Next five games will define the season
Re: Next five games will define the season
Who says we're not capable of doing similar but don't expect
it to start at Liverpool.
Our next two home games are critical (Leicester and Wolves at home)
One win against those two will go a long way alongside a win against Cardiff
and that may suffice.

Re: Next five games will define the season
We can but it’s about momentum.
We just lost two on the bounce and could be 3 tomorrow. I hope we win by the way.
They just won.
After the scoucers we play the Foxes with a new manager who won today.

We are the only team that has looked capable of beating Man U. sine OGS took over, for example.

And you go into a blind panic after Cardiff get one win, despite being utter rubbish in their previous games!Vegas Claret wrote:I swear I hope at the end of the season you come on here and tell us "I told you so" !! Got to admire your faith for sure

no panic from me mate at all, we didn't show up at Newcastle, couldn't defend against the pace of Palace and have Liverpool and then Vardy in the next two games. Nowt I can do about it from here, if we go down we go down. I'll be disappointed and ****** off for a few days but panic is not something I do when it comes to football - don't get that mixed up with annoyance. I am annoyed because the board didn't back the manager and it's made his job evidently more difficult

Re: Next five games will define the season
When we have weekends like this the other teams become world beaters and we'll never pick another point up EVER again, it's completely the opposite when we win and results go our way. The truth is in the middle.
If we decided it is a two horse race now between ourselves and Cardiff we would go into it as heavy favourites, we currently have one more game to play (admittedly away at Liverpool), a two point cushion which is effectively three with goal difference and the rival team to play at home, i have faith in the manager and the players as time and again they have delivered, i have no reason to doubt them and don't plan on starting now.
The summer recruitment was **** poor but we cannot do anything about it now, we play twice before most of our rivals and need to start putting points on the board, it will be tight but i'm positive we'll manage it.

The point is, Cardiff suddenly get a win against the odds against West Ham, despite being utter rubbish in recent weeks and all of a sudden they look a better bet for survival than we do.Vegas Claret wrote:no panic from me mate at all, we didn't show up at Newcastle, couldn't defend against the pace of Palace and have Liverpool and then Vardy in the next two games. In our next away game to Liverpool we have small chance of getting a result.
In Cardiff's next away game they have absolutely no chance. That's the difference between the sides.

Re: Next five games will define the season
Exactly, Goody, who on this board would swap positions with Cardiff, even after today's games? I posed this question elsewhere and no-one came back with a preference for Cardiff's situation.
Don't see that much has changed right now. IF we beat Cardiff I reckon that will probably be enough (as I don't think they'll catch up the 5 or 6;points (with goal difference) from the other games.

I never said Cardiff have a better chance than us, must be mixing me up with someone else. Cardiff were decent today but West Ham wouldn't have beaten Crawley today, they were dreadfulSpijed wrote:The point is, Cardiff suddenly get a win against the odds against West Ham, despite being utter rubbish in recent weeks and all of a sudden they look a better bet for survival than we do.

Re: Next five games will define the season
Not sure a Cardiff home win against West Ham was much of a surprise to be honest, and neither was a Southampton home win against Spurs, who’ve also been very poor recently.
We need to take care of things ourselves. Are we up to it? Who knows.

Re: Next five games will define the season
Cardiff's next four games are Chelsea, man city, us and Liverpool.
That's 3 defeats guaranteed at least.
We have to play Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester, Cardiff, Bournemouth and Wolves in the same period.
You'd think we are going to be lucky to get any points if you listen to the doom mongers on here!

Re: Next five games will define the season
The beauty, or otherwise, of football is that no one really knows
what could happen.
Doom mongers could see us losing our next three/four games
and facing Cardiff knowing it's an absolute must win.
And it does seem as if it's heading down to the Cardiff game
unless we somehow manage to pick up 5/6 points from the next three/four
and then it's an absolute must win for Cardiff.
I do think we'll fight to get points on the board over the next 3/4 but
one dreads losing and a few injuries.

The last time we were up against it - Brighton away - after we had dropped into the bottom three on account of Cardiff's unexpected win at Southampton.jurek wrote:The beauty, or otherwise, of football is that no one really knows

Re: Next five games will define the season
If we go down, the simple fact of the matter is we absolutely deserve to.
Re: Next five games will define the season
After the Brighton game we were two points in front of Cardiff but had 5 of the top 6 to play. They had four.
After today's game we'll still be at least two points in front of Cardiff but will have played Spurs and Liverpool.

I'm not sure we're that much better than Cardiff tbh. It might just come down to who wants it more.

Even if we lost to Cardiff I doubt it would even be possible to get relegated if we won the other seven anyway.

Just working on the assumption that there are too many six pointers for all the teams at the bottom to get to 51 points.Devils_Advocate wrote:Why?

I wondered that but with Brighton one game behind i think it is definitely possible for us to win every game but cardiff and go downSpijed wrote:Just working on the assumption that there are too many six pointers for all the teams at the bottom to get to 51 points.
You'd get some good odds on it though!!
Edit: itd be tight though with how many of the bottom teams bournemouth play
Re: Next five games will define the season
Cardiff next game against Chelsea isn't until the Sunday 31st March
so they've got 3 weeks to prepare.
Not sure that will be an advantage. In one way it will
as they will be fired up knowing a result (even a draw possibly) will
still keep them in the frame depending on how we do in our
two games at home against Leicester and Wolves which are both on Saturday.
They'll, and we will know where we stand.
So our next two games may well define our season and we know
that Leicester and Wolves won't be easy. Neither will Bournemouth away.
Ideally we need a win against one of those so the difference returns to 5 points
before they play Chelsea. And then a point at Bournemouth.
Can't see Cardiff getting anything from Man City away so the Chelsea game
becomes critical for them.
Having said all that then if we lose to Leicester and Wolves then
we're in trouble and probably facing Cardiff with each team knowing a win
would probably go along way in keeping us or them up.
I think the fans could be the difference.
If we can get the Turf rocking we might just get the points required before we face Cardiff.

2 down from those 5
Re: Next five games will define the season
I've got an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach and
it doesn't feel too good.
The game against Cardiff looks ever more like an absolute must win
as can't see us getting much against Wolves and not that much either down at Bournemouth.
Hopefully they'll lose to Chelsea and Man City and we pick up something against Wolves and Bournemouth.
Even if it's only one point.
I don't think my nerves will stand it if it continues.

How many more negative threads are you going to start tonight cricketfieldclarets ?
We’re all disappointed with recent results but you’re really determined to undermine the club.
