Why don’t you just live out in the sea and come landing once in while?

Surely that is one of the most boring river cruises you can have on the continent?

I lived there for 6 years, did I miss something?

There's something wrong about watching Burnley v Sunderland with three Geordies in a themed Irish pub in Eindhoven, and them Geordies getting more upset than me that we got beat. :)

Done about 80 cruises - some on the bigger ships and some on the smaller ones. Love Norway and was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights for 6 nights in a row on a Hurtigruten ship last year. Also cruised the Med, Caribbean and done a few transatlantic ones too. Great holidays with plenty of things to do or if you want peace and quiet there are enough places onboard where you can hide away.

Have done a few. Before Mrs McL died, we travelled that way, a lot, so were together and uninterrupted by daily stuff.

Have a 2 week trip in June. Med islands and Adriatic, with Thomson. Not that they are called that any more!

They are the friendliest, consistently.

How anyone could see anything remotely enjoyable about going on a Cruise in the North Sea in March is beyond me.

Done a couple with the in laws to celebrate wedding anniversaries (40 and 50, them obviously!)

Not for us, but you can't beat the different port each day and its a good way to see fantastic places.

But all I would say that if you go P & O, and after you leave the last port for home, they have a party that would have every single Brexiteer on here jizzing in their pants.

Used to work for a freight ferry company UK-Ire, and have crossed the Irish Sea in a Force 10 more than once. Its actually quite good fun but it does take a lot of getting used to.

Went a lot on this ship actually, which famously ran aground at Blackpool a few years back

Travelled numerous times on the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry in rough seas and enjoyed it, but I don't call it a cruise.

As the article itself points out, three quarters of the passenger deaths at sea were on a ferry in the Phillippines. That has no impact n the likelihood of a cruise ship sinking. It's a bit like hearing of a plane crash on an African airline - it doesn't mean that your Transatlantic flight suddenly becomes more dangerous, because the UK / US / Western nations airlines are much better funded.

One of my favourite works at last year's R.A. Summer Exhibition was Paul Thirkell's print of a cruise liner in trouble, as a metaphor for humanity and the abyss. I've put a link to his website, the picture is in the middle to look at.

There's a lot of people who have sailed as passengers on cruise liners posting on here. How many have actually worked on the cruise liners? Just interested.

Not me personally Capt but my daughter worked as a fitness instructor on RCCL for 2 years, she had a wonderful time and travelled the world, got well paid too. Being able to get a family discount on a couple of cruises was a bonus for me too :P

I have depped in a few bands and have completed two world cruises and also travelled as a passenger on many cruises since 1989.

My mate took one to the northern lights a few years ago, he said the food was excellent. The ship had a sauna and a external dunk pool, with a bar on hand

Poor owd buggers dead now though. The sea sick and cold killed him
