2 probably is too many. Years ago they opened in Nelson but that was one of a few they closed. Wrong town.

Theyre making a wrong decision
That is the perfect place for fans coming from train, people getting the bus to manc, people waiting to go on weekends away and day trips etc
The boot is being preferred due to its beer garden.
No doubt some 1 else will take it on

Why would you get off the train and walk to Park View?basil6345789 wrote:Agreed but The Park View should fill the gap.
I think that the later hours and changes in youngsters drinking habits have made Spoons a bit redundant now. We used to meet up and do a certain route which covered most of town for a drink ..... these days, this side of town is ignored or closed by the time that most youngsters get into town.

I thought the youngsters went there for a 8am brekky instead of the traditional kebab after a night out these days.bfccrazy wrote:Why would you get off the train and walk to Park View?

20 x brekkies
60 x pints
Thats 1 group
Making a big mistake
Re: Manny Rd Spoons up for sale
Hard to see anyone wanting to take on a pub in Burnley town centre these days with the way the nightlife in town has deteriorated. Might end up with another poncey cocktail bar like Illuminati the way things are these days.

I was out for 1st time in about 2 years a few weeks ago and just couldn’t wait to get home .... Same music played from when we were going out ... and then went into Panamas and saw air max tracksuits everywhere nothing against tracksuits but at 1am on a night out was weird.

They don’t really like those people going in anymore ..... my mate lived in the flats across from there and it was always fun seeing the hoardes walking down Manny Rd like some apocalypse.Quickenthetempo wrote:I thought the youngsters went there for a 8am brekky instead of the traditional kebab after a night out these days.

Re: Manny Rd Spoons up for sale
We were in that spoons once just after 8am for an early kick off and there was a couple in there who had got married the day before and then got hammered in town and ended up in spoons for breakfast.
You could tell they had got wed the previous day as she was in her wedding dress and he was suited up. It is a special place

Being sold due to no one being able to decide whether its 'walking distance' from the town centre.

Went out in town on the 27th December, was dead until about 10. Went in at least three places and were the only ones in there!
Re: Manny Rd Spoons up for sale
Rawtenstall needs a Spoons, about time they turned the old cinema into one. Ideal spot across from the new bus station.
All well and good with these new bars selling real ale but a good pub is needed that serves up some food too.

I heard a rumour that they were actually planning on buying the old cinema but it was quite a while ago so i presume it wasn't true/fell throughAclaret wrote:Rawtenstall needs a Spoons, about time they turned the old cinema into one. Ideal spot across from the new bus station.

Re: Manny Rd Spoons up for sale
It will be an expensive purchase with big business rates etc.
If Spoons can't make a go of it then I don't think another landlord could.
What else could it be used for?

Aye i’m sure they haven’t bothered checking the profitability of the pub before deciding to sell.theroyaldyche wrote:Quite busy at 9am last friday. Group of 20 lads waiting for a wkend trip to begin

Yep believe they were priced out. Heard they were looking at the Queens as a possibility. That end of Rawtenstall near the old cinema needs sorting out.JohnDearyMe wrote:I heard a rumour that they were actually planning on buying the old cinema but it was quite a while ago so i presume it wasn't true/fell through

I'm sure Spoons highy paid accountants don't think so.theroyaldyche wrote:Making a big mistake
Its days as a pub are over. The building would make a decent restaurant and I mean something with a USP (for the town centre) that could drive the punters in, rather than another average curry house.

Whilst the nightlife appears to have gone down the swanny, the restaurant business seems to be doing well at the moment. I've been to Palazzo and Carnivoro a few times each and always have been rammed.

Nooooooooooooooo, always excellent in there for a breakfast before an early kick off as well as being on the where to get a decent pint circuit. I'd blame Brexit but Tim Martin won't have it.

Re: Manny Rd Spoons up for sale
I was in there on a Friday night a few weeks back and it was really quiet. Blame it on the young uns who either don't go out anymore or drink at home till midnight then go out. The council allowing places like Mode and Blu Bar to stay open till 8 o clock in the morning have also helped kill off Burnley's nightlife.

It’s a commercial decision relative to the sales in their other pubs being the reason that all these pubs are up for sale and little else.

Their pubs have individual operating margins. They aren't measured across the JDW estate. It would be folly to do so because there are so many variables at play.

Property
During the period, we opened two new pubs and closed six, bringing the number open at the period end to 879. Following a review of our estate, in recent years, we placed around 100 pubs on the market, most of which have now been sold.

Loads of businesses struggling - scaremongering Remainers talking everything down and so people spending less.
On the business model how many closing are Spoons versus Lloyds? Not analysed the list.
Tim will steer a steady course through it.
