You seem to be judging GoT without seeing it but of course you are perfectly entitled to have no interest in watching it....i didn’t before I watched the first episode and was surprised that I liked it as in truth i know dragons aren’t real (sorry to break it to you like this IT)

The Mrs went down to her daughters in Woking for a couple of weeks (when her daughter was diagnosed with Breast Cancer) I saw Sky had the box sets on catchup.... so thought I would see what everyone was going on about up the pub, as I was bored and fed up one evening......
After episode 3 series 1 ... I was hooked and binge watched the 1st 4 series in just over a week.
Haven't watched Mondays episide yet but cannot wait.

They're going to fit the (assumed) stop of the undead march into 1hr 20m?Imploding Turtle wrote:4x 1h 20m episodes.
There aren't that many loose ends to tie up. Most of the big reunions happened in the last episode. There's Jon v Dany to sort out, the Battle for Winterfell's basically going to be one whole episode, and we're to find out who Azor Ahai is. I'm hoping and thinking it's Jaime.
In terms of Azor Ahai, forgive me for being thick (read the books and only just rewatched the series again) but I don't recall it being mentioned in the films. I didn't even know it was a thing.
As I said. Apologies for being thick! I had to Google it!
Re: Game of Thrones on NOW TV
Yes. The show has had backlash over the more rapeier elements of the show and there will be a mountain of ******** written and said if the 'saviour' turns out to be Jaime. This is the reality of stories; they are a vehicle to understanding ourselves after all and folk often use these big tent-pole stories, stories with a massive cultural impact, as a mirror. There are other networks (and movie producers) with more apparent boardroom-influence and more sanitised storytelling which wouldn't countenance the ending you (and I, as well) hope for. To be clear, this isn't a commentary by me on #meetoo, but the confidence of HBO going in that direction. (Even if the ending was decided upon decades ago.)Imploding Turtle wrote:Wait. What? How's #metoo a part of this? Are we both talking about Bran and Jaime?

A lot of the criticism is ultimately inconsequential, matt, (beyond viewer ratings, and the way the show alienates some of its fans) but yes, there has been some backlash over its course. If you look at even the wiki entry for the show, there's a section on the reception to the sex and violence.

TBH i think if you read too much into the morals of a show where people slit throats for fun while dragons fly overhead, you'd soon struggle to find anything to watch that didnt offendSpiral wrote:A lot of the criticism is ultimately inconsequential, matt, (beyond viewer ratings, and the way the show alienates some of its fans) but yes, there has been some backlash over its course. Re: Game of Thrones on NOW TV
Azor Ahai is the story thread that was attached to Melisandre and Stannis. She thought Stannis was the Prince who was Promised, then after assassinating his brother, burning his daughter alive, which led to the suicide of his wife, she ****** off to Castle Black before he got himself killed at the Kerb-stomping at Winterfell. I think the only Baratheon in the show she isn't responsible for killing or getting killed is Robert, but who knows. Maybe she encouraged the bore.Claretmatt4 wrote:They're going to fit the (assumed) stop of the undead march into 1hr 20m?

Anyway, she resurrected Jon and decided he must be Azor Ahai.
There's also the red priestess who paid Dany a visit in Meereen, Kinvara, who posits that Dany is the Prince who was Promised (there's no gender specific term for Prince and Princess in High Valerian).
And i could be wrong but i think Thoros thought Beric Dondarrion was Azor Ahai too.

It has been the subject of scientific inquiry, specifically psychological reaction to the story's morality, and probably will be the basis of countless theses for years to come. It's a cultural touchstone almost as important as Alien, IMO.ZizkovClaret wrote:TBH i think if you read too much into the morals of a show where people slit throats for fun while dragons fly overhead, you'd soon struggle to find anything to watch that didnt offend

Thoros brought Beric back to life numerous times, but Beric is definitely dead by the end of the books and Thoros is a monk at an sanctuary where the Hound is recuperating. Not sure if Thoros ever thought Beric was Azor Ahai, but his ability to bring him back to life reinvigorated his own faith.Imploding Turtle wrote:Azor Ahai is the story thread that was attached to Melisandre and Stannis. I'm sure most of you won't really care, but Fender have made three Game of Thrones style guitars; a tele, a jag and a strat, and here they are being played with the composer of the theme tune, the outrageously talented Ramin Djawadi.
**** hot, if you like this sort of thing (especially with Anthrax twatting out the theme tune on the Stark guitar)

Re: Game of Thrones on NOW TV
So. Who's going to die next episode?
I think Brienne, Greyworm, Theon, Edd and Arya are all contenders for being killed. Perhaps even all/most of them. And this is a bit of a long shot, but possibly Jon.

Re: Game of Thrones on NOW TV
Do you think they'd kill more than one off in an episode, red wedding style, again? I'm not so sure, but neither would it surprise me.
Greyworm, Edd and Brienne, I think, are nailed on to die at some point. I hope Arya doesn't. Ambivalent about Theon.
What chance Dany getting Jon killed to stop his claim for the throne? Or what chance Dany being pregnant and marrying him so they both get the throne? What chance Jon dying before that happens? What chance Jon and Danys baby is the prince that was promised and is given to the white walkers to end their attack? Lots of questions.

Jon and Dany getting married would solve the issue of who has the best claim to the throne, and probably make the fans happiest.
This is precisely why I hope they don't do it. Fat Sam to kill Dany to let his best mate sit on the throne, even though Jon probably doesn't want it.

I think it would be too unrealistic for Martin not to kill off multiple main characters in the Battle for Winterfell.

Well there's certainly quite a few of them on horseback within sight of Winterfell.
Wouldn't be surprised if NK took his dragon to take out the relatively unprotected south with an assault on King's Landing, rather than risk losing his biggest asset in a 2v1 dragon fight.
If so then I hope the Hound lives through the battle of Winterfell, travels south and kills his walkerfied brother. Jaime can kill zombie Cersei.

Am I alone in thinking that knowing the number of episodes and that this is the last season removes the suspense. It is obvious that the good guys cannot win this battle. Must be a take Bran and run ending to the next episode. I reckon at least 3-4 of the recurring characters will be gone by the end of the next episode. Sir Brianna is toast.

To say they spent 6 months filming that one episode and had the biggest budget of any GoT episode before, I was a bit meh about it all until the ending.
