It is interesting and a very definite PR response but is actually not saying too much - the stats thing is nothing new - realising we have to look past the Championship is the single biggest thing in there

The more I hear from Rigg the more worried I become.

My kids could tell you a better system of scouting just by playing FIFA career mode.
They have a massive stats base for younger players and every next big thing has been identified by them well in advance.

So much seems obvious from the outside - but rarely on the inside - take this - I thought this was obvious - but apparently not

I would say Leicester and more recently Brentford are the models most are looking at

Burbling, waffling management-speak. Paradigms, metrics blah blah.
No wonder he thinks the world of SD. I bet they get on like a house on fire.
I'm guessing here but I'll bet he's on a pretty hefty wedge.
He's been here since the autumn, had one transfer window and what has
been the net result so far? We let Vokes go and get Peter Podcast.
Most employers I've ever come across would want something tangible after 6 months.
The next transfer window had better be a good 'un.
A realistic yardstick is: "Don't measure input, measure output."
That works for all employees, from top to bottom.

Forget the guff, let's see what actually improves.

Let's worry about Mike Rigg and his strategies once we have (if we do) pulled ourselves out of the $hit this season.

We like to pump these articles/interviews out every now and again when the transfer window is safely closed.

Let’s hope our previous mistakes don’t cost us in March and we’ll see an improvement by August.

Actions speak louder than words.

It is all very money ball - and the most recognised two in the English game for this are Brentford and Brighton - not least because of their owners backgrounds. I suspect we have been at this for some time (as have most clubs in the top 2 leagues) but the focus is now widening

Brighton's window last summer was very interesting one by potential for development and not for the immediate benefit of the 1st team

My thoughts too. Just talking for the sake of it, without actually saying anything meaningful.

The proof will be in the pudding, and you can’t blame us for being sceptical.

Interesting read and having put that out. Lots of the usual waffle for me. Crouch is a great start Mr Rigg, of course I already have your answer, " that was a deal I wasn't involved with'. We've been starved of local talent so you've a lot of work to do on that front, look at Leeds, they she'll em out like peas. Anyway, everybody deserves a chance, you'll be judged on recruitment so we're all expecting a busy summer. We don't want to hear anymore rolled out excuses, season after season. It's about delivery now.

Talks a good game this man. Not sure how having an enormous database on players from 22 different leagues and their performance data could be described as "worrying" ffs

I don't think there is anything new really coming out, the local press have had no one to interview this week with the international break so went to Rigg. It's much of what he said when he first came in to be honest.

When I was a kid I used to collect and play Top Trumps. I had all the important information on many fantastic cars, planes, motorbikes etc. I just couldn't afford any of them. So I resigned myself to just looking at the pictures and dreaming.

He's talking a good game there (as they say) and actually it's very interesting and very positive in terms of the future, but for anything to really come of of any of it we simply HAVE to retain our PL status this season. If we slip into the Championship much of this becomes expensive and unnecessary, bearing in mind we won't be able to target or attract the same caliber of players.

The shadow of the infamous 'Deloitte Report' hangs heavily over this press release. And we all know how that ended.

Another worrying part of all this for me is that it has taken until the end of the 4th out of the last 5 seasons in the Premier League to realize that our recruitment has been poor. Chris Boden usually produces a list that includes Ings, Trippier, Mee and a few others as examples of where we have got it right, conveniently overlooking the fact that they were Eddie Howe signings. I know we have had some success with Heaton, Keane and Gray but there has been a long list of what you could class as less successful signings.

Hennings
Vossen
Sordell
Reid
Walters
Vydra
Ulvestadt
Long(Chris)
Defour
Bamford
Flanagan
Jutkiewicz
Wells
Lennon

That's a hell of a lot of poor signings.

Especially as two of those three were gone and the other barely played in the season we finished seventh.

Herts I think like most things there is a balance - of those 2 possibly 3 cost significant money and absolutely no one gets them all right

Bardsley, Barnes, Brady, Cork, Hendrick, Gray, JBG, Keane, Lowton, Pope, Tarks, Taylor, Ward, Westwood, Wood have proven value for money despite the thoughts of the more vocal elements on here

There is still time for Gibson and possibly Vydra to prove their worh to us as well

There is a stumbling block in the way of that. Neither of them get any further than either sat on the bench or a cameo run in the 88th minute when the game is lost. The only way that we will see whether they are of any use will be if there is an injury crisis.

No player should assume they should be coming into a squad to start as of right - Gibson missed out as much for his early season injuries as for SD staying loyal to Mee - we also know that Mee struggles to play a full season with his shin splint issue and we all knew needed a left sided CB who can step up so he remains a good buy in my eyes.

Vydra seems to make his own complications recent interviews suggest

Interesting that you think our recruitment has been poor. I wonder, therefore, if you could explain how a club our size has managed these recent seasons in the Premier League with such poor recruitment I'd be very grateful. You seem to suggest only three good signings under Dyche (no mention of Taylor, Tarkowski, Lowton, Bardsley and countless others).

You have, however, managed to find 14 poor signings in six and a half years, some of which I'll dispute while mentioning the successes as being Mee, Trippier and Ings (Howe signings). I know you are constantly over critical of Dyche but, to add a bit of fairness, I give you the following, all signed by Howe.

Bartley
Richards
Stewart
Delfouneso
Duffy
O'Neill
Mills
Porter
McQuoid
Lafferty
Stock
Hines

That's one hell of a lot of poor signings in 20 months.

I think we can all agree on one thing and that is we have to produce some better signings. If we can stay up we'll probably never have a better opportunity with Rigg, can he deliver? time will tell.

Two wins out of the next three games and Rigg will be a hero on here. As will Dyche. And Heaton. And Tarks. And Hendrick. And Crouch. And all the other "deadlegs" that folk slag off when we hit a bad patch.

Such a fantastic stats base on "every next big thing" that at the start of the season they had Dwight McNeil having a potential of 76 out of 100 and a current ability of 62. For context, Luke Thomas (me neither) on loan from Derby County to Coventry had 80 potential and a current ability of 62.

They know their stuff, clearly.

Someone who I respect told me the higher the monkey goes up the tree the more he shows his arse

The last 3-4 guys employed to recruit new players have been pretty disastrous. Much prefer someone who establishes himself by what he achieves than someone who use a national newspaper to justify his position.

Got to say Cotterill & Stan put the "wow" factor in some of the transfers they pulled off at a time when we were skint

They know their stuff, clearly.
What would you of rated McNeil at the start of the season?

Nobody in their wildest dreams could of predicted what a good season he would have, even if he was fortunate to get his chance through injuries.

I don't recall many raving about him on here who watch the U23s etc.

I wouldn't have predicted it. But I also didn't make the claim that FIFA, a computer game, has already got the data/stats on "every next big thing" as a stick to beat Burnley's recruitment strategy.

You made the stupid statement, I pointed out how stupid it was by using a very simple example.

I'm not sure Fifa scouts will regard it as a failure.

We all think hes great, but in the grand scheme of things he's playing for a side that's a very good chance of getting relegated and scored twice with 4 assists in the season.
Not exactly 30m just yet or linked to the big clubs Fifa are bothered about.
