Gibson
Anyone think he will start next season ahead of Ben Mee as we look to evolve again.
Cant see him hanging around if he isnt in the first eleven. And seems strange to have such a highly rated English defender at his peak age sitting around on the bench. Especially when we paid so much.
Mee has been great. But would like to see our style improve. And Gibson definitely appears the better footballer. And Middlesbrough had a great defensive record with him. Even at this level.

Re: Gibson
Surely, his best position would be in midfield alongside Tarkowski and Edgar.

Re: Gibson
I'm not sure about him replacing Mee, but I can see him not being at all happy if it looks like another season on the bench.
Re: Gibson
Been wondering the same thing. It's not unusual that our new players spend a year on the bench 'getting used to things', but it'll be difficult to have him doing the same again next year, especially financially. He's our joint record signing.
Ben Mee has had a poor season and I'd like Gibson to replace him.

Re: Gibson
Reckon Tarky will be off at the end of the season for a big fee.
Mee and Gibson starting next season with a new midfielder and defender for some of the Tarky fee.

We could have got Mel Gibson to sit on the Bench for half the price!

Re: Gibson
I did think we would go 3 at the back at some point. Especially with europe. Obviously we tried it at spurs and it seemed pretty sucesful. But havent much since. In fairness 442 has served us well since everton.
The fact that our starting 11 every week is 11 players from last season is one of our biggest issues imo.
Next season id like to see a minimum of two but ideally 4 new faces in the 11.

Re: Gibson
I don't think that most Burnley fans have seen enough of Gibson to be able to fully compare him to Ben Mee.
Re: Gibson
I've seen enough of Gibson to know that he is miles better at distributing the ball than Mee.ClaretLoup wrote:I don't think that most Burnley fans have seen enough of Gibson to be able to fully compare him to Ben Mee.

Re: Gibson
Everything depends on what division we are in. Get relegated and we can say goodbye to Heaton, Tarks and probably Pope and Barnes
Re: Gibson
Had the perfect opportunity to give him a chance after the Everton debacle on Boxing Day, when Ben Mee should have been dropped along with Hart for me. It's ridiculous the lack of opportunity some of our new signings get, must be pretty demoralising turning up to training day in day out knowing you aren't going to be given a chance.

Re: Gibson
Ok. So, why won't that work? I'm fairly sure the majority of centre half pairings favour kicking with the same foot. Also, these are meant to be elite Premier League footballers so should be able to use both feet adequately.
For what it's worth, I also think Mee and Gibson will be our centre half pairing next season.

Re: Gibson
We signed him because it looked like Mee was leaving, in addition to many crying out for a fourth central defender after Keane had left.

Ben Mee always takes the last 6 games of the season off anyway. He will get his chance.

Re: Gibson
They're not only both left footed, they're both players who have moved infield from playing at left back in their younger days. They've spent the entirety of their careers to date playing on that side of the pitch, receiving the ball on their better foot and so on.Jakubs Tash wrote:Ok. So, why won't that work? Because good left footed players are rarer than right footers, you'll get a lot more right footed centre halves who get used to playing on the left, than left footers who have got used to playing on the right.
It's going to be a problem for us because Gibson is an excellent player, but so is Mee and he's also our outfield captain and one of Dyche's most trusted and long serving outfield generals - a bit like Heaton. There's therefore every chance we see Gibson move on in the summer.

Re: Gibson
He didn't play well v Crystal Palace. Prior to that, he was outstanding v Spurs and Brighton. If someone wanted to sign him a few months ago, I don't think they will have been put off by a couple of below average performances. Huge potential to get even better.Chip Harrison wrote:On current form who would buy Tarky?
