We couldn't meet the valuation of Che Adams at Birmingham, this guy is even more sought after.

He would be a great signing - if we stay up. and certainly if we drop - which we might.
Midfield / Striker - can play wide. Scores and assists.

Maybe not tall enough for our scouting network

Europe is littered with players that would improve our first team within our modest budget, we'd be daft to pay the prices being quoted for Championship players

He cost Brentford £1.6m 18 months ago and is now reportedly worth circa £15-20m. If ever there was an example where we need to be widening the net on recruitment to buy good young talent at reasonable prices....

I agree with vegas, decent players from the top 2 divisions are way costly and grossly overpriced, overseas players wont demand huge wages and can often be bought for reasonable money, the scouting team need to broaden out somewhat, lots of foreign players would relish the opportunity to play in the PL, where there is a better chance to get noticed no matter which team they sign for, decent players from the PL or the championship are stupidly overpriced and to be honest not worth anywhere near the cost of their asking prices, get those passports renewed scouts and earn your keep.

Brentford get the players valuations up by playing the younger ones plenty of game time.

Brentford have a very specific business model as I have mentioned before - game time is part of it but they also employ a lot of very specilised skils coachs - their first team squad is essentially a finishing school focused on development of a product to sell and the club recognises that the best place to do that is the Championship

Murphy at Cardiff would be my first choice and should have been in for him last summer

Not sure what kind of forward Maupay is, but I reckon there's potential in Alfredo Morelos at Rangers.
Amongst the top scorers in Europe this season despite being suspended for most of it. Dyche could sort him out discipline-wise and if he keeps a bit of aggression he could be useful in our side. He's young too.

What makes you think Dyche could sort him out discipline-wise? The guy’s a nutter and would be a dreadful signing.

Morelos?

Alfredo "five red cars" Morelos?

I mean, in the premier league with VAR he'd play one game in three!

I reckon Dyche would sort him out, bad disciplinary issues at Rangers under Gerrard. Apparently he'd never been sent off before he went to Rangers.

I think he prefers showering on his own, so has taken to getting sent off to avoid sharing a shower/bath with his team m8's :D

I agree Very good finisher. Plenty of time on his side. Has plenty of bite. Only problem is his discipline.

I don't think anyone disagrees with the sentiment, but of course its an awful lot easier to condition those players to English football, and polish them into top flight players, whilst playing in the Championship than in the Premier League.

Barton averaged 1 sending off every 48 games in his career, Morelos has averaged 1 in 9 this season.

Barton also averaged several court appearances and off field problems. I dot recall him having any at Burnley!

Barton had matured as a person and a player by the time he signed for us. Dyche got the best out of him but I imagine that was by treating him with respect and as an adult as opposed to 'sorting out his attitude'.

Morelos on the other hand is an absolute nutter who seems to be getting worse. I wonder how much worse he would be at a level where he is frustrated more by lack of opportunities. A large part of our success has been down to our discipline, both tactically and behaviourally. He'd be a dreadful signing.

Spot on Joey knew he was coming to the end of his career when he signed for us.

For all the hype about Morelos and his goals,he has played 8 games against Celtic now,who realistically are the only comparable standard to any Premier League teams,in those 8 games he has failed to net once, that's even before his discipline is discussed,i wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

That's a fair point. But, using another player/position as an example - Bissouma at Brighton - they paid £15m for him and whilst he hasn't played all games this season (around 22 so far I think) he has essentially gone straight into the first XI and played Premier League football. 22 years old only. Looked raw when Brighton played at Burnley in December but also looked a real talent.

(Different thread.....but Bissouma looks a far better footballer than Phillip Billing imo and I would bet Billing would cost more than £15m)

You could also use the lad at Arsenal as your example who they signed from Ligue 2.

I fully accept that you can find the odd rough diamond in the French leagues who no one else has spotted, but it's tough, and it's even more of a punt when you're chucking them straight into the Premier League. There's a pile more players who haven't quite made it having come from those leagues.

If we were looking abroad why stop at Europe? Racing have just won the Argentine league with a game to go and they have a guy called Lisandro Lopez who has bagged 17 goals in 24 games. Now the big clubs look to South America so this guy may be on the radar but who knows? I do know that Racing still have money problems and you never can tell with these things.

Lopez is 35 and had his time in Europe with Porto and Lyon where he was prolific at both.

More on that Brentford trading model - - they had an operating loss of £350k a week last season before player sales - ouch

Brentford have a set up they stick to.

It might not work bringing their head of recruitment here.

We need someone who can spot talent that can shine under Dyche's model of football.

the price of internal players is going to rise if we end up with a no deal brexit. players from Belgium, Sweden, et al will need visas to work here, so would presumably need to have the same qualifications as non eu players need now.
That seems to have been relaxed over the years, but it still ought to rule out a lot of promising players with no caps.

Not feeling this fella to be honest. Brentford create a hell of a lot of chances, in a different system and different league to Burnley.

Context is important.

Didn't realise he was that old bud - he looks a lot younger. He went from Porto to Lyon for 24m Euros apparently and also finished top scorer in the Portugese league while with Porto. 24 goals in 27 games that season. Fabulous goal scoring ratio but. as you rightly say, getting on a bit.

Still, a look in the direction of South America would be good but, Burnley being Burnley, I don't think it'll happen.
