Best coffee

Post by Billy Balfour » Mon Mar 11, 2019 8:36 pm

We have a best tea thread - so why not have a coffee thread.

Please talk about your favourite coffee here - be it freshly ground coffee beans, pod or jar.

BTW: Anyone found any Dolce Gusto compatible pods that are as good as the real thing or aren't there any worth bothering with if you're only going to save a couple of quid or so?

Millicano, if I have instant coffee that’s good enough for me. Otherwise, got some nice Columbian ground beans for the perculator (rarely gets used)

Certainly was, on Halstead Street. One of our more venerable posters ( Iluvmywife ), still keeps nails and screws in old green Stomike tins in his Garage !! ;) I'm advised Cherry Blossom shoe polish was once manufactured in an old mill, next to the " Town Mouse " ...

It’s like asking who your favourite serial killer is. All coffee is rank.

Tea is for winners.

Tea is for those who you don't want in the trenches with you.

Taylors of Harrogate - Strength 4 Italian blend is lovely.

Asda did a Xmas special that was nice as well, but they have binned that!

Tea.

Coffee has an amazing smell, severely let down by the taste. Let down further by the aftertaste.

They shouldn't be discussing their preference for tea on the lovely coffee thread. It's a new low, if you ask me.

We deserve to get relegated quite frankly. Tea has its own thread for weirdos.

Has to be fresh coffee really. Can you imagine how terrible instant tea would be if it existed?

In fact, why has nobody invented it yet?

Anyway, morning brew for me at work is one for the Lyons coffee bags. You can get 15/18 in a box for about £2.60ish from Sainsbury. It's good enough without the mess, but personally, coffee tastes 100% better freshly ground.

We buy the house blend from About Coffee in Colne and it's wonderful stuff. Grind the beans and use right away. Supremely strong and really good flavours.

I drink coffee, at home, but can’t be done with the Starbucks/Costa/etc., fannying around. If you have found one you like lucky you but when travelling I’ll always take a drinking chocolate.

To be fair, tea is my main drink. Has to be Yorkshire tea, everything else is just not strong enough.

Coffee has it's place and I agree, our friends across the pond are awful at coffee, I prefer to think it's more Italian

Tesco Italian. It's a quid cheaper than the other ground coffee and twice as good. Unfortunately it's now called Tesco 'Italian-inspired' coffee.

Bosscat, the Civet Cat is responsible for perfume, the ingredient comes from a gland.

'Italian-inspired' is a bit poncy compared to Tesco Italian. Obviously someone has legally challenged them and they've had to change the title. Sad.

I used to go on a five-mile hike to get Lavazza from an Italian Deli, but now ubiquitous in the UK. It's 5 strength though, which is a bit much for me.

There are strict laws on product names and descriptions.

‘Italian coffee’ has to come from Italy.

‘Italian-inspired coffee’ can be made anywhere.

I must say I have tried every bean on the market here in Ireland and I still say Bewleys Java is the best I have come up with . Again it must a bean and you have to grind it yourself .
In the UK I must say Neros was very good .
