Spurs announce Trippier release

Evening Standard. Spurs announce number of players can leave at end of season - if they get the right offer. Kieran Trippier is their headline.

A few weeks back Tripps was reported as saying he'd like to play again for Sean Dyche and Burnley (or was it Burnley and Sean Dyche?).

What is the right offet? Do we have a sell on clause?

What would you offer?

Will £15m and £60k a week do it? (I don't know how long on his current contract).

Will Tripps be our new right back - as well as our old right back?

UTC

EDIT : no idea how Tripps became a random set of numbers!

Wouldn't get too excited on this one - doubt we'd be able to match his wages and he's been strongly linked with Everton

sounds like a part exchange ploy to get Keane

If Trippier goes to Everton, that will leave a couple of decent right backs at Everton well down the food chain which might be of interest to us (they've got Coleman, Kenny and Holgate).

If Keane leaves for Spurs, then that worries me a touch because it would be no surprise to see Tarkowski targeted to replace Keane once again, and we've enough to do this summer without replacing key players.

Surely Spurs would be targeting better players than Keane if they want to at least give themselves an outside chance of challenging for honours.

Swop deal, Tarks for Tripps and 15million? Would you take it?

As brilliant a signing as he would be, he's so far out of our league, it would be pointless us even trying.

No. We need to keep our best players whenever possible.
Having said that I'd love it if we could get Tripps back.

He’s had a very poor season following an exceptional World Cup. Still a player there though and he’ll sign for somebody bigger than us or go abroad.

Quality player.

Tripps will be silly money and ask for wages out of our range, if SD has a few quid to spend it would be better going on a MF and another striker with a bit of quality, overseas players would be worth a look.

If we are going to make a player the highest paid in our history it shouldn't be a full back. I love Trippier, he was on my list of 5 favourite players, but his wages are on a different level to what we can or should pay.

He’s on about 60/65k a week - which is around about what we pay now to our players ....... :?

Spurs are known for having bonus laden contracts and rewarding great form with pay rises. They’re a “big” club but they are very astute when it comes to the financial side.

Well if the story is true despite him having a relatively bad season i will be very surprised unless there is something we don’t know about that Spurs would get rid.

Not unusual for a player to not perform at their best following a WC but a year seems a long time which says to me something other then fatigue is involved, maybe a family issue?

As for signing for Burnley he might be willing to except a lower wage as he knows that he will be at home playing for Dyche again so any family worries might not seem quite so daunting.

We will see.

Spurs don't pay mega wages, he won't be on much more than ours after bonus'.

I thought it was unusual when he made the Dyche comments... I can’t imagine a deal has been agreed with safety not guaranteed though. Would be a cracking signing. He can do better than Burnley. They’ll be a few teams circling

Serge Aurier has been poor also. Looks like Spurs have a top class RB lined up.

It’s mad how many people look at spurs and think kachinggggg - Pochetino has only spent about 30 mil net since he went there as manager on transfers. Dele Alli was on something like 20k a week until he got offered an extension at around 60/70k a week.

Their bonus system is mental though, Harry Kane has clean sheet bonuses in his contract etc .... they offer smaller wages but big chances of pretty much doubling a wage for most of squad players with bonuses per game.

The Best right back i have seen wear our shirt in my generation, and if the reported £80k per week Ben Mee demanded and £15 m we offer every transfer window, I would rip their arm off.

I’d rather Mee went rather than Tarky for the very simple reason that we have a top class left sided CB already in place.

But based on the accounts we have to make at least one big sale to keep this level of profit ticking over.

As for the right back, the quality of delivery this season has been a big problem.

I’m another who would welcome him back in a heartbeat, but sees no possibility of a return to us being anywhere near the best offer he will command... it’ll be a few years before Tripps thinks about “coming home” yet.

You never know, he might fancy being the biggest fish in a small pond, being first choice each week, Southgate will see him frequently and he’ll be back up north. C’mon Kieran you know it makes sense

Best crosser since Beckham.
We plag two big chaps up front.
We have Petwr Crouch on the bench.

.....Let's sign him and score lots of goals.

With Taylor finding his form as well as Trips back where he belongs. That wing back selection is enough to get even the Bob Lord Stand excited.

I can't see it happening either, but that's the kind of players we should be targeting, if affordable.

There is not a chance he would come here. Nor that he should come here.

If he did would show a lack of ambition on his part.

He might like Dyche. He might like burnley. But the truth is the matter he can and should do far better.

Huddersfield, Brighton and Cardiff aside there isnt another club in this league he should or would choose us over. Taking pure emotion out of it.

Top player, top bloke, best right back we have had, but it would be a big no from me.

I think our plan going forward is to develop players, in the same way that we played a key role in the development of Trips. Selling players at the peak of their value was also mentioned.

Buying Trips now would mean paying Tottenham a price that is in line with his peak value. Naturally, they will try to get as much money as possible for him. So in the event of more than one club being interested his price could go over £20m.

That would be a hefty chunk of our limited transfer budget and I think it could be better spent elsewhere.

If it came down to it I suspect Tottenham would try for a Pope plus cash deal for him. They could use a quality number two keeper, or possibly a new number one, with development potential and scope for an increase in value.

Whether it is Pope, or Tarks in a roundabout way, it would be madness to countenance any move that might result in us loosing a future England star to bring in a fading England star. Pope and Tarks are in the early stages of their National team careers and as their participation increases so will their value. Tripps has reached his peak value, Pope and Tarks have only scratched the surface.

More importantly they are key members of our squad. Hart in front of our defence is questionable at this stage, Pope is a proven performer. Tarks is another proven performer. I have him down as a long term player and future Captain with us. Bringing in a suitable replacement would be a very risky strategy with a high financial tag attached. The cash that we bring in from a sale is far less important than the cash we would need to spend on an unproven replacement and the potential impact on our playing performance.

A solid defence, with a dependable keeper, is the bedrock that we are building on. It is arguably the main difference between our performance at the start of this season and after Christmas.

Weakening our defence is the last thing that we should be doing and adding Trips wouldn't cover the loss and make us stronger. Granted, he could increase our goal chances with his crossing, but his overall effectiveness is also tied to his ability to get up the pitch and he is getting any younger. With Lowton and Bardsley we don't urgently need a new first team right back either.

As much as I like Tripps, and as much as I would like to see him wearing our shirt once again, I think that we should be looking for the next Tripps. A younger player who can serve as an understudy for our current right backs.

Unfortunately sentimentality doesn't pay the bills and it doesn't win games. We could improve our overall performance by spending £20m on other areas of the squad. That amount of money would allow us to bring in more than one player with performance and financial development potential.

Tripps is a big part of the journey that brought is to where we are, Pope and Tarks are a bigger part of the journey to what we can become. Without wishing to seem dismissive, Tripps is our past and Pope and Tarks are key parts of our future.

Besides, if Spurs bring in a new right back and they move on Aurier by dropping his price through the floor (which seems more likely) then he will bump Tripps down the pecking order with Walker-Peters nipping at his heels. So either Tripps goes to Everton, who we can't compete against with a cash only offer, or he stays at Spurs and his price falls beneath his peak value; allowing us to pick him up in the future for less money.

Says he loves Burnley, says he loves Dyche, guaranteed first team football, best route back into the England team.

Got to be worth asking the question. He can only say no....
