Burnley let the Premiership down!
Adrian Durham implying Burnley are a disgrace in letting down the premiership by not taking the Europa league seriously. Way over the top as usual!

Radio is absolutely gash these days Particularly drive time.
The only time I listen to the radio is for live football and xs Manchester when I am driving from Leeds to Burnley and I pick it up for 30 miles or so.

Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
If you didn’t realise it was a “good cop bad cop” show to get listeners to call in then now you do. Durham does the bad cop better than Gough, so 90% of the time he does that role.
I listen whilst driving, amused at how riled he gets people.
On the Europe front, we had split loyalties that’s for sure, balanced more toward the Premier League. I imagine we were a couple more signings away from taking it more seriously. We had a poor draw really in terms of progress, all the way, but we got to play 3 good sides and there was no shame in losing to who we did.
I’ll add for perspective, our neighbours down the road have previously gone out of Europe to Trelleborgs (part timers), Genclerbirligi (who?), and Larissa (who?). They also took 10 games to win their first European tie!!!

Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
Steve Wright should have retired long ago. Desperate stuff. As for Durham he tries to be controversial and is annoying but often praises us. He does think we should have made more of a dusting Europe though.

Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
All the people knocking us for our European adventure might be reminded that an all British tie wasn't the easiest start early in pre-season; we beat the current Turkish leaders who are walking their league and have had a pretty good run in Europe's competitions these last few years, and got narrowly beat, after dominating the home game and a dodgy away game, against a giant in Europe and looking like Champions League participants next year in Olympiakos.
We had a bloody tough draw and did very well to get so close to the group stages, I don't think we downplayed it at all.

Couldnt care less about letting the league down. But we let ourselves and our fans down.
Our own board didnt want to be in it. Pathetic really.
Dyche would have done his CV the world of good and it would have been a pheonomenal experience for the fans.

Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
I was away with work and some jock said Burnley were everything that is wrong about the Premier League.....
I said “what,
You mean a club at the heart of its town....
Fans who support their local club.....
Predominantly British players....
A proper stadium, not some concrete bowl just off a motorway junction.....
Owned by local people, not some dodgy money laundering oligarc....
No debt.....
Never been in Administration.....
Pays sensible wages....
Invested it’s money back into the clubs infrastructure....
Built a state if the art training ground......
Got 3 England goalkeepers on our books....
Yeah right jock.........go back to your one horse race of a league in the wilderness.......”

Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
In Athens airport business lounge following our away leg v Olympiakos I was chatting to Barry Kilby - he was thrilled we were playing European competition matches after the doldrums we had been in. He and I agreed we had never even dreamed of seeing Burnley play in Europe ever again.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Not according to one board member. I heard it first hand last week. I think there may be a bit of revisionist history going on with your director, cc. If he had felt so strongly then shouldn't he have been leaning harder on SD or MG or the Recruitment Team to strengthen the squad ready for the Premier League season?
Re: Burnley let the Premier League down!
We had e great matches against Aberdeen and made some friends.
We beat the which looks like they are this season's Champions of Turkey.
We got conned in Athens - but what an experience - and we absolutely pounded the Greeks at Turf Moor but somehow did not score goals.
We could have gone on and done very well. Great pity.

Look at our options in midfield and have a think.
As predicted finishing 7th and not 8th has put us in peril.
Re: Burnley let the Premiership down!
Well we knew Defour and Brady were injured and JBG picked up a knock at the World Cup. In midfield we were pretty much down to the bare bones for the Europa League, hence Taylor having to play left midfield. Of course it didn't help Dyche choosing to field a makeshift back 4 in Athens either.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:What did we need?

It's a genuine question.
Central Midfield we've got Cork, Hendrick, Westwood and when he's fit Defour.
Wingers - Lennon, McNeil, JBG and Brady.
Vydra could probably drop deeper at a push, but it isn't preferable.
Squad size limited to 25, so whilst McNeil counts as a freebie due to age, who would you replace?
We also had to get in Hart due to injuries to Pope/Heaton.
Or do people completely forget the squad size in the PL??
