London railway station could be renamed Tottenham Hotspur

I knew someone who thought they already had. As a young lad in the sixties he decided to go to Spurs to watch Burnley and, looking at the tube map, saw Tottenham Court Road. That's where he went but he couldn't find the ground anywhere.

Not surprised you got lost Hipper. I think if you check the etymological origin of the name Tottenham, as in the borough, and the etymological origin, as in Tottenham Court Road, you will find they are actually two totally different Tottenhams. Not a lot of people know that.

"The U-turn comes after meetings between Tottenham, TfL and London mayoral officials where the club’s executive director, Donna Cullen, pressed its case. She stated that the name change was critical to realising a £250m commercial strategy revolving around selling stadium naming rights to a major partner and that the club did not want the renaming to be treated as a commercial deal."
How does that make sense? She says this is crucial to Tottenham's commercial deal, so it shouldn't be a commercial deal?

I'm sure someone could have a little bit of fun selling off all the station names to the highest bidder.
Haven't Fulham already got naming rights for the tube station nearest to Chelsea's ground, Fulham Broadway?

It seems a sensible enough move if Spuds stump up the cost of all the map changes etc caused by a name change (+ a bit more for the hassle). Arsenal previously managed to get a change to Highbury's nearest station (as the linked Graun article explains) in 1932 - prior to which Arsenal station was called Gillespie Road station.
I look forward to visiting the new ground next season (fingers crossed) though, as usual, I'll be walking up from Seven Sisters.

To avoid confusion and as a tribute to Ozzie Ardiles it could be named 'Tottingham'...

What she means is that the renaming is critical to Tottenham's commercial strategy but she doesn't think TfL should charge the club for the renaming.dsr wrote:"The U-turn comes after meetings between Tottenham, TfL and London mayoral officials where the club’s executive director, Donna Cullen, pressed its case. Paddy Power had it right at Cheltenham last week.
In order to commemorate sporting events where the heroes always came second third or fourth they refunded all win bets on those horses
They named it the Tottenham Hotspur bet

to many it is a further corporatisation of public space and the erosion of history
