Czech Republic - Vydra - "I can taunt them..."
Yes, I know there's another post on Vydra with the Czech team - but that one's headed Vydra criticising Dyche….
Today's The Times:
Czech Republic see Harry Maguire as England’s weak link
Harry Maguire has been targeted as a potential weak link by the Czech Republic, who are planning a physical approach in an attempt to disrupt England’s rhythm.
Matej Vydra, the 26-year-old Burnley striker, raised the stakes before tomorrow’s Euro 2020 qualifying game at Wembley by telling his Czech team-mates that they should not be afraid to “kick” England.
Vydra offered an acerbic critique of Maguire, the Leicester City centre back, who was sent off after only four minutes of his club’s Premier League game away to Burnley last Saturday, while hailing England’s attack.
“[Harry] Kane is top, [Marcus] Rashford as well, [Raheem] Sterling is in great form,” Vydra said. “The attack is very strong. And defence . . . I don’t say it’s not strong as well, but it’s not as strong as the attack.”
Maguire was sent off for bringing down Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Vydra said that Burnley had discussed in the build-up about playing in behind the centre back to expose his limitations.
“For example, Maguire,” Vydra said. “We talked about him before we played against Leicester. In some moments it seems he doesn’t know what’s happening behind him, that’s why he got a red card against Burnley.”
Maguire, who then watched Leicester defy their numerical disadvantage to win 2-1 with a late Wes Morgan goal in a game in which Vydra was a late substitute, will be the manager Gareth Southgate’s main centre back at Wembley.
John Stones, the Manchester City defender, pulled out of the squad due to injury and, with Liverpool’s Joe Gomez also absent, Maguire is set to be partnered by Everton’s Michael Keane or James Tarkowski, a team-mate of Vydra at Burnley.
Southgate has privately expressed concern that England do not have an alternative to Stones who can build attacks out of defence, but the Czechs want to disrupt the hosts at source.
“They [England] would like to hold the ball so we have to be close to them,” Vydra said. “Don’t be afraid to kick them three or four times — then they may change the plan and play one or two touches.”
The chance to spearhead his country’s attack will appeal to the forward who has been used sparingly by Sean Dyche at Turf Moor. Vydra, who has 24 caps, looked set to leave on loan in January, five months after arriving from Derby County, but the manager blocked his departure and said he needed to smile more in training.
“I had six offers to go on loan, but the manager told me that he needs me because I’m a different type than the other strikers,” Vydra, who has not started since the 5-0 FA Cup defeat by Manchester City in January, said.
“He told me that I’m doing OK, but suddenly he said I’m not smiling enough during training. It’s hard for me. I’m not like Brazilians, smiling all the time. If I’m not playing, maybe it’s noticeable that I’m frustrated.”
With his club-mates Tarkowski and goalkeeper Tom Heaton in the England squad, Vydra has extra incentive to stop the home side’s momentum.
“We talked about the game and I hope we’ll get a good result,” he said. “If so, I can taunt them for a long time.”

What do we think?
If these quotes are accurate, is Matej Vydra "at one" with his Burnley team mates? It doesn't sound as though he's sung his song. It sounds more like he will be taking a dip in the Calder.

I feel for the guy not getting much of a chance but these recent interviews have shed light on his character which could be questionable, and a reason why he’s not featuring much.

That's the link to the story on sky. It says vydra has 3 burnley team mates in the England squad. Heaton tarks and Michael Keane.

There are England players in our squad, he clearly means he can 'rib' them if they beat England. Nothing sinister about it.

The bloke obviously feels he's been sold a pup. None of us know what goes on when a player is signed. Clearly, nobody is offered a guarantee that they'll play all the time but maybe there was discussion about styles of play or flexibility in set-up when things aren't working and, if so, those haven't happened. He's ended up at a club which doesn't seem to have a way of playing that allows him much game time.

I don’t think the England players will be watching too many Vydra videos.
Re: Czech Republic - Vydra - "I can taunt them..."
Ermmmm where does it say Keane is a Burnley Team m8?????Boll ewood wrote:That's the link to the story on sky. It says vydra has 3 burnley team mates in the England squad. Heaton tarks and Michael Keane.
"Two of Vydra's Burnley team-mates are in England's squad - Tom Heaton and James Tarkowksi - while former Burnley centre-back Michael Keane is a potential partner for Maguire"
The article distinctly says "former Burnley CB" not team m8
Re: Czech Republic - Vydra - "I can taunt them..."
The one thing you can say with any certainty about England's players, such as Maguire & Pickford, is that they aren't even close to being world class.
Sterling and Kane aside, the only thing getting to the semi finals was elevate levels of delusion to a whole new level.

And yet we didn't think about getting in behind Morgan (or thought that Crouch was the best player to do it?).

Re: Czech Republic - Vydra - "I can taunt them..."
Not surprised he sees Maguire as a weak link. Watched from the bench as he got sent off then managed a whole two minutes on the pitch as we failed to hold on to a 1-1 draw against 10 men.
Lol.

Wood was continually going in behind, he just wasn’t good enough to beat the offside trap. I don’t have a problem with what Vydra is saying, and they are obviously trying to rattle England, and rightly so.

Ironic then that both Dyche and the Chairman are frequently quoted in the press stating that Burnley have to do a huge amount of background work on each prospective signing to ensure the player is "a fit" both on and off the pitch.thatdberight wrote:The bloke obviously feels he's been sold a pup. The club now finds itself sleep walking into a relegation situation with Cardiff breathing down our necks, struggling for form, struggling to keep clean sheets and desperate to score goals whilst one of our most expensive signings ever, and a former Championship leading scorer is forced to sit out game after game with only pointless (there is a pun in there), cameo appearances in the 88th minute. Absolutely crazy!!

The most complete performance I've seen from England was the 2-1 win vs Croatia last November. But overall under Southgate we've not had it better in 40+ years. I actually enjoy watching England play now.Buxtonclaret wrote:They've played some really good stuff tonight.

England team is quality to watch. Not even our best side out there tonight, play football like standard Premier League fixture. So much faster and penetrative than your usual international side.
Been saying it for a while, but this is the best England side in a long time.
As for Vydra, he played well despite his limited time for a vastly inferior side. Food for thought.

He was pretty neat and tidy but missed a pretty decent chance. However maybe he doesn't fit in at Burnley because of his gob. His remarks about Maguire and Englands defence were shown to be misjudged as they had him and the Czech team all night.

Vydra showed he can offer something different... but I think most of us already realize it, that is what is making it so frustrating when things are just not working.
