Bench plus?

Post by vinrogue » Sun Apr 14, 2019 4:07 pm

The players on the bench yesterday plus injuries gives a clue to how good or bad the squad is. Hart, Pope, Bardsley, Long, Gibson, Ward, JBG, Brady, Lennon, Defour, Vydra and Crouch.

Looking at this list really does highlight recruitment priorities. However it is not too shoddy a back up.

We may as well reduce the size (width) of the bench.....

O/p, you seem to be making conflicting arguments?

They are conflicting arguments, I don't play computer games (too old), I just wonder in amazement at how far we have come in the last 12 years when the list of players not getting a game are practically all internationals. It begs the question of what next for us and with what squad?

I can see up to eight of them might leave at the end of the season depends on our planning but its an ageing bench thats for sure

I can't see both Hart and Pope being here next season,Lennon is another who might be moved on,the emergence of McNeil means he's unlikely to start,Brady and Defour are injury prone and have contributed nothing this season,Crouch i guess will get a Championship club if he's lucky and doesn't want to hang up his boots.

Of those listed i'd keep Pope,Bardsley(1 year)Long(decent back-up)Gibson(if Tarks goes he'll get games)JBG(key player),Vydra(but he must be cheesed off warming the bench)ideally some of the others would be sold or released to free wages for any incomings.
