Luka Jovic
Posted on here a few times about this lad. I had emailed the club (and Boden) about him (and Marko Grujic) 3 or 4 years ago when he was just 17 at Red Star. I was convinced then and even more so now that he is going to be some talent. The club replied at the time that they weren't interested in scouting him.
A year later Jovic went to Benfica Grujic went on to Liverpool for £5m.
Grujic did well at Cardiff on loan and is now flying at Hertha Berlin.
Jovic is the one I was most excited by though. Still only 21 and has given Frankfurt the lead at Inter Milan tonight. And they look to be securing him permanently at the end of this season. 23 goals already this season.
One area of the club that really needs improving is overseas scouting. Hopefuly this new fella sorts it out. But hate to think how easily they could have followed up what was more than just a tip off for a player who I expect will move for millions to a top club after Frankfurt.
The year I emailed the club a detailed recommendation we signed Juke and Sordell

What you can’t predict is what would have happened to his “talent” had he been signed for a Premier League club. Chances are he’d be playing in the U23’s or on loan and not pulling up trees. He’s developed well because he’s not been signed by a Prem club IMO

To go from captain to being stripped of that and never playing again he’s upset somebody.

That's what happened with him at Benfica though. They loaned him out and he has flourished. If we HAD picked either of them up, they’d now be on loan or sold to Preston or some other championship club to try to kick start their career again after two years in our reserves...

I once recommended a young Kevin Keegan to Burnley (he played for Scunthorpe at the time.) I never even got a reply. He went on to sign for Liverpool.

Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly put a price of €46m on Luka Jovic's head. It's reported that Chelsea, Man City and Barcelona are all interested in him.

It's been the Burnley way! Miss out on a good prospect, wait till he signs for a club at a similar level to us or below for a song, then the following year decide he is a good player after all when his value has risen six-fold! Gayle, Roofe, Watkins spring to mind & even the self-confessed Tarkowski at Oldham......OK, so they had no money then!cricketfieldclarets wrote:Posted on here a few times about this lad. Like you, I too hope that Mike Rigg can improve the overseas scouting, we've been appalling at that so far & there are plenty of good prospects abroad.

I like this notion that a fan tells the club of a player and that automatically means the player would have joined us.

Tarks

Pope
JBG

Keane
Gray
Jones
Taylor
Lowton
Ings
Westwood
Wood
Barnes
Hendrick
Brady
Etc
Do you realise that list above effectively cost us nothing in transfer fees because of the profit we made on Ings, Tripps, Gray and Keane ?
Or that the remaining players are worth more than £100m ?
Or that these players have helped generate the best part of half a billion for the club ?
Which of these players did any of our fans pick out as good signings for the club before they came here ?
It’s hilarious to think that there are fans actually out there who think they could do better than the club has done because they have spotted a player who goes onto to bigger things.
Every single club has failings in the transfer market - it’s the overall position that counts and if anyone wants to name a club that has a transfer record equal to ours in the last 6 or 7 years then feel free...because there won’t be many.

With all this duff transfer activity how the hell have we managed to become the best financially managed club in the Premier League. I’m sure we were bottom half of the championship when the current management team in....
Never mind, if we all write to the club with our transfer recommendations and they buy them all we could be even better

With a 4th consecutive season in the top flight secured and having finished 7th last season (the highest the club has finished for over 40 years) I would say our transfer activity has been pretty successful seeing as only Dwight McNeil & Jay Rod are the only first team players of note in the last 10 year not to be brought to the club on a transfer.jrgbfc wrote:Might not be a bad idea if they did going off some of our signings in recent years.

Look at the author of who you are replying to. They have a history of whinging and looking for negativity in anything to do with the club, never going to mention the positives in transfer dealings

Finalised a deal from Benfica to Frankfurt, six weeks ago for around £10m due to a clause in the contract. Has now been sold for £52m to Real Madrid, Benfica got an additional £10.5m. Not a bad bit of business.
