1 good season, not played for 6 months and he's 3rd choice at Burnley. £10m is about right. If he was at another club and we were looking at him i wouldn't want my club risking too much money on him.

One season so good it saw him into a World Cup squad and stopped by injury not loss of form. Has to be worth more than £10m.Imploding Turtle wrote:1 good season, not played for 6 months and he's 3rd choice at Burnley. £10m is about right. Many would suggest that one good season is one more than Jordan Pickford who went for £30m

Has Pickford had a good season since his move to Everton?

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
That's a fair point, although Sunderland hardly had much of a defence. Our defence kept a lot of shots from even reaching Pope, and the quality of the players in front of him has to play a part when you're looking to spend millions on a goalkeeper with so little information on which to make a valuation.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Has Pickford had a good season since his move to Everton?
Given that it was only one season, he had a favourable situation with the players in front of him, and throw in the risk that it was a flash in the pan then i think £10m is fine.
And if anyone doesn't think that a players' value should be affected by their team mates then i refer you to the example of Michael Keane who in hindsight clearly benefited from playing along side players, and under coaches, who amplified his abilities.

Mike McGrath has come out with a lot of nonsense, BUT would he want to play second fiddle to Heaton next season?

I'm assuming Charlton will be getting a large slice of any fee anyway. But for the record I personally think he's the best of our 3 keepers and I'd be looking to hang on tbh.

That paper doesn’t even send reporters to games and post nonsense imo in match reports. So hopefully more nonsense. Pope should be the future and Hart should go. Pope should be battling Heaton and it only takes one injury.

The fact that he went to the World Cup with England puts his value way over £10m in today’s market.

Rather keep Pope then the other 2 to be honest. He'll only get better if he keeps on the upward trajectory he was on. But if he sees his future elsewhere then we should hold out for a decent amount.

Pickford went for £30 million...... Yes £30 million...Pope's price I'd say £30million is a fair price for a proven Premier league performer why do we always sell ourselves short?

No one is going to pay 30 million for Pope. We're then stuck with an unhappy member of the squad. Say for example the Arsenal rumours are true, that would be pretty much the perfect move for him. He's a Southern lad, and even if he goes as number 2 he'd get to play plenty of games in the cup competitions.

The comparison with Pickford ignores the fact that Pickford was in absolutely brilliant form with Sunderland, currently Pope has no form.
How Pickford has performed since his transfer to Everton is irrelevant.

£10m seems to be on the low side. £15-£20m is more realistic in today’s market.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
Had we sold him in the summer just gone (pre injury) then I reckon we could have been looking at about £20m-£25m for him.
Now after not playing for a year I think £10m-£15m is a good and fair price.
If you want to compare him to Pickford then the following should be taken into account,
Pickford had just had a very standout season in a poor team where he made some fantastic saves.
Nick Pope will likely have played played about 2-3 games in 12 months at the time of sale.
IF we sell him this summer then Nick Pope will be 27, at the time he was sold Pickford was 23.
Pickford can play the "sweeper keeper" role a lot of managers like at the moment Popes kicking makes Marlon Beresford look accurate.
I like Nick Pope and would love him to stay as I think he is close to being the best England have (very close match with Heaton) however anyone thinking we will get anywhere near £30m is going to be sadly disappointed.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
He'd get a lot more games as Arsenal's reserve keeper than staying as ours though, and earn more money. If he moves to one of the big boys he'll have to accept starting as a number 2.Steve1956 wrote:Playing in a cup game once every blue moon is not my idea of fun and it's probably not Pope's either...it's about playing EVERY game for your club.

I'm hoping he will be our number one next year. That the injury has had no lasting damage and he comes for every cross that comes in our box like old times.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
One of either Hart, Heaton or Pope is definitely going.
Heaton is the No 1 and would have to be injured or suffer a catastrophic loss of form that we've never seen from him to lose his place I reckon.
Pope is a brilliant keeper, and deserves to be No 1 somewhere.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
Nick Pope is our no.1 goalkeeper who can't get in the team due to an etiquette queue and a tragic signing for some behind-the-scenes reason. Worth £40M, we should sell Hart now and keep Pope.

Between about 10-15m is about right he’s only had 1 season in the prem . He’s a good keeper and for crosses he’s not far of the great Petr cech imo . He’s not however the ideal modern template for most “ big” club keepers who have been overpaying for keepers quite staggeringly recently .If we get above 15m that would be remarkable

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
Another who thinks it’s makes no sense selling Pope unless he’s desperate to go. Hart needs first team football.
Pope should be vying with Heaton next season again for me. Not that I would have a problem with Hart staying if one of the above want a move regardless.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
A few questions that need answering first from the managers, boards and players point of view.
1. Can we keep all 3 happy if all fit - No
2. Who will command the highest fee/profit - Pope
3. Will Pope want to be 2nd or 3rd choice here on the wages he is on - No
4. If we sell Pope for anywhere over 10-15m will the board think that's good business - Yes
5. Can we then promote a 3rd GK from within and/or buy one at a vastly reduce rate than the income received - Yes
6. Will selling Pope have a negative effect/dramatical change on the playing squad side in terms of quality or moral - No
He has to be either number 1 here, or leave IMO. I'd prefer the former, with once proven fully fit and back to his best rewarded with a new 5 year deal, to be our keeper for the long term regardless of division, and he can concentrate on settling back in and getting back to the form pre England call up.
Sadly I think we will think of the here and now, flog him, and 12-24 months later ( maximum ) be looking at finding a new number one.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
All fine in a perfect world, but Pope isn't realistically going to be that happy to be back up at a club like Burnley. I'd rather Hart went, but if someone wants Pope at a price that we're comfortable with, that probably makes more financial sense.elwaclaret wrote:Another who thinks it’s makes no sense selling Pope unless he’s desperate to go. In truth there's a reasonable possibility both Pope and Hart go this summer as neither will want to lay back up indefinitely. Heaton is first choice, and it's important to the club that Heaton remains first choice because he's such a key figure within the club. I think we've learned that this season.
How much Pope is worth depends on what someone is willing to pay for him, but I'd have thought £20 million was absolutely tops and £15 million probably more realistic.
Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
I think there is a good chance of Pope and Hart both not being here by next summer.
We should be looking to move Hart on - and hopefully he wants to go himself. He does not seem the type to want to sit on the bench and it’s an expensive reserve player for us.
Nick Pope - will be gutted for him to leave. But he will not want another year out / on the bench.
Think it would be the same situation if Tom was not in the nets - you can’t realistically keep 3 (or 2) keepers of that quality at the club when you are a team the size of Burnley.
As for Pope’s value we need to be asking for a minimum of £20m in my view. His stats and performances are all there for everyone to see....and in this market he is worth at least that.
We’ll need to go to the market and try and find the next Tom or Nick Pope - we have a great record in this department so no reason we can’t do it again.

Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
Not the best week to post this given last Sunday at Anfield but Tom is the best of the three for me. And we would have lost him in January had he not got back in the team when he did.
Re: Laughable valuation on Nick Pope amid claims we are ready to sell
I think Pope is going to be a world beating goalkeeper.
However, we have 3 keepers. 1 has filled in and has now been replaced.
One has regained his place in the first team and wants to stay. Biggest of fish in our pond.
The best of then will be snapped up sooner or later. Likely sooner. If we let the first two go, in favour of Pope, we would still lose Pope. Then we would have 0 out of 3 left.

I’m sure we don’t want to but if he wants to go like most players the club ends up granting their wishes.jdrobbo wrote:For me, he’s our best keeper. We’d be absolutely stupid to sell him.
It’s not stupid to cash in on a player who wants to go - it’s just reality.
No other club has our scenario really - these big clubs with experienced no2 keepers like Romero the keepers seem happy to be no 2 playing in the odd cup tie and picking up a bigger wage than when they were no 1 keepers at their old clubs. Pope’s situation is not like that. He needs to play and to put it quite coldly he “needs” a big pay day / contract whilst his stock is this high.
