A spell in the Championship
Wouldn't do us any harm, we have an aging squad,it would be a good base to start again and get rid of the dead wood, and winning 30 in a season would be a welcome relief from scraping 10 wins,I'm not really arsed if we get relegated this season,if it's not this season it will be next with our recruitment policy.

Careful what you wish for. How can it be easier to regroup and rebuild from the Championship? No guarantee of getting back up....ever....

All that the Premier league gives us is money and we get to watch a few show ponies pouncing around feigning injury or diving for penalties .jdrobbo wrote:It’s a bloody brilliant division, BUT I don’t want to be a part of it!

I don't think relegation would be the end of the world. Can anyone honestly say it's enjoyable getting tubbed most weeks and simply aiming to scrape enough points to finish 17th?

Re: A spell in the Championship
Of course it would do us harm ffs. We rely on Premier League TV revenue. Can get rid of the dead wood at any level, more so in the Prem. Championship just makes it more likely that the likes of Cork retain their spots.
Let’s not start this nonsense. Staying up is imperative. One season would be ok as long as we use the TV revenue to smash that division. The standard has dropped.

Aye a spell in the championship isn’t bad. I’d quite enjoy it. What I wouldn’t enjoy is going down again and then having to sit through meetings with disgruntled fans and board members, whist the word “sleeping giant” gets banded about.
I remember those days and I don’t want to go back to them

Re: A spell in the Championship
One thing which would benefit a season or two in the championship would be youth development, assuming we can get it right.
I seriously believe one of our major problems (one which is costing us shedloads) is the cost of our backup players, those who rarely contribute but who draw big wages.

If it's anywhere near as good as emirates stadium it will be a good stadium. Old Trafford, Etihad and Wembley not a patch.
But, if you are happy going down to ewood on the cattle trucks that's fair enough.

I would not be confident about coming back up. We would have two make some shrewd signings and we know how good we are at in this area

If we do get relegated, and I have said all season it is a possibility following our qualification for Europe and total lack of interest in signing enough decent players to meet the challenge, I think we will be well placed to bounce back, since at the moment Dyche is doing a decent job with a squad of above average championship, and lower PL players.

I'm sure some Stoke, Swansea & Villa fans said they same thing but would now give anything to in the position we're in.
Your right though, we will go down eventually. Some here can't accept that and will blame anyone and everyone for the inevitable finally happening.

We'd lose in the playoffs cos Dyche is no good in a knockout competition.
Re: A spell in the Championship
The championship is an exciting competition, and if we end up back there this season so be it.
I just hope it we are to succumb to a relegation, that we get rid of this most painful of managers, and employ someone who can get us playing football on the deck. I'd happily see us hang around in mid-table for a couple of years developing an attractive style, than see us rugby our way to another promotion, as we did in 2016.

Re: A spell in the Championship
So much easier to stay in the PL than it is to get promoted from the Championship. I think we’re seriously kidding ourselves if we think we’re going to “smash” the division next year. There was still a lot of positive feeling around the club when we got relegated in 2015. That won’t be the case this time. Football is all about momentum and it’s hard to get it back when you have lost it.

If we are relegated, the major clubs (including the newly promoted clubs) will come in for McNeill, Heaton, Pope, Tarks, Barnes and a couple more of our better players.

If we manage to stay up will these players be less targeted? Or are you suggesting they will push for moves?
I've seen them, can't see much market here!

I dread relegation. We might not bounce back. A couple of seasons in the Championship would see us having to cut costs, both on and off the pitch.
Anyway, we're not down and we are certainly not out - it's all still to play for!

A drop into the Championship isn't the answer. Hopefully we can cling on in the PL this season by hook or by crook and then clear plenty out in the summer as too many aren't good enough.

Re: A spell in the Championship
I do agree/wonder about how much we can afford to splash gutting and rebuilding the squad, but if we stay in the PL and don't push the boat out seriously this summer we are clearly simply postponing the inevitable. We're far too average and for every exceptional performance like Spurs or Man U away, there's 4/5 very poor ones which underlines how many of this team aren't up to it in the PL. Plus, if we are still a PL team at least we can attract better. If we're down then we inevitably lower our sights considerably and join the massed ranks of the "also rans".boatshed bill wrote:Whist agreeing, I'm not sure we can afford much better.
