Jimmy Dunne

Post by Tricky Trevor » Sat Apr 13, 2019 10:08 pm

Anybody know the latest on him at Sunderland?
Doesn’t seem to be getting much game time from what I’ve seen of them.

That's got to help his chances of being picked next week. He should be knocking on the manager's door, saying "I learned about defending from Stan Ternent and I would fit into this team". :D

Sunderland conceded 5 at home today, centre halfs were poor according to a caller on 606, Dunne was a benchwarmer.

Given they shipped 5 today i suspect he'll be recalled for their next outing.

Was speaking to a Sunderland fan today who said positionally he is awful worst he’s ever seen was his opinion. I mentioned that he was highly rated at Hearts and that Scot Prem is a level above League 1 he had no answer to that but said nothing complimentary at all.

A shame if true but it is. McNeil is a Premier League quality player, Koiki is younger and is performing. Our current programme is succeeding.

Some players will show promise and won’t make is. This is reality.

Then you were also speaking to a prize bell end.

There were rumours after an interview with our director of football (his name escapes me) that Sunderland might sign him. On the forums the fans seemed non-plussed at best.

Sunderland let in 5 and Jimmy was on the bench.

Jimmy can't be up to much if he can't get in that side

It was a big risk from the club to take him out the environment at Hearts where he was thriving to a club in turmoil, going for promotion with huge pressure.

A lot of us on here warned it was a bad move for him at the time. But some thought it was a risk worth taking and league one was a better standard.

Didn't the club say they wanted him to experience a more challenging environment - the pressure of a demanded promotion push, more critical fans, the stress of needing to win - that was al seen as part of his development if he was going to play for us and rightly so

Looking like it was a mistake to take him away from Hearts. Confidence is massive to any footballer and removing him from an environment where he was respected and liked to a toxic club like Sunderland, could have a detrimental effect on his progress

He has to experience different kinds of environment and pressures if he's going to make it. Whilst it sounds like Hearts was good for him there has to come a time where you take him out of his comfort zone.

That being said, the criticism from Sunderland fans, if accurate, says more about the quality around him and the coaching/organisation of the team - bearing in mind he's a young player who's still learning.

Maybe next season we could look at a more typical League One side rather than Sunderland who are something of an anomaly at that level.
