Sun says Everton to cash in by selling Prickford for £50 million and replace him with Nick Pope from Burnley for £10 million. Ha Ha! Does everyone think we are completely stupid in the transfer market?

1. Asmir Begovic 5
2. Jordan Pickford 4
3. Sol Bamba 3
3. Martin Dubravka 3
3. Bernd Leno 3
3. Alisson 3
7. Cédric Soares 2
7. Harry Arter 2
7. Charlie Daniels 2
I still struggle to see what people see in Pitchfork and if he is worth 50m how much is Tom worth ..

Re: Pope
Pope’s value will have decreased but I would still be expecting a minimum of £15m in this market, and be hoping for £20m.

Re: Pope
Nobodys going to pay big money for anyones third choice keeper. You can forget that.
As a young England keeper challenging Heaton for the first team slot here he'd have commanded a fat fee.....the signing of Hart has effectively buggered Popes England chances and reduced his value by anything up to £15m.
And God only knows why he's behind Hart.
Utterly mystifying stuff.

Bizarrely and regardless of whether Everton have another good keeper or not they are insistent on picking him. What are Mr Kenwright and Co thinking about. If that had been me (the job was working for a law firm) I would have been disciplined and probably sacked.Steve1956 wrote:Pickford is an overrated show pony bar brawling thug,I hate the sight of the big headed little shite

Why would anyone pay 50 million for pickford? There's probably 10 better goalkeeper's in the Premier league, the only thing he has is he's young.

Re: Pope
Who on Earth is going to buy Pickford for £50 million!? Surely that's a typo or a whopper, even by Sunday journo standards and as others have said Pope would easily command between £15 and 20 million in today's market. I know he's only had one PL season, but it was a bloody good one and it got him an England ticket to the WC!

Re: Pope
so what do we do, do we keep Tom who is 32 which is about the prime age for a keeper or put our long term faith in Pope ? Tricky one, Heaton has been immense since the day he walked through through the doors, Pope was superb for the games he played last season. Pope is much more commanding when dealing with crosses and high balls imho, Heaton is tops at everything else. Not a decision I would like to make

Re: Pope
Spot on and yep somebody (including to a large extent the players themselves) has a very difficult decision to make. I actually believe Pope is overall the best of the 3 keepers, but no way could you drop Tom (Liverpool away not withstanding!) unless he gets hurt, so Pope is looking at a season on the bench if, as I would expect, Hart shuffles off stage left. Will Pope agree to that? I very much doubt it. So a real problem looming.Vegas Claret wrote:so what do we do, do we keep Tom who is 32 which is about the prime age for a keeper or put our long term faith in Pope ? Re: Pope
There’s little question my mind that Hart and one of either Pope or Heaton will leave this summer, no way we will keep both Pope and Heaton. The brains trust will have some soul searching to do. Hart’s merely taking up space, it’s beyond me why Pope isn’t on the bench as back up, unless there’s something going on behind the scene.

Re: Pope
10-15m be a good price , sad to see him go but he’s a top keeper . It’s insane how our domestic keepers are generally ignored by the prem clubs .
Pickford won’t be leaving Everton , we’ll certainly not over that bar handbags anyway .I personally think Heaton and Butland are fractionally better overall but JP has a tremendous take off for dives and he’s been tagged at Eng level since a 9yo. Don’t anyone doubt he’s a top keeper but he doesn’t quite have that the coolness the greats like Schmechael, Buffon , Banks etc had imo

Re: Pope
Pope is wanting a move, which is understandable, given his lack of game time and standing as an England player being affected. This info is from someone close to him, (no puns please, it's fact).
But this part I don't know is, which 1 is Dyche going to consider losing of the 3 goalkeepers. I would consider Hart to be the likely one, because he's the poorest of the 3. However both the board and manager may consider the transfer fee received for Pope could be put into the transfer pot, for next season.
Pope might also be told (I hope) he is under contract and stay to fight for his place.

Heaton keeps number one at his peak.
Pope gets game time to prove fitness ahead of challenging the year after.
We have excellent backup and don't have to buy a new keeper.

Bad business like Andre Gray ? Keane ? Jay Rod etc etc ? Trips and Ings were out of our hands . Personally I also thought 7 ish milk for Vokes plus Crouch wasn’t a bad bit of business at all . SV needed games and Crouch was pretty much a freebie .

Re: Pope
£10m for Pope in the current market has to be laughable, I would be hoping for something in the region of £30m given his age and proven ability. I would be open to a season long loan to Everton, as I believe a good performance would place him in a more realistic price bracket should he wish to move on. I would like him to remain at Burnley, in my opinion he is the best keeper we have.
