Completely run-of-the-mill deflected block OG. You don't drop players for that kind of thing.
Whole team has had a two game blip after an amazing run.

Bardsley came in just before Heaton and our season has turned around.

We did try playing Lowton again for a game, the result: 5-1 Everton. Never looked back.

Bardsley is one of our most inportant players right now. First bad game in as long as i can remember. And up against some of the trickiest wingers in the league.

Takes a special level of fullback to stand up to Zaha when he’s on form. Lowton has had many shockers against 1v1 players.

Bards is one of the key reasons for our turnaround especially his 1st min tackles against liverpool west ham. However lowton is a better crosser and we need to improve that. It may be time to think about it now.

Fully expect Bardsley to start at Liverpool, and rightly so.

Bardsley had a poor game on Saturday, and for the first time in a while, it was obvious we were missing the superior quality of Lowton's delivery (at least at his best) from right back. As a result, you can make an argument with hindsight that perhaps the more effective half time sub than the one we made might have been to bring Lowton on for Bardsley. But that doesn't mean Bardsley should be dropped, certainly not for the Liverpool game when Bardsley's defensive attributes will be much more in demand than his attacking ones.

It does mean that before the Leicester game, we need to find a way of getting more quality delivery from the right flank generally. It was quite obvious in the first half on Saturday that Palace were willing to give us space on the outside down our right, on the basis that neither Hendrick nor Bardsley are reliably dangerous crossers of a whipped ball. In effect, they were sacrificing on that side in order to make sure they cut down our space on the left, and in particular to ensure they prevented McNeil getting the ball in early.

What we need is a change of tactics when the wind is howling like it was on Saturday. Fewer long/high passes would be a start.

Easier said than done, though. Palace were well drilled and denied us the opportunity to play a more fluid game - that's the comparison with West Ham at home, for example. And the conditions made it difficult to play a more calculated game against an opponent intent on congesting the space as much as possible (as yesterday's Merseyside derby also showed). Pace helps get around that because it means the ball doesn't need to be quite as precise, and we don't have too much of that.

On days like Saturday, we're always going to end up playing a lot crosses from in front of or alongside the opposition defensive line. The challenge is to get the delivery better.

I thought this thread might’ve been started by a Villa fan, because he certainly isn’t getting back in the Burnley first eleven anytime soon.

Bardsley lives for kicking scousers about the pitch. Odds on he will be suspended for the next two though.

Lowton os a better crosser. But he has been way off it this year. And hooking bardsley for one poor 45 mins amd an own goal wouldve done more damage than keeping him on imo.

Got to be one of the poorest efforts of the season so far. Maybe you'd like to suggest Heaton be dropped for conceding 5 in two games or that Peter Crouch start a game as CM in place of Cork to add some height in the centre of the park?

Not sure it would have done any more damage to Bardsley than to Hendrick (or in the Newcastle game, McNeil). Bardsley's a fully fledged grown up who is more than capable of accepting these decisions in the particular circumstance of a match that isn't going our way. That's why he's such a valuable influence in the squad. But you're right about Lowton, and his crossing hasn't been stellar when he has played this season - which is why I only said it was a credible argument. I'm not necessarily saying Dyche should have done that.

Phil is fast achieving cult status as a hard tackling no nonsense defender.
All three goals originated in crosses off the left wing.So would you drop Charlie too?
