Herts Clarets, isn’t Phil Cav now chairman of Bedford Town. He’s another ex player who has done well for himself since he stopped playing and also a nice bloke.

Yes he is. I spoke to him quite a few years ago and mentioned I lived in a village in Bedfordshire at the time, doubt you will have heard of it. When I said it was Arlesey, he told me they won the 1995 FA Vase at Wembley and to check who the manager was. Sure enough it was Cav. As you say he is a nice bloke.

When he was an apprentice, he was always the first to turn up (8am) on the days they'd to clean the terraces.
He's still big mates with another apprentice at the time Dave Tait, who I keep in touch with.
I think Cav was due to come upto watch his team Newcastle play us this season, but something cropped up, forcing him to miss the opportunity.
Remember him living on Burnley Rd Cliviger, near the Queen pub and seeing him a few times on the Tod ( green) bus.
My daughter played in goal for Burnley girls and Phil gave me some goalie gloves and other kit for her, which he got from the German sports Co he then worked for. Ive got his contact details and keep saying to myself I will get in touch with him again, but like owt else, time goes by and I forget.

He has invited me to Bedford Town v Dunstable and to get me into the boardroom on Easter Monday. May well take him up on that offer. Sure he will have plenty of Claret stories to tell.

Against Hull I believe when he launched the corner flag and it was funny.
Here he is bagging one, even the rozzer applauds.

Bearing in mind our opponents, the Sala Stand. Oh no, on second thoughts, we couldn't - we've paid for it...........

Herts Claret, will you ask if he knows of the whereabouts of George Dormond (a Newcastle lad) and Steven (Fred) Else (Mansfield), both apprentices at same time as Phil and Rob Higgin, who like myself often wonder what they've done since leaving Burnley.

it's taken longer to build these than both of our new stands in 1995/96!

It was definitely against Hull. It was discussed on the message board some time ago and Cav registered to comment.

I got slated a while ago for this but I still think it’s disrespectful to name the stands.

The way of the world is if they can monetise something they will.

I now see/hear more reference to the stands by the names of players that the old names of bee hole and long side.

If it's not a player, it will be a company like the Oak Furniture Bob Lord (or totally wicked as it was) Stand or Ladbrokes CF Stand (not sure if they have actually done that officially) but it's the way the world is now - I hate it also. I'm waiting for the GM Fitted Screen and the new corner stands to be commercialised.

We are a traditional club but whether it happens now or later - I wouldn't slate you for having that view as it's one I share - but progression and change will happen no matter how disrespectful it may feel now.

I agree that it's disrespectful to name disabled facilities after disabled former players. You honour players for what they achieved with the club not the disability that sadly afflicts them now. If we want a Gary Parkinson Stand (to use one obvious example), rename the CFS. Don't rub his nose in it by naming one of the corner stands. You wouldn't name a burns unit after Simon Weston.

I recall Darren and Doug doing a detailed video in an edition of Turf More, a month or so ago.

The first corner should’ve opened at the start of the New Year but there were some problems. They said that they’ve been resolved and that the stand will be completed and opened to a few fans, to test the different vantage points, lifts, services etc, by the Cardiff game. Really looking forward to seeing it finished. It’s about time, but at least there are no more delays :-)

Went down to get some Chelsea tickets today so had a walk round. The one in the Bob Lord/Jimmy Mac corner doesn't look much different than the last game. I then went round to have a look at the one in the Longside/Jimmy Mac corner. Are they seriously going to be using that tomorrow? Doesn't look anywhere near ready to me although there was a lot of work going on.

I know someone working on the new stands. The Longside/Jimmy Mac one will not be in use tomorrow. They’re hoping to have it ready for the last game v Arsenal.

I'd have been amazed if it was in use looking at it today, but the last update from the club was that it would be in use. Mind you, in the previous update they suggested it would be ready for Everton on Boxing Day.

Progress has been painfully slow, even after the initial problems around the foundations were finally resolved.

You know that one bloke you see with the high vis on who is sat in the corner stand while the game is on?

Is it just him building it by himself? Seems like it.

It's a shame the area designated for the disabled supporters couldn't have been on the other side next to the Bob Lord and JM stand, it gets all the driving wind and rain towards the JHS.

Is the current disabled seating going to remain where it is or will that be reverting back to normal seats once both corner stands are finished?

Why couldn't the cladding be made to match the stands around it i.e. claret, then a blue stripe, then white. Or even all Claret to make it easier?

Same with the paint inside. White and grey just makes the stand stick out like a sore thumb when it's surrounded by claret and blue seats - surely this would've been a better idea?

(Excuse the dodgy paint job, but you get the idea!)

Yes, having it all black doesn't seem to quite match. The new grey cladding on the front of the Bob Lord stand looks better and I'm surprised they didn't do similar with this corner stand.
