Good article and I'm glad Agyei has signed a new contract. I suspected he was going to leave with not featuring in the first team.

I suppose that the surprise there is Agyei being retained hopefully that means they expect him to step up next season.

He's featured in the first team and he hasn't signed a new contract, he's been offered one.

Might have been in Ayegi's best interests to move on and try to get his career going. He really needs to get out on loan if he's staying as it's hard to see how he's ever going to play first team football for us.

That is what I was getting at. Featured is the wrong word, I meant he's not been in the squad enough and SD must have had a say in all this, which suggests he still has a future here.

I didn't think he'd be staying and I think he could still move on before next season.

Would it be normal to announce this now?
Gives the lads a chance to show themselves to clubs but must be difficult for them.

It could of course be that he was offered a contract and he will refuse. Also could it be that we offered him a contract and expect him to not sign but know we would get a development fee off the Club he signed for. I read into o Steve Stones comments about some of them will be unhappy but they need to be playing first team football as an indication that they expect Agyei to step up. Reading CTs comments though that probably seems fanciful.

Of course being "offered" a contract means if he does sign terms elsewhere it will go to either tribunal or we can agree a fee.

This means we might see something in him, and that if he does go and get a contract in league football and have a good season in the future for his new club, once moving him on for a decent fee, will see us due up to 20% of it.

it's just some insurance for us.

He could do a Andre Gray/Omar Bogle or simarlily a Nick Chadwick/Chris Long

Our thanks to all the players. Good fortune to those leaving, to make a career elsewhere and congratulations to the players with contracts

I thought Chakwana had been training with the first team a bit this season? Seems to have scored a few for the U23s. Is that one a surprise?

If you read what Stone said I don’t think any that have been released are surprising really.

Basically he said they could have kept 1 or 2 for development purposes but decided to release as they need First Team football. I assume Chakwana will fall in that category.

Not since Steve Stone came in. Was scoring goals for fun up front with Agyei but Stone has rarely used him there and often left him out of the side. Given that, I was expecting him to be released.

He's been out on loan a few times. The most recent was second half of last season at Blackpool but he couldn't break into the side. I don't think he'll be staying from what I hear, but as has been said, we would be able to get something for him.

James Clarke, he was "scholar of the year" last May!

Mark Howarth has been there since he was 7 or 8 I think.

James Clarke had an injury earlier this season and hasn't been able to get back into the team since with Jordan Cropper preferred at right-back and Bobby Thomas in the centre of defence. Mark Howarth was out for close on a year because of a back injury but has been back for some time since.

I do think things have changed for some players, both positive and negative, with the change of coach during the season. Thomas and Rob Harker have stepped up and got more games while such as Clarke and Tinashe Chakwana have featured less.
