Black Peas

Post by Oshkoshclaret » Mon Apr 08, 2019 4:33 am

The recent thread about black puddings got me all nostalgic for some good old fashioned black peas with vinegar and a knob of butter.

But how to obtain them here in the USA? After much research I discovered they're known as Maple Peas and are sold as bird food to pigeon fanciers. So I bought a 20 pound bag on eBay for $19.95 and have just cooked some up.

I have to say they are quite magnificent.

Green peas matter too.

There's no room in this world for any discrimination what so ever.

Yes I took some down to Kent in the 1970s for bonfire night, the natives were bemused/confused but some liked the taste - a mixture of mush, vinegar, salt and pepper. I could eat some now.
