Saw the Walker Brothers live in Blackpool ABC theatre about 1965. Roy Orbison was on the same bill: so I saw/heard two incredible voices/performers on the same night. I bought most of his albums in his early solo days, where he sang some incredible songs such as Jacky, Mathilde as well as some great self-penned songs.
He went very avant grade in his later career, though there were some good tracks on albums like Tilt. Great voice, great performer, RIP.

Sad news indeed, a very big player on the British music scene back then..a fantastic baritone, what a great singing voice really, no one like him.... top drawer. A very talented man.

The BBC this morning - 'Scott Walker, one of the most enigmatic and influential figures in rock history, has died at the age of 76'.

They weren't brothers. For a few years in the late 1960's, early seventies they rivalled the Beatles for popularity. They didn't last long, Scott Walker was frustrated by the music business and the demands of record companies to keep churning out the same £££££ stuff.
[they re-united once].

They broke up, he went solo and had a pretty decent solo career - Tilt [1995] and The Drift [2006] and several others...loads of experimental stuff.

Many cracking online tributes today - Damon Albarn, Thom Yorke, Marc Almond...Jarvis Cocker was a big fan.

This is really not my thing these days, but the lad could sing.

Remember going to see them at Blackpool (i think) when I was about 8, with my two sisters and mum and dad, they played one song and a load of screaming women stormed the stage, end of concert unfortunately.

It’s sad as we lose all the artists who were the soundtrack to our lives.

The best tribute I can give is that I think his version of My Ship is Coming In is better than Walter Jacksons.
Possibly the best white voice in popular music.
