We're not safe in the sense of mathematically safe and even if we lose to Cardiff
I think we're capable of picking up a point or two even from those last difficult 4 fixtures.
But although stranger things have happened I can't really see Cardiff picking up 3 wins or more
and that's what they might need to do.

We all know a win will guarantee safety. Even a draw might suffice.
Brighton could still be dragged down if Cardiff get a win there.

Not until we avoid defeat against them next week, if they beat us then it's squeaky bum time.

No way are we safe :o We need a result next week of that I am certain.
With away matches to Chelski and Everton and home matches against City and the Gooners to come we' have an horrendous run in. Having said that I expect at least one big scalp before the end of the season ;)

There is a huge incentive to finish as high up the league as possible. The players are professionals and will want to finish as high up as they can. It's not just about the financial side of it. There's pride and new contracts to consider. Every player will want to be in Sean's side in August, for example Matt Lowton will want to be in the starting eleven. Every place brings more money in, so let's keep going and be RELENTLESS ! ;)

Does this help? If you were down to you’re last £100, would you bet it at 20/1 on a Clarets relegation? Yes? We’re doomed. No? We’re safe as houses!

I definitely wouldn't.

I'd take the 25/1 that's available with Betfair ;)

If we beat Cardiff it will be akin to the Palace away win a couple of years ago. It won't mean mathematical safety, but it will pretty much take a miracle to go down. It will also mean there are several other clubs far more vulnerable than us. But we do need to beat them because bearing in mind the way we've been this season we're quite capable of eeking a point or two from those last 4 daunting fixtures, but we're also quite capable of losing all of them.

Even if we were to lose against Cardiff there is little evidence they'll still get enough points from their remaining games.

Wouldn't like to test that theory though,if they beat us,Brighton and Palace that takes them to 37 points,as was mentioned further up the thread we could easily lose our last 4 games, that's why it''s vital we at worst get a draw next week.

After Spurs I expected us to push on into the top half.

The lads are doing themselves proud, but I’ll not assume anything. I’ve been around too long to not suspect Cardiff might yet catch someone above them. Putting to the sword would kill off Cardiff’s dreams and make sure it is not us

Like all the teams in the lower half, we've unfortunately been the model of inconsistency this season. We've done much better since New Year, but still, after two excellent performances against Wolves and Bournemouth you start to fear there's a poor showing waiting round the corner (and just when we need it least!) If we can put Cardiff away it will almost certainly be enough, but assuming it's going to be fairly straightforward after looking very good against two very decent sides is a mistake. After the euphoria of yesterday I'm now starting to feel very nervy as next week end is so massive. And whatever your opinion of Colin, he's absolutely no dummy and he will get them organised and up for it. The fact that they're still in with a prayer when they've struggled so badly at times this season, bears testament to his management skills.

No and you're dead right. I did say yesterday that there are several other teams right now who are far more worried than us.

really impressive second half of the season once we started to play a bit more football. Despite wanting him to I really didn't think Dyche would turn it around so absolute fair play to him and the lads

We are eleven points ahead of Cardiff and they could theoretically get fifteen and so how are we mathematically safe?

Nope, I know it's not entirely impossible, but this evening I'm really not worried (any longer). Even you have to admit that for the first half of the season and especially after Boxing Day it was ALMOST nailed on we'd go down. Since the euphoria of Udders away it's been a whole lot better overall and although we may well not get another point from the last 4 games, it really should be enough. I really credit the players and SD for that, but in particular McNeil because without his emergence I tend to think we'd have been f***ed!! Having said that, even happy clappers like yourself, must see that we need to make some serious and "strategic" upgrades in the summer or we won't get away with it next season. (And that doesn't involve chucking out an entire squad or spending £gazillions which will be a huge gamble)

Not yet but we could be safe before we kick a ball again,if Cardiff don't win on Tuesday, then they have the small matter of Liverpool's visit on Sunday.

Not forgetting the Barnes/Wood combo who ultimately fired the goals to secure survival.

And of course the club captain.

Certainly are no doubt about it for me

1. 17 goals swing and Cardiff need to win all and us lose all won’t happen.
2. Brighton need to win twice with us losing 3 errr won’t happen.
3. Saints are even 4 points behind us.

I am looking up the table not down finish as high as we can 11th would be great

Nah, we always improve after Boxing Day; 23 unbeaten in our last Championship season and 28 points in 16 games this season. It’s what we do! :D
