The one outside the Plaintree in Burnley makes me laugh for those not familiar it was a pub on the outskirts of the town centre near a roundabout and in front of a rather tired mill " Urban living redefined "

Having waded through all this I have come to the conclusion that if everyone had their way we wouldn't even have conversations because somebody somewhere would be p!ssed off with a phrase. However, moving forward, and if you think about it, at this precise moment in time we should really be emphasising the positives, get a life, move on and stay strong. With respect it's just banter after all. Basically, to be fair, I have to say man up and literally get off the prick list, seriously. ;)

Man up.

I used to work with a right prick who used to say it about ten times a day, even when it was highly inappropriate - like when someone was suffering a bereavement. Mind you, that time the person really did 'man up' when she chucked her cup of coffee at him. And HR 'manned up' when he went running to them about it - he was told to 'man up'.

Classic when you used to break up with a girl 'You've got a small d!ck anyway'. To which I once replied (proudly in a crowded club) 'But it made you scream every time'. I often wonder if she ever used that particular annoying phrase again.

This.

I was at the counter of a posh(ish) bistro in Richmond on Thames a few weeks ago.
The early 20s studenty-type immediately before me said to the server, "Can I get a medium latte?"
I immediately jumped in and said, "No, YOU can't get it, she'll get it for you. It's please may I have?".
He was so gobmacked he didn't say a word, turned on his heels and left.
Good job he didn't get aggressive; I'm too old for fighting.

The difference between 'can' and 'may' I find seems to elude most people. I learned that lesson at school and never forgot it.
Can: a possibility/a potential achievemnt.
May: a request or a permission given (or even a really inept politician).
Thus the awful phrase 'can I get' in any retail or food establishment should really be met with 'yes you can but if you come this side of the counter I'll have to have you arrested, but you may politely request that I get it for you'.

Having said all that, in the final analysis and after all is said and done, what we are talking here is things sometimes touch a raw nerve and, as such, when we run it up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes it, we find that the matter should be closed and the whole subject put to bed. People who complain about things all the time really rub me up the wrong way and get my goat, so I have decided that it's time to re-think the whole situation, get together and have a meeting of minds to see exactly what can be done about the whole affair. I have some ideas that I want to run by you all to see if anyone can give me more insight.

Or (a frequently-used alternative to the above)

'If I'm (being) honest' - again implying that such a stance is unusual in the speaker !!

Or the speaker is being purposely obtuse as in 'but you aren't know that are you. I'll just keep you guessing.'

Not usually heard but often found particularly on shop doors :-

"Back in twenty minutes"

From when ? Put a time on for crying out loud. :D
Best one so far imho.Apart from mine of course.

Another thing that irritates me is when some scrote calls me 'lad'..I feel it's rather condescending...

Pretty much anything if it's said in a Steven Gerrard accent. Or an Eddie Jones accent. Or in cockney rhyming slang to show how Lunnon someone is, but they just come across as a knob.

and from todays' wonderful course that I had to put up with: "Indicative behaviours" and "Outcomes", particularly the latter when used in a context where the word "outcome" made no sense.

and "Le-uh". Can you write a Le-uh to...............

People who start a sentence with “No” repeatedly when you’re discussing something. Just makes me instantly stop listening to them.
