Views From Grounds
Is this one of the best views ever from a football stand?

You don't just see in, you go inside. The toilets are in one of the houses.Bosscat wrote:Yeah very pretty but these have to be the strangest Turnstiles in the UK......

Re: Views From Grounds
I was expecting something like that bud and yes you're right but at least if the game is rubbish you can relax and enjoy the view. It IS a big ground though so any end would be poor view in that sense, it holds 60k.Rick_Muller wrote:thats a cr@p view - you can barely see the goal at the other end...

It's a nice view of the mountain, yes.houseboy wrote:Is this one of the best views ever from a football stand?
Not so good for the actual football pitch though.

Yeah but if the games crap you can look at the volcano and speculate what would happen ifRowls wrote:It's a nice view of the mountain, yes.

Re: Views From Grounds
I got to thinking after, if you are a lover of nature and all things scenic I wonder if the view actually detracts from the game? I could mentally drift away with that scene which is a bit of a bugger if the match is decent.Rowls wrote:It's a nice view of the mountain, yes.

I only came across this today after looking at some Copa Sudamerica results and noticed Palmieras of Brazil playing a team called Melgar, who I hadn't heard of. They are from Peru and I came across this stunning ground. Actually some South American grounds have views not dissimilar, particularly in Peru, Equador and Colombia.
Still we have a nice view of the hills from certain parts of the Turf.

Churches, chimneys, row after row of terrace rooves and then the glorious Lancashire countryside rising above.
Longside upper has the best view of the countryside in the whole country.

Re: Views From Grounds
At the other end of the scale (and this always cracks me up) take a look at a Polish lower division away end.

And here's another.

There's loads like this - now that would acftually stop me watching football altogether.

Re: Views From Grounds
Bit niche, but from the stand at Predni Kopanina you can watch planes come in to land at Prague Airport while supping ale. Its 8th tier, mind so the football is awful ha

Once went to a game at Colo Colo's ground. That had a cracking view of the Andes.

You can even take in some Cricket if correctly seated in the JHU, at either end of the season !
Re: Views From Grounds
Who remembers the wooden seats (benches) in the upper tier of the River side stand at Rovers?
They were just benches with painted white lines to indicate where each seat was.

Yes but at least they had a adult space... had a similar set up a Stockport but they used Tom Thumb as an arse model.Spijed wrote:Who remembers the wooden seats (benches) in the upper tier of the River side stand at Rovers?

I remember the Nuttall St stand at Ewood with wooden steps that reminded me of being in Noah’s Ark on Blackpool pleasure beach.Spijed wrote:Who remembers the wooden seats (benches) in the upper tier of the River side stand at Rovers?

And who remembers sitting at the end of the main stand at St. James park, Exeter.

A recent favourite: Vaitahu at Tahuata in the Marquesa Islands. The 'stand' is apparently about a thousand years old.
