feminism

Post by pushpinpussy » Wed Mar 20, 2019 11:40 am

The idea that society oppresses women is laughable. Feminism is weak women using their gender as a reason for being weak.

85% of homeless are men
76% of suicides are men
70% of murder victims are men
92% of deaths in the workplace are men
7% of men get custody after a divorce
97% of war deaths are men

Thing is though....
When things (stats) look bad for men- it's their own fault
When stats look bad for women - it's men's fault

I mean, women couldn't vote less than 100 years ago. Who's fault was that? Men.

Regardless of what the stats say, men have and still do oppress women.

good for you mate, I really mean that. I'm one of the 93%, rarely see my kids now and it kills me - their choice, not mine (their aged 19 and nearly 14 now). With hindsight I'd have fought much more, but at the time I was having a breakdown as a result of the marriage disintegrating and I genuinely thought it would be better for the kids to stay with their mother, only now I can see how things would have been different and possibly better for them had they been with me for the longer term.

So, like I said, good for you.

I think bringing up 100 years ago is a bit pointless really. How far do you go back if we allow that? We can only go off now, today. 100 years ago millions of MEN on both sides died in an absolutely pointless war, a needless cull of human life. 60 years ago business men (and women) still had 2 votes in an election if they lived in a different constituency to their business. 50 years ago and beyond you could be called up to fight for your country at 18 but you couldn't vote for the government that sent you to war until you were 21 - old enough to die for your country but not old enough to vote. History is full of inequalities everywhere. It's now that counts. If women were abused years ago that was wholly wrong but most of those wrongs have been righted and it's not the fault of men today if women suffered in the past.
The problem is we now have political correctness, the bast**d son of positive discrimantion. ANY discrimination is wrong because it gives an unfair advantage, ask any employer who now feels under pressure to offer a female candidate a job (or someone from an ethnic minority or disabled) when they may not actually be the strongest candidate because of the fear of being taken (often successfully) to a tribunal. I worked for a few years in employment law and trust me, anyone who still thinks women are disadvantaged when it comes to jobs is massively mistaken.

Having said all that there is still a gap in the pay structure of many companies and that is slowly (too slowly) being addressed.

It isn't opression it is calculated control of order and society. We can't have Jo Brands of this world running around making the big decisions. Not when we have the level headed leaders of the world like Trump , Putin and Kim to name a few of the calmer ones, guiding us into a bright future.

You do wonder why the vast majority of “ truly out there “ feminists are rough as cheap mince .

The thing is,powerful women are at the very mild end of feminism and fully understand that you have to work very hard and be totally driven to get into high ranking roles whatever sex you are .

Until women are born without a womb you’ll find their life needs differ somewhat .I’m sure a few wilted lettuce types on here will beg to differ .

Must be hard. Whilst my two frequently drive me up the wall i wouldn't have it any other way. They rarely see their mother (again their choice mostly)
I was struggling mentally big time when the divorce happened and whilst she was in a poor place too I had to put the kids as my only priority.

Great thing is they are both flying (academicallly) at school and seem settled and confident. Not bad when the 14 yo girl has started to take on the challenge of being a football referee.

Keep your chin up and work hard on your relationship with the kids. It's time well spent

It's actually one of my favourite quotes Boss, along with 'I disagree with everything that man says but I would die fighting for his right to say it (or variations of same)'. This has been said by so many people in the past no-one seems certain who said it first but the best candidate seems to be Voltaire I think.

Speaking of Mark Twain one of his I like is about the fear of death: 'I didn't miss being alive for billions of years before I was born, I don't think I'll miss it much after I'm gone'.

I think so yes - picked up and used I think by Paul Mcartney after the Abbey Road album depicted him in a white suit and no shoes, leading some numpty to start the rumour that it was because he was dead. That was an odd assumption.

On the subject of "Lies, damn lies and statistics"....

Many, many years ago, I did a BSc in Statistics and one of the year1 recommended books was a Pelican entitled "How to Lie with Statistics" I'm not sure if this book is still in print but when I later worked for various big consumer goods companies, the tricks outlined therein were a very good basis for helping to pull apart competitor claims and helping my own company be "economical with the truth" in its own claims.

I was looking at jobs this week and one of them stated they were particularly encouraging female applicants - seriously wtf? It is a 'normal' job in which there would be no reason that a female would be better suited. The advert might have well said 'don't bother applying if you have a penis'. Imagine the outrage if an advert encouraged male applicants (or even white male working class, non-disabled ones)

Sometimes a look in the direction of the bizarre can make you laugh. I sometimes think in this world of political correctness we have somehow forgotten how to laugh, then along comes a thread like this. It has been a pleasure and a priviledge and an honour to have been part of something that, as occasionally happens, puts two glorious fingers up to the whole PC movement. We all have a right to be here and we all have a right to live and be free and work as we please but more than that we all have a right to be happy, to laugh, and to poke fun at whatever the hell we like without someone saying 'you can't say that, it's not appropriate'. No harm was done, nobody died, nobody got hurt or injured, it's just people speaking their mind and making fun of those who are so up their own backsides they can hardly breathe.

Here endeth the first lesson - have a nice day everyone - whatever your gender or sexual orientation, religion, colour or beliefs or physical abilities, I wish you all a very happy and healthy day.

I don't give a sh!t mate - say what you like about me - it's words. Get over your self. You need to remove that set of blinkers that makes you so focussed on the unimportant bud. Life is tough and there are many worse things in it than being called names or being criticised. Trust me, there is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, that you can say to me on here that would in anyway offend me or upset me, your opinion is what it is but it is not the most important thing in the world, you need to realise this.

Listen IT, you seem to have a reputation on this forum for being a bit of a d!ck but I don't think like that and at least I give you the time of day because I'm sure you are a decent enough chap, but you really need to stop getting prissy about things that are not, in the overall scheme of things, important.

My life over the last couple of years and for various reasons has not been the best - things beyond my control, things I can do nothing about have made it a tad sh!tty but it has made me focus on what is and is not important, and what is NOT important is people either getting 'offended' by words or, worse still, getting offended on other peoples behalf. Chill out IT and stop getting so angry about things you can't influence, you'll feel a whole lot better.

You know where I am if you need to talk.....sensibly.

Fascinating. So you get upset because you think you should have the right to not be criticised. I laugh at that pathetic idea. And somehow i'm the one who's focusing on the unimportant.

You're the one who spent 4 paragraphs telling me that your initial stupid opinion wasn't important. Just remember that.

You're the one who spent 4 paragraphs telling me that your initial stupid opinion wasn't important. Just remember that.

Hilarious.

So one idiot complains about having to endure criticism and mockery fo his stupid opinions.
And another idiot is accusing ME of being the one who is "imposing", without seeing any irony whatsoever in defending someone who wants to deny others their right to criticise by accusing the other person of being "imposing".

Yes, i'm definitely a dick. But i'd much rather be a dick than a moron.

But this and the Sam Smith thread do show one thing, a lot of men are struggling with dealing with changes that really are not big a deal if you think about it.
Didnt see that thread. Can't comment on it.

No issues with men and women being equals. As it should be.
But equality should go both ways

I've actually replied to this once but for whatever reason it's disappeared (or wasn't there in the first place  ).
My orignal reply was roughly this:
Show me, IT, where I somehow demanded the right not to be criticised. What a bizarre statement considering I spent most of the time saying the complete opposite. I do wonder if your skim reading is up to scratch or if you read things and completely disregard what has actually been written. To repeat (not verbatim as I can't be bothered to copy and paste): I don't give a sh!t what people say about me on here.....it's just words.....I will not be in any way offended or upset about anything anyone says about me.....etc etc etc . You've even contradicted yourself by accusing me, in the same post, of demanding the right not to be criticised AND spending 4 paragraphs telling you that my initial stupid opinion wasn't important'. Which is it IT? Make your mind up bud, do I demand that people don't criticise me or do I think that even my own opinion is unimportant? There is reading between the lines then there is not reading the bloody lines at all then making it up as you go along.

I can accept that for whatever reason things confuse you but how can you get it so spectacularly wrong? By the way people who call other people stupid usually do so because they have completely run out of logical argument.

Please feel free to reply but try to do so with less anger, more logic and a modicum of common sense as I can't be bothered replying to drivel.

some interesting opinions for what they are worth, but a lot of you seem to believe 100% that IT is a male, I for one am not sure having read many of his posts. So if anyone actually wants to admit to knowing IT or having met, pray do tell as I would like to know for sure, but I do have a theory, or if you like a guess as to his gender.

am also not sure most of you actually understand feminism in reality and like many other posts on a host of subject pick the snippets you don't like, many of which I totally agree with to, PC has like many other things that happen in society, allowed the pendulum to swing to far in the other direction.

Some statements are very much the same as I think, with the main one being we need to be able to laugh at ourselves as well as others, when someone laughs at us for doing something silly we need to recognize this and laugh with them.

Yet at the end of the day there are still to many of you in the "get my dinner on the table when I am home from work love", it's part of your job description, plus I hope the ironing is done as I want this or the other tonight/tomorrow. There has to be a large middle ground the majority of us can agree on and leave the morons at the far end of the spectrum to criticize what male chauvinists & what rabid feminists want/demand.

Surely everyone regardless can admit that regardless of gender if you do the same job you should get the same pay, I don't believe women, or race for that matter should be given jobs as quotas need to be met, we all know it happens, but I do believe regardless people should be given a chance to prove themselves and be acknowledge accordingly.
