The club has said they won't pay PL wages until they are back in the PL. Not sure how much Gayle earns but guess £50k a week. As a general point we should be able to pay that for a key signing.Spike wrote:what makes you think we will pay more than WBA?

How many PL sides tried to sign him?Spijed wrote:Prior to getting injured I suspect many Premier league sides would have loved to have a player like Walters.

Herrera will be 30 before the next season finishes - if he's coming to the PL, it's going to be a one-time thing.Shore claret wrote:Surely with another season under our belts we can sell ourselves as a sort of feeder club, players that are trying to get a premier league career can move to us to put themselves in the shop window and then move on if they are a success.

What's that got to do with it?taio wrote:How many PL sides tried to sign him?
Are our signings now to be judged on how many other clubs are after the same player?
Re: Transfer Targets
Of course, and we no doubt beat off stiff competition for his signature.Spijed wrote:Prior to getting injured I suspect many Premier league sides would have loved to have a player like Walters.
Sadly he got injured and in truth became an expensive mistake, that many people called on his arrival. ( I was in the decent signing camp btw )
But the argument still stands his wages, fee etc we lost on Walters wouldn't have been the same on say a Brooks, as he'd have had more years to improve and develop even with similar injuries. And failing that I'm sure if it hadn't worked out, we would have recouped some if not all of our outlay.
Walter's biggest injury came whilst on loan at Ipswich, with a year left on his deal, he had to drop down a league for a reason after injury. He wasnt deemed good enough for a struggling Burnley out fit.
Re: Transfer Targets
No but by saying many other premier league clubs would have wanted him, makes his question a good 1.Spijed wrote:What's that got to do with it?

How many wanted him that much they tried to sign him?
I'd guess between 0 and 1 other clubs tried to sign him.

Everything - if as you say many other PL sides would have loved to have had Walters they would have tried to sign him. How many did?
No, our signings should not be judged in that way - what's that got to do with it?

Re: Transfer Targets
Prior to us Walters had only scored 43 goals in 7 Premier League seasons with only 9 goals and 50 appearances' (inc as sub) in the previous 2 seasons. He had only reached double figures in one season in his whole career and he was never gonna be first choice even for us had he stayed fit.
He was actually fit in the middle of the season when we were struggling a bit for attacking players and he still couldn't get much of a look in. Had he stayed fit then im sure Dyche could have gotten some decent value out him like Dyche has done with a lot of mediocre players but to suggest lots of other Premier League teams would have loved to have him is fanciful at best.

Every player who ever played in the Premier league had never kicked a ball in the PL before their first game.nyclaret wrote:James Maddison had never kicked a ball in the PL before this season.

Re: Transfer Targets
Loads of players who could make the step up from Championship, I don’t get the he has no PL experience, plenty of players in the Football League who deserve a chance and a club like us that’s the way we should be going imo, just seen Darren Fletcher being released, maybe worth a punt on a one year deal.TheFamilyCat wrote:Not sure why you seem so certain that Bowen, Maupay and Adams who’ve never kicked a ball in the PL would improve out starting XI, nor Bryam who’s played less than 30 games and was farmed out on loan to Notts Forest last season.

Re: Transfer Targets
Every player had zero PL experience at some point in there career. I didn’t say we shouldn’t buy players with no PL experience. I was just questioning why you would be so certain that these players would be an improvement on those who have been playing at a level above them.Rodneyyouplonker wrote:Loads of players who could make the step up from Championship, I don’t get the he has no PL experience, plenty of players in the Football League who deserve a chance and a club like us that’s the way we should be going imo, just seen Darren Fletcher being released, maybe worth a punt on a one year deal.
