Re: Meal ideas please
Could just do a day at Blackpool pleasure beach.
I did it on first dates etc when younger .... if they turn out to be boring..... you get rollercoasters. If they’re a laugh, you’ve been on rollercoasters with someone you like. Win win situation.

Originally I read that you wanted to take her for a Twix near Burnley...
I was gonna say, it'll be an expensive do.

Re: Meal ideas please
Between Burnley & Skem, there'll be loads ranging from Indian, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Thai, English fish & chips, Japanese, Mexican, American Fast Food stuff, and probably a gourmet Twix establishment somewhere.
Personally, I'd go Dutch. :
Enjoy, Funky!

Re: Meal ideas please
At your age you really haven’t got time for any mistakes so why not start as you mean to go on.
Take her to the best chippy in Burnley and to keep costs down make it a takeaway, that way she will be very impressed with your money management skills as well as saving you a fortune.
Not only will it be your 1st date it could possibly be your last as well..please give her my regards but if things really do take off and you eventually get married I insist in being chosen as your best man with all my expenses paid up front of course
PS I love a happy ending

Lots of nice eateries out there ...Funkydrummer wrote:1st date meal ideas required please for a location mid way twixt Burnley and Skelmersdale.

If its a lady/gentlemen you may finish up spending the night with lay off vegetables such as ....
Artichokes, broccoli, leeks, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic, onions, beans, Brussels sprouts, and turnips.
Also cereals, such as wheat or oats.
Also pulses, including beans and lentils.
Also dairy produce.
Also yeast in baked products, such as bread.
Also cashews.

Re: Meal ideas please
Sometimes a little extra work makes the evening smoother. Go into the restaurant and choose the table you book yourself. Otherwise - if the restaurant is in any way busy - they might just shoehorn you in anywhere.
Pick a couple of starters, and cocktails to start. Pay for these in advance, and have them brought to the table as "complimentary" shortly after you arrive (you could also pre-order a dessert to share after the meal, if you think she might be a little shy about having dessert). Offer a reasonable tip - half beforehand and the other half after the evening is finished - to ensure the night goes smoothly. If you have fewer morals, you could always instruct (and tip) the server to greet you as "Mr Funkydrummer sir! So good to see you again!" That often underlines what an important person you are - especially if she has picked the restaurant.

Re: Meal ideas please
Thanks for the advice so far. This is a stop gap measure just in case she doesn't trust me and wants to meet
half way. We have met before so hopefully it won't be a problem. As I have said, I'm 66 and on the pension
so a twix is a major, major treat but two is out of the question especially as I've only just paid for next
season's ticket !!!!
I have googled for restaurants in the area and, as said earlier on here, there are loads and loads of quality
establishments. I was looking for any personal recommendations.
Keep 'em coming lads and lasses.

As I live in the middle my choices would be
English - Ley Inn or Dante’s
Italian - Papa Luigis
Indian - Bangla Spice
Chinese - Beijing
These are all in the Leyland area and not too far off junction 28 on the M6
