Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
When Taylor went down in the box why wasn’t he shown a card if the referee thought it wasn’t a foul?

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Because the ref bottled out of making any kind of decision whatsoever.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Was mentioned around where I stand but was down the other end- did he appeal for the penalty?
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Because booking him would have highlighted that he guessed.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Officially its a natural coming together not every contact is a foul
The trueth having sent of a player, booked another for taking of his shirt to commemorate a dead person he bottled it. A penalty then would have more than likely been decisive.
He spent a long time talking to taylor at a corner afterwards explaining his decision.
He also spent a bit of time telling Maddison to use his head after he wasted time at a throw in.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
yes...if deemed a fair challenge Taylor should have been booked!Loyalclaret wrote:Was mentioned around where I stand but was down the other end- did he appeal for the penalty?
actually Clarets should have been awarded a penalty!
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
It was still decisive because it cost us 3 points.steve1264b wrote:Officially its a natural coming together not every contact is a foul

Morgans an Evans handballs could easily have been given too
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
the lino on the Bob Lord has a lot to answer for, as from my viewpoint (which is a similar angle to his) you could definitely tell there was contact and he had been clipped.
Watching the handball on motd, and it was very similar to the Southampton game. Why one is given and the other not, who knows? There have been a lot of softer handballs given by VAR in the last month.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
I think the referee didn’t see whether there was contact or not so rightly gave a goal kick without a booking. It was the wrong decision of course, but if the ref hasn’t seen the contact, and it was minimal, then he can’t give it.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
To be fair to the ref it would have been a very soft one to give, if Taylor had stayed on his feet he would have been clean through with an easy square ball for a near guaranteed goal (if anyone was running in).

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
The refknew damn well it was a penalty but had already created enough of a talking point by dismissing, correctly, Maguire. He bottled it.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
The sad thing is When VAR comes to the Premier League next season, it’s likely we won’t be there to benefit. Typical.
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
The rule is: If Burnley have a man advantage, owing to referee having no alternative, nothing else shall be awarded, throughout the match.
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
A soft one to give? Put that fishing rod away mate. 2nd clearest pen all season behind the Barnes one.Giftonsnoidea wrote:To be fair to the ref it would have been a very soft one to give, if Taylor had stayed on his feet he would have been clean through with an easy square ball for a near guaranteed goal (if anyone was running in).

With VAR, this season, we’d be top ten.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
The challenge knocked Taylor off his feet. No dive. Ref decided no foul either. No card required. Have to say I thought it was a penalty at the time. Haven’t seen any tv pictures.
Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Oliver had an absolutely perfect view - he didn't need the help of his linesman...and wasn't going to get it either as I have noticed this year more than ever the linesmen not helping the referees with any big decisions.
To me he definitely bottled the decision because he had already made one big call in the game with the sending off.
If it would have transpired after the game that there had been no touch and it was a dive he probably thought he would have been in for more criticism than not giving the penalty.
For all we know Rogers could have already been to have a word with Oliver questioning the sending off and that would also have influenced him. Clearly Dyche`s after match complaints of us not getting penalties this season have had zero influence on referees but we know for a fact that big managers and big teams can definitely influence referees decisions....look what happened to referees who got decisions wrong in Arsenal and United games whilst Wenger and SAF were there....it often meant they were demoted or did not get any future United or Arsenal games.
Compare our clear penalty yesterday to the Sterling dive or the Mane ridiculously exaggerated fall...no co-incidence that the big teams got those decisions.

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
I see that on Skys ref watch they discussed Maddisons booking, sad but correct, and Maguires red card, sad but correct, but never found the time for Taylors pen. appeal.

I think the exaggerated fall from Taylor looked suspect especially with so little contact, I’m not fishing far from it, no point trying to cheat just play the game properly and put the ball in the net, no complaints thenEyres_11 wrote:A soft one to give? Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
If your pushing off/standing foot is nudged when you are at speed there is no other way to go down. Absolutely natural fall. Doesn't take much contact to stop you going through. Ndidi was just late with the tackleGiftonsnoidea wrote:I think the exaggerated fall from Taylor looked suspect especially with so little contact, I’m not fishing far from it, no point trying to cheat just play the game properly and put the ball in the net, no complaints then

[quote="steve1264b"]Officially its a natural coming together not every contact is a foul
The trueth having sent of a player, booked another for taking of his shirt to commemorate a dead person he bottled it. A penalty then would have more than likely been decisive.

He also spent a bit of time telling Maddison to use his head after he wasted time at a throw in.
'Natural coming together'. What's that?

Taylor took the ball passed him and the player caught him - there was clear contact and at the pace and angle Taylor was running the fall was absolutely natural. How can it be a coming together ? Taylor had the ball...their player didn’t. Taylor didn’t run into him.
Look at the way Mane or Sterling “fell” over the weekend if you want to see unnatural falls - both got penalties.
Pathetic refereeing - he can try and explain for as long as he wants....he was wrong.

Surely McGuires Red card were a natural coming together

Re: Why wasn’t Taylor booked?
Think Oliver admitted there was contact so there would be absolutely no need to book Taylor in that case. Quite why he thought the challenge was fair I don't know but Dermot Gallagher said yesterday that he felt the contact was minimal and not enough to give a penalty.claretblue wrote:yes...if deemed a fair challenge Taylor should have been booked!
