The Eve of the new cricket season is here...
Let’s keep it clean gents. Tough start for Yorks at Notts, who literally seem to be the PSG of cricket (they buy who they want!) and naturally, Lancs. get proceedings of their own underway, in a different division, in a few days from now.
Come on Notts!
May the bantz commence

I'm expecting big things from Lancs this year.
Seem stronger in Division two than last year. Better overseas players and batting line up.

The bowling dept was brilliant last year and largely again, remains the same. Some real talent there. We just need to score some bloomin’ runs.

Lunch in their restaurant and drinks with the members in the long room and pavilion etc.
Should be a good day with the weather set fair.
We will do well in the T20 this year which interferes with the footy if we progress!

Lowerhouse's Ben Stuart was bowling today for Durham University at the Oval. 0-26 in 8 overs as Surrey got to 155-1

I don't think I'd like to be sat outside watching cricket in this weather - still a bit too cold.

Re: The Eve of the new cricket season is here...
I've renewed my Surrey membership & believe they'll be a very strong side again in the top league. I've been able to catch Lancs at The Oval or Rose Bowl in recent years but Lords is about the only convenient place to catch up with them this season with Surrey and Hants both in divi1.
It's a bit unfortunate that game is so early and clashes with Surrey v Essex, hopefully the weather will perk up and I can get there for one day at least.
Hopefully Lancs can have a better batting year and be able to bounce straight back.
It's always a bit dodgy watching cricket in early season; a couple of years ago down the Oval, I had to visit the gents every half hour or so to keep my hands defrosted with one of those Dyson hand dryers.

Re: The Eve of the new cricket season is here...
Should be a good season for Lancs as long as Hameed has a similar Summer to last year, the only problem is will he miss some county cricket due to a call up to the Test squad ?
I'm sure that Lancs will continue to bring young bowlers through like Onions, but they will have to stand up and be counted for the huge battles at Grace Road and Derby.
Once again i'm sure the members are looking forward to another season of 20/20 to keep them entertained.

It’s Dom Stuart and I believed he bowled very well yesterday against top class batsmen. Hopefully get another chuck today and pick up a couple of wickets.bfcmik wrote:Lowerhouse's Ben Stuart was bowling today for Durham University at the Oval. 0-26 in 8 overs as Surrey got to 155-1
Burnley’s Tom Lawson is playing for Loughborough against Lancs today also I think.

Some rusty batsmen at Derbyshire, 2 wickets down for 9 runs already v Durham (it was 0-2). They cant blame the weather, its a heady 10C in Derby.

Good luck to all involved.
Hopefully Lancs get what they want in promotion back to Division One and Yorks have some success in the one they want more than anything in the T20.

Hoo-bloody-rah. I fail to see how anyone can get excited about cricket. How can anyone invent a game that is boring AND dangerous. Hated it at school and hate it now. For all you cricket fans, enjoy the Summer and hope your team does whatever it needs to do to win (and in the realm of county cricket I genuinely don't know what that is).

If you have such an interest in cricket I wonder why you actually bother to check the thread and post on it.houseboy wrote:Hoo-bloody-rah. I fail to see how anyone can get excited about cricket. Re: The Eve of the new cricket season is here...
Just to be a nuisance? No seriously I had hoped that after all these years someone could explain to me the excitement of cricket, which I know lots of people love. Unfortunately I had to play it at school because although I couldn't bat or bowl worth a damn I was considered, because of my reactions, to be an asset 'in the field', which lead to me playing either in the slips or, even worse, in that dreaded position of silly-mid-on, which I soon found out the reason for it's name. I think the games teacher didn't like me.ClaretTony wrote:If you have such an interest in cricket I wonder why you actually bother to check the thread and post on it.
Seriously guys if you love the game have a happy Summer watching/playing as it takes all sorts. My wife hates football with a passion and considers every penny I spend on it a waste of money. I just feel the same about cricket.
Incidentally I don't like golf either but several golf clubs (about 25) have come into my posession as a result of berievement - I'm open to offers.

Didn’t he get some big scores for the seconds last season?
It’s going to be the Championship which counts but like you say hopefully a confidence boost because if he fails in the first few games he may be done for.

Hameed reaches 150. This young lad personifies talent. He has everything and I still predict that he will feature in the ashes. A couple of really big scores and you can’t ignore him! has

If Hameed continues like this, the selectors will have no choice other than to select him for the England side.

Re: The Eve of the new cricket season is here...
I've been to loads of cricket games in the Lancashire League over the last couple of years and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Got to say I was oblivious to the cricket but the beer was good.
I was at the Lowerhouse v norden game last year where there was one the best bowling performances in recent times (i think i read on here??) and didnt even know it had happened!
To be fair though my attitude to cricket is no different to someone who goes to a football match and stands with his back to the pitch so he can hurl abuse at the oppoition fans for 90 minutes!
