Taylor/McNeil Combination
One of the positives today was the way these two combined-it led to our most creative attacking spells. The crossing of both was excellent, against one of the best defensive sides in Europe. They found good positions

McNeil still has much to learn but the ability is clear to see - bullied England’s most highly rated right back. Taylor’s progression this season has been one of the few consistent highlights, oozes Premier League quality now.

Our only 2 players who looked like they belonged at this level today.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
If Taylor can work on his crossing he could be not only be our best player but one of the most talented full backs in the PL. What I like about him he shines against the top teams

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
I think im probably in a minority but i dont see what taylor brings. Sure he made some last ditch tackles but his positioning is abysmal. And im sure we concede a higher amount of goals down our left than anywhere else.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
Good grief. We were playing a team who have amassed a points haul that ordinarily would have them well clear at the top of the league. No one in our team is in that class but that's hardly a criticism.jrgbfc wrote:Our only 2 players who looked like they belonged at this level today.
The two of them (but especially McNeil, who might one day be in that class) did well today going forward, and Taylor defended well, but for balance it must be said that pretty much every threatening attack Liverpool mounted came down our left.

A simple 'Hendrick is best' would have sufficed from you, really.

This thread isn't about Hendrick and I didn't mention him. Odd comment.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
What are you on about ksr?
Anyway, grim as this weekend has been (if only I'd had a bet on a 5-match "Accumulator of Doom" I would at least have had financial compensation) I really enjoyed watching both Taylor and McNeill today. In the 2nd half Dwight really showed his class with that beautiful "gliding" style he has. If he can do it at Anfield he can do it anywhere and our left flank looks good for the future if we can hold onto these two.

Taylor not sure but you cannot knock his 100% effort as for Dwight he’s going to be one heck of a player, I just wish we had tried to look for him more yesterday he smashed em on the left

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
Much as I like Taylor and admire his effort and commitment, his crossing is pretty average at best and his positional play is often poor - still he’s learning and hopefully the best is yet to come. If he had a right foot it would help too

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
Seriously? Liverpool were there for the taking? At Anfield. In a must win game for them too. With a team full of international, some world class, players. A team who have only conceded 16 league goals all season prior to yesterday. Wow, I can't wait for our win bankers to turn up.RalphCoatesComb wrote:They were there for the taking yesterday. We played well yesterday but, as you say, we made mistakes and got punished. There are reasons why we make mistakes against these players though, they force you in to them as they are better than us.
Anyway, I still think we will stumble to enough points to stay up but it will be a wee bit nervy! Just wish Cardiff would feck up a little bit more

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
We played reasonably well yesterday. The frustration is pretty much all of their goals came from our own mistakes.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
Who would of thought, the best right winger in the league against two attacking players would start more attacks than at the other end where two limited footballers who defend first and offer nothing in attack play?claretspice wrote: The two of them (but especially McNeil, who might one day be in that class) did well today going forward, and Taylor defended well, but for balance it must be said that pretty much every threatening attack Liverpool mounted came down our left.
I'm sure you closed your eyes when Hendrick left Bardsley to deal with the 2nd goal? Awful play.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
I certainly don’t agree with that but they were our two outstanding players yesterday. Taylor just keeps on improving and McNeil was terrific again.jrgbfc wrote:Our only 2 players who looked like they belonged at this level today.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
Against the best if you make mistakes you get punished,we have to try to minimise these lapses in our next 4 winnable games, the positive is we scored twice yesterday against the best defence in this league.
McNeil is going to be important in the run-in,he is one of our few game changers that can create chances.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
What??? We were playing one of the best teams in Europe on their own ground, what did you expect from us? We lost by two goals, one deep into injury time, scoring two in the process, just exactly what did you expect from this game? Supposedly better teams have come here this season and got battered, our only concern from this weekend is that other results went against us otherwise losing 4-2 at Liverpool to a very late goal would not be considered in any way a disgrace. For the first 10/15 minutes of the second half we had them pinned back. This was not a bad performance given the opposition and was a good deal better than the one served up against Palace at home.jrgbfc wrote:Our only 2 players who looked like they belonged at this level today.

Re: Taylor/McNeil Combination
I didn’t really think Taylor was good enough until the last few games where he has really improved and shows a lot of heart. McNeil is a real find and I hope he doesn’t get poached before we see him really establish himself.
