Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Another game where we could have done with a change up top. Barnes wasn't getting much success and hardly anything from the ref and Wood wasn't really involved too much, yet still Vydra can't get a run out, not even for the usual 2 minutes.
Is it game over for him at the turf? Does he simply not fit into Dyche's system? I mean two games in a row, where he could have added us another dimension and some important fresh legs.
Surely he isn't going to want to stick around for another season of bench warming?

Looks like he's nudged in front of Crouch though which is a good thing.

Vydra not needed when you win 2-0.
"Wood was not really involved too much" - apart from a crucial 2nd minute goal.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
We needed the height today, Wolves are very strong on set pieces and we gave them zero chances from them today. For once I think Vydra was best left on the bench

Aye, we’d have probably won 20 nil if Vydra had played. What’s that saying about players get better when they don’t play?

For most of the second half, we looked devoid of ideas going forward and they had us on the back foot until we bagged the second. Just thought Vydra could have added a fresh perspective and give the Wolves defenders something to think about.
Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
The lad must be ****** off. It's just like Wells. Both panIc buys. Prior to our second we were so under the cosh to be honest we needed legs.

How do you class the top goalscorer of the Championship as a panic buy?beddie wrote:The lad must be ****** off. It's just like Wells. Both panIc buys. Prior to our second we were so under the cosh to be honest we needed legs.
And we've just won 2-0. Had he come on, we may not have got the second goal and they may have leveled 1-1.

Barnes was ineffective for most of the game and I also felt like Vydra would have been a good option.
But I'm far less bothered about it when we win 2-0!

Whilst at the game we are thinking Dyche is the most frustrating manager at making substitutions but at the end of the game he as usually got it right.......Very Frustrating.

Well it's hardly a panic buy. The top scorer in the Championship was wanted by several other clubs but we won the battle. I remember reading Everton put a bid in, and Wolves were definitely in for him. Leeds almost signed him.beddie wrote:What would you call it then?

Can only imagine it was down to what he was promised. Word will get round to such an extent that nobody will want to sign for us. Too many players out there who are or will be frustrated by their time here. Bad news travels like wildfire.

Vydra would have been a good option from about 70 mins when Barnes was clearly having little influence on the game
But Dyche will point to the result irrespective of the performance
Same team and formation next week

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
What's the problem? Matej Vydra's only been a Claret since August. Several of our players had waited most of their first season before they got a start. Give the guy time. Maybe when August comes again, full pre-season and all that, Matej will be smiling, enjoying his game and worth his place in the side.
But, did he really look like someone who could win a game for us, Czech Republic v England, earlier in the week?

Wood was also instrumental in the second goal - his run took one Wolves defender after him and opened up the gap for McNeil to place his shot.CleggHall wrote:Vydra not needed when you win 2-0.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
I’m sure I read something, somewhere when SD did an interview and was asked about Vydra and why he wasn’t playing and SD said he’s just got to bide his time, like Tark’s had to his first season he joined, like Gibson is also having to do.
I do think he’s got a future with us.

The first paragraph I agree with. The second paragraph - he improved them 300%. So yes, he really did look like someone! He improved them bloody loads.Paul Waine wrote:What's the problem? Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Looks like he’s completely out of favour, i agree we could and should have changed things up when the front two were getting no joy, we really need to be able to change formation in a game as we are very rigid and we don’t use subs to influence games, luckily O Neil pulled a sublime goal out of the bag for us today as 1-0 was looking increasingly like 1-1 at the finish.

The Czech's got pumped 5-0, and managed 2 shots on target. It's hardly a ringing endorsement being their best player is it?

Hi, I didn't see the game - just the result. I noted that Vydra wasn't a starter for his national team.BurnleyFC wrote:He was the Czech’s best player on the night.
Don't get me wrong. I'm looking forward to the day when Vydra is winning games for us. Several others of our "stars" have had to bide their time and win their place.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
If we were going to change anything yesterday, I think it involved JBG coming on for Barnes with Hendrick or McNeil going in behind Wood. Our problem was we were a bit narrow in possession and a bit outnumbered in midfield out of it, and I don't see how Vydra would have solved that. Of course any such change would have risked leaving us even less able to hold the ball up which is no doubt why Dyche didn't do it.
Had the game panned out differently and the onus been on us to break Wolves down in the second half, Vydra for one of the front two would certainly have been an attractive option.

It isn’t, but all things considered he had a good 45 minutes and looked a livewire. Probably should’ve scored too.dandeclaret wrote:The Czech's got pumped 5-0, and managed 2 shots on target. It's hardly a ringing endorsement being their best player is it?

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Probably should've scored may also explain why he's not playing? He's had how many attempts at forging a premier league career, on the back of very good championship seasons? He went on loan to West Brom after scoring bucket loads for Watford and, scored 3 in 23, he was at Watrford and scored 16 in the championship the season after, he had 1 game and was loaned back to the Championship and scored pretty much 1 in 2 for Reading. Watford then sold him when they were in the prem back to the Championship, where once again he scored bag full of goals, earning a 3rd pop at the premier league, without being able to force himself into the side once again.
Bad signing? Possibly
Bad decision to not play him more? Not on past form really.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
It’s pretty obvious really going off what Dyche has said in the past.
“Statistics show that substitutions don’t make much of a difference” so he likes to keep things the same unless we fall behind, or we have an injury.
Regarding defence, again he likes us to keep our shape, nice and narrow, simple stuff defend defend defend. He banks on the opponents not smashing it in from distance. Sometimes it works (Cavaleiro’s miss yesterday), sometimes it doesn’t (Batshuayi scoring for Palace from exactly the same chance).
I have absolutely no idea what the 3 of them talk about on the sidelines all game but I can bet you any money changing the whole shape of the team so Vydra can come on, is not on the agenda.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Why would he have to change the shape of the team? Vydra a straight swap for Barnes, who wasn't that effective yesterday. Let's be honest, until we scored the second, it felt like an equaliser was coming for Watford.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Fair enough, I did though, especially at around the 60 minute mark we had to make some excellent blocks in defence, Heaton had to make a decent save and they started to press us high up the pitch. Luckily their shooting was off the mark and they skied a few decent chances.taio wrote:I didn't feel we were ever going to concede against Watford yesterday.

Re: Still no decent game time for Vydra...
Perhaps on reflection Vydra made the wrong choice of club, surely at his interview he would be asking what system(s) will you be using and where would I fit in? he could then make a decision.
