Nope, for allegedly having sex with women without their consent, then avoiding proceedings for it.

The rape case in Sweden has been dropped I recall but he's initially wanted here for breaching his bail when Uk were looking to co-operate with Sweden over that.
I doubt Assange has much to fear directly from UK or Swedish courts; US courts may be another matter. Interesting to see how this develops from a legal perspective.

As the Swedish extradition request has been withdrawn is it correct that all he has facing him in the U.K. Court is breaching his bail conditions (to reside in Norfolk?).

As it’s 7 years ago are the CPS out of time to lay any Information for failing to attend Court or was that done?

Given the normal punishment- is it in the public interest to pursue this

How ironic would it be if the US didn’t apply to extradite him (the US would apply to U.K. as Sweden no longer interested?)

It will be interesting this one. Obviously the US were very keen on getting their hands on him but then Wikileaks (possibly indirectly) supported Trump's campaign through the tactical release of information so they may not be as keen as they were to have him testify.

I think the reason the UK couldn't extradite directly to the US was there was a possibility, although remote, of the death penalty being applied.

He failed to surrender to court. The stitched-up rape case has been dropped so he doesn't have to worry about that but he should still face justice for the failure to surrender.

I knew people were ****** at The Killers headlining Glastonbury in 2019, but this is a bit OTT for my liking.

Edit, in all seriousness though, this is what Wikileaks just tweeted out..

Julian Assange will be taken to Westminster Magistrates court this afternoon. He has been arrested under a US extradition warrant for conspiracy with
@xychelsea for publishing classified information revealing war crimes in 2010.

Which, in my view, would completely justify his failure to surrender. But that's not what the BBC reported, and i trust the BBC more than I trust a Russian propaganda arm.

Edit: No, looks like theyr'e right. My info was out of date.

The Killers are one of only a very small number of bands these days that can class as headliners.

Some awful line ups doing the rounds this year and a lot of festivals not bothering going ahead.

For anyone interested or who may have forgot, this was what really got the US upset at him and why various public figures were openly musing about the US assassinating him, which is one of the reasons Assange was extremely suspicious about being extradited to Sweden over a rape case that had already been thrown out, and the Swedish authorities refusal to question him in the UK (because that was all the extradition request was for - questioning, not charges or a trial).

Before we get to 'tin foil' hat about this, he was a bit of a sex pest who hid in a cupboard for years.

Not sure the charges got 'thrown out' either. The minor ones just expired because the Swedes couldn't get hold of him.

I didn't say charges. But the investigation was certainly ended by the prosecutor shortly after it begun. Then it was picked up by someone else, for some reason.

presumed Ecuador allowed his arrest based on some legal point that he won’t be extradited to a country with the death penalty . I’d have thought Sweden his best bet , couple of years inside listening to ABBA whilst having his balls tickled then a life eating meatballs with some occasional consensual ? Blonde on blonde action

At the time it was suggested that the US would attempt to extradite him from Sweden if he ended up there.

As for Wikileaks embarrassing the US ten years ago with their release of secret US documents; that is actually the US embarrassing themselves. Would it be just for a person who enabled the bringing to light of US war crimes in Iraq to be sent to the US and tried as an enemy agent?

It's unfortunate, but normal for a country to have secrets. And it's understandable for a country to want to punish one of it's own citizens for betraying that secrecy (to which you can imagine they swore an oath). However if a country has a secret which is a crime, and it tries to cover this up, and someone from outside that country makes it public, then it has to be doubly shameful for that country to punish that person for it.

It really depends on whether Assange induced the leak, or simply accepted the leak. If he encouraged it then he committed a crime and should be prosecuted for that. But if he's prosecuted for anything related to the actual publication of the video then that's so far beyond ****** up that it wouldn't actually surprise me from this administration.

His asylum status was revoked by the Ecuadorians. Something to do with Wikileaks releasing something about the President of Ecuador and corruption.
