long ago plenty of folk on here claiming it was all Ben Mee who made him look good!

If you read their forum there are quite a few who think he’s poor. I’d have him back in a heartbeat.

Who would he replace as we have Ben Gibson as well?

I'm sure Keane (and Trippier) would walk into our team right now.

Keane would start for me. Better than we have imo. Not much in it though.

He looked like an on form product of the Dyche school of central defenders, great anticipation, quick despatch, no attempt at the clever stuff. Excellent but no better than what we still have.

A classy defender but still doesn’t look comfortable in this Everton side.

Excellent today but he usually suffers from the other Everton centre back wandering about, trying to force the game. Same with the full backs.
Ben Mee never wandered so was always perfect for him.

Is a very good player, just been poorly managed at Everton and his defensive partners haven't always been suited to him.

Was unlucky to join at a time when Ashley Williams decided to fall off a cliff ability wise and Jagielka is also on the wane.

He's much better than Ben Mee and probably better than Tarkowski so take your pick.

. noticed Keane let a ball run through to the keeper around the half hour mark and Keane had no idea Mane was lurking behind him.

Be interesting to see who is closer to getting picked for the England squad again.

I rate Keane highly but I've not seen him have too many good games for Everton - he certainly did yesterday though.

Yes. I just wonder was it the other way round!!!

Keane and Mee were superb. I'd have him back irrespective what Evertonians think.

Keane and Tarkowski would be an incredible partnership.

He is way better than Mee. Both defensively, athletically and as a footballer.

For people who think he has played poorly in the past (including me) for Everton I read a half pager in the Sunday Torygrapf yesterday explaining that he had been diagnosed with a hair line fracture of the skull, so that might explain some of his poor earlier displays.

A good read if you can access the article.

Tht was fairly recently. The problem he had early one was that he was surrounded by ageing, declining players like williams jagielka and baines or inexperienced players filling in for coleman in front of a young keeper.

Hes not a kid himself these days. But he has been playing in a poor back 4.

Not so CfC, just found a link from elsewhere as the ST was not available.

ED: When I say not so I don't mean that about surrounded by ageing player.

Not another thread of whimsical reverie based on our previous players,Ings,Scotty,Jay Rod,Austin,Tripps Keane ,et al some on here would have Derek Scot back given half the chance. As for MK he was always a class act and was only a mater of time before he got it together. To compare him to Ben Mee is like comparing a Bentley with a Vauxall.

That’ll be the aging players then + the managerial changes that have happened their in MK’s time.

You might well be right but not having seen much of this pairing in a 4-4-2 how do we know?

Gibson must be really p!ssed off at not getting a chance, particularaly right now.

The CB role is all about the understanding with your defensive partner. That's why Ben Mee has been such a consistently good player for us over an extended period. He's played a conventional anchor role alongside two partners who are both technically better footballers, Keane and Tarkowski.

I've seen very little of Everton and didn't see yesterday's game but last season Williams in particular was nowhere near the steady presence Keane was used to and in addition Everton's midfield didn't provide him with the protective shield that we did when he was at his best.

I think it was SD who described him as a 'Rolls Royce' defender. Can't argue with that, certainly whilst he was here.

Links in today's media suggesting a £50 million move to either Arsenal or Spurs in the summer.

Wonder if we had a sell on clause....

It is no coincidence that as soon as he got a decent player alongside him that things improved - even van Dijk is better with a decent player next to him - though the thought he might have had to have an amputation won't have helped

No sh*t, playing with crap players around you isnt gonna help you look good but thats a bit different to some Burnley fans views that Keane was overated and average and only looked good because of Mee who was the real star player

Keane is good going forward but like when he was here he needs first and foremost to be good at defending...work in progress.

I was talking to an Everton supporter the other day and he said the reason Michael Keane struggled last season was down to the system they played more than the player himself
