Stirling

Post by PaintYorkClaretnBlue » Thu Apr 04, 2019 6:26 pm

Stirling has paid for 550 pupils at his old school to go to the fa cup semi final v Brighton and will meet them on the day. He really does appear to be a top lad, despite what picture the press try to portray.

Why would a town on the East Coast of Scotland send kids to an English FA Cup semi-final

Do you honestly think he's that bothered what the general public think of him by now? Sounds like he made a substantial donation to Grenfell after the fire that wasn't publicised as well. Seems like the only thing he's ever done wrong is be young, wealthy and black which was enough to make him a target for the Sun newspaper.

Even if he has, he still has to go out, do it, and pay for it. Nice touch, and no doubt it will be the first time, or only time some of them youngsters have that experience.

The public are very quick to criticise, but are not so quick at giving credit when it is due.

Every credit to him. I don't think he was targeted by the news because he was "young, wealthy and black", more likely because they seem to go after all professional footballers, whenever they see an opportunity, especially around a major tournament.

Strangely the German Press have Leroy Sane as their target for the stuff Sterling gets abuse for here. Spending too much money on stuff etc ..

The outfit is shocking, but if he wants to spend his money on that stuff then he can .....

Sterling is maturing and reflecting on his position in life.

The reality is probably somewhere between the two.

No, I was merely pointing out whoever managed to tell him Nike high tops are worth £2500 is some savvy bloke.

Not sure why a town in central Scotland would either.

Nice touch by Raheem Sterling.

Can you imagine going to journalism school, getting your qualifications and then one day your job is to look up the price tag of clothes that a footballer is wearing?

Yes. I do think he’s bothered about how he is thought of by others. You show me someone who isn’t? Everyone is, even if it’s only a little bit.

Don’t think being young, wealthy and black is “wrong” and I don’t think you do either. But let’s not pretend he hasn’t been an absolute dick at times.

I think he’s a great footballer, maybe one of the best current English players, but he does make some silly decisions.

Maybe he has matured. Good for him if he has. But it isn’t that too long ago he had his “gangsta” tattoo is it? He got it because he doesn’t like guns? I don’t like Leeds but I haven’t got their club badge tattooed on my leg...

Oh. And if this wonderful donation to the Grenfell fund wasn’t publicised, how do you know about it? Yeah, I’m cynical. Maybe it was accidentally leaked by someone who is close to RS?

I think the publics “love affair” with RS began with his move from Liverpool to Citeh...

I don't seem to remember offering to pay for any kids at my old school to watch me play in a (minor league) semi final.
On reflection don't think they would have turned up, or to meet me after training either.
Just saying like.

He was perceived, rightly or wrongly, to be threatening to go on strike because he didn't like the contract he had signed a few months earlier. A contract worth hundreds of thousands of pounds per week.

He seems to be a lot more mature than he was.

The whole problem with the rich and famous is that people make assumptions about them without actually knowing them at all. All we know about these people is what the press tell us and rumour, pretty much nothing more. Rumour is what it is and can usually be discounted, the press fabricate things to sell papers, they always have done and even more so now. All we can ever do is pick through the bones of it all and decide for ourselves but even then our assumptions are based, whether we like it or not, on preconceived ideas and predjudices. If you decide you don't like someone you will gladly accept all the stories about how bad they are etc. and will tend to think any good stories are rubbish because you have already decided they are bad in some way, because the 'bad' stories back up your beliefs and 'prove you right'. Unfortunately it seems to be a trait of human nature.

Even on this site people make assumptions about others based on things they say or support, it has happened to me and I'm certain pretty much everyone at some point. We all like our likes, dislikes and opinions backed up and gladly gobble up anything that reinforces those opinions and we are all pretty much guilty in some respect of it.

By the way I'm not aiming this at anyone at all because I have been guilty at times of all of the above, we all have, I suppose I'm just saying don't be too cynical when people with bad reputations do good things because they may not be as bad as their reputation in the first place.

One of the real upsides of Brexit(especially in the way it has dragged on and on) is the way it has slowly but surely dragged out all the Closet Racists who post on this forum and in General Society. When all the dust settles they’ll find it hard to put the cat back in the bag.

Like a lot of young multimillionaire footballers black and white he’s a bit of a tool who splashes his wealth with some ostentation . ( when you have the likes of Matt Lowton buying Ferrari’s who can blame him) He’s obviously far better advised now he has a proper PR team managing him . His image needed a boost and those erm “ secret” donations made not so secret but that doesn’t mean they weren’t genuine enough as per the free tickets for his old school . He’s cracking player too though whether we’re allowed to give him any stick anymore I’m not sure ?

Pretty simple - Brexit has helped expose the true views of some of our more right wing element.
And before anyone starts that does not mean that everyone who voted Brexit is right wing or racist.
But as Will Self said in the spat with that Tory idiot most racist / right wingers will have voted for Brexit (in his and my opinion of course !)

Sorry I used the B word but his point was about the B word !!

Thanks, that's cleared it up a bit. I was probably getting a little annoyed by the constant clatter of remainers accusing leavers of somehow being motivated by racism and that is not my stance at all. I don't give a toss about who lives here as long as they contribute and are not a burdon on our infrastructure.

Thanks for your patient reply and yes, I'm having a bad day. :(
