Puzzling since Spurs game
Puzzling since Spurs game
I’m really struggling to understand how the form has changed so dramatically since the Spurs game. We were looking almost certainties to stay up on that day and I think many thought we could get a result against any team between then and the end of the season bar perhaps Man City. We’d been so unlucky not to get the win at Watford, should have beaten Man Utd and were denied three points vs Saints. So very close to eight straight wins. We were all singing our praises of the team. So what has changed since then and can we now expect a change back to that type of form? Puzzling isn’t it? Can any of you explain it?

At Spurs we played at a tempo that is three gears ahead of recent showing. Newcastle? It was like we’d put lead weights on our feet!

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Basic difference is we've had 3 games out of four who have been able to force us to chase the game, and who have preyed on the fact that our attacking armoury is a bit one dimensional at the minute.
We need a bit of a review before we host Wolves.

The Cardiff game will be interesting in that respect as to whether Neil Warnock thinks a draw would be a good result for them, or whether they need to force the issue.claretspice wrote:Basic difference is we've had 3 games out of four who have been able to force us to chase the game, and who have preyed on the fact that our attacking armoury is a bit one dimensional at the minute.

The good old physical 442 worked for a spell, as when we brought it back it was something different, but it very quickly gets found at this level. Managers at this level are far too tactically astute.
Dyche gets done time and time again on this. Same old, same old.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Newcastle we were lacklustre, Palace we were simply outplayed 2nd half.
Against Liverpool we didn't play badly against a top quality side yet managed to gift them 3 goals, today we deserved a point but didn't have the rub of the green.

Opposition teams just like we do analyse every bit of a game and drill their players. How F in easy is it for them ie centre halves be solid head it clear ,midfielders make sure you are aggresive and you will win the second ball, forwards just run at the Burnley defence , right talk over go to the bookies and get an untraceable mate to put a grand on us.

Warnock will go for the win an get the win if we don't buck our ideas up or if Dyche doesn't sort things out.Spijed wrote:The Cardiff game will be interesting in that respect as to whether Neil Warnock thinks a draw would be a good result for them, or whether they need to force the issue.
Same ideas and same players not working try something different

Conceding 2-3-4-2 doesn’t help.
Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
and yet having the second worst defence in the league there have ben only 2 changes over the course of the season Heaton for Hart too late and Bardsley for Lowton Tarks and Mee seem untouchable and sometimes play like it lots of errors without consequence time for a change and a kick up the arse for at least one of them.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Newcastle - Benitez did his home work on us superbly and we were second best on the day so no complaints from me.
Screaming Alice - Only saw the highlights but conceding Three at home I assume the defending was too blame.
Liverpool - at least three mistakes out of the four goals conceded by the defense
Leicester - Again only going on the highlights but lousy defending.
To sum up our bad defending is loosing us games, remedy? we’ll replace Taylor with Ward for a start if just doing that works then fine if it doesn’t then come back to me

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
We are exactly where, if not above where our resources should have us. Yes there will be the freak wins vs a big team, Palace beat City, Southampton also beat spurs etc
Too many people on here cannot admit a scrap for 17th should be the norm for us, we laugh at Leicester & West Ham fans on 606 for expecting regular European places but assume mid table safety for ourselves.

Just wondering how many games you have seen this season, as you seem to keep cropping up with this ridiculous 'drop Taylor for Ward' idea.South West Claret. wrote:Newcastle - Benitez did his home work on us superbly and we were second best on the day so no complaints from me.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Taylor had a slow start to the season, but since Christmas he's been one of the more consistent players and one of the few that actually appears to give a ****

Not many games at all by the sound of it. Taylor has obviously been the only positive of late.Pimlico_Claret wrote:Just wondering how many games you have seen this season, as you seem to keep cropping up with this ridiculous 'drop Taylor for Ward' idea.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
We need all eleven to be on top of their game. Too many not doing this in the last few games.
Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Dyche has been made to look out of his depth the last few games by Benitez, Hodgson and now Rodgers.
Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
3 former Liverpool managers, not bad company to be made to look out of your depth. Could you imagine any of those 3 managing little Burnley?jrgbfc wrote:Dyche has been made to look out of his depth the last few games by Benitez, Hodgson and now Rodgers.
Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
To my mind Taylor is in the running for player of the year.
The idea to replace him with Ward could only come from someone who doesnt watch the games

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Liverpool game aside, all the others knew what everyone should know when playing against Burnley, let us have a lot of the ball. We’re hopeless when given loads of possession. Add some rank defending into the mix and you’ve got a perfect storm of shite for us.
I hope Cardiff don’t come here with points in front of us. We need them to come needing 3 points desperately.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Simple really - momentum and confidence. We had both against Spurs due to the previous 7 results. The following tired performance at Newcastle was really poor, and we were comfortably beaten by one of the weaker sides in the division who exposed our frailties again.
Confidence evapourated, mainly in our own defending, and we're back to expecting to concede whenever teams attack us. We look nervous again and take the wrong options as a result.
We know we'll always struggle to break down well organised defences, but we have to get back to being hard to beat ourselves. This may mean we'll have to take a dour 0-0 against Wolves, though at least we can hope they might have their minds on the semi final now.

Re: Puzzling since Spurs game
Clearly some of the negative posters who think Taylor is worth his place in "defence" have not played the game much or only think because the full back has improved his attacking play (which I agree), but not his defensive play which as a defender is his first duty is not worth resting to give Ward a chance of improving our left side "defending".
It's not puzzling to me why we have lost 4 on the bounce...11 goals conceded in 4 games with 2 defeats at home!
