Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
Here's a couple of snaps of our 1970 World Cup squad ......
That's preparation for you .... the young lady they're all studiously ignoring in the 2nd photo is singer Susan Maughan, she turned 80 last year !
Can some of the greybeards fill in the names ??

Certainly Jackie Charlton and Roger Hunt there...maybe Everton full back Tommy Wright?....Ramsey didn't approve of his squad sunbathing. That's why they're covered up.
(My beard, such as it is, is grey.!!!!)
BTW, Just had my hip replaced Saturday afternoon, Clarets for me. Waiting to be discharged.

Many Thanks. They don't mess about in Bolton, Clarets 4 me, except at Bolton Wanderers that is!!!Clarets4me wrote:You've done well, Claretfern, if you're out within 3 days ... all the best for a speedy recovery !!
Re: Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
It certainly looks like Roger Hunt but he's not on any 1970 world cup squad list.
The guy sat between Franny Lee & Bobby Charlton I also think is Tommy Wright rather than Hughes

I think most are correct .... though your Emlyn Hughes might be Norman Hunter ... and 1st left ( half cut off ) on top photo, Jeff Astle ..South West Claret. wrote:1st Pic. L to R. Peters, Banks (dead) Newton (dead) Hughes (dead) Lee, Charlton B, other 2 are mere shadows of there former self

Could be right C4M, but if it was Hunter wouldn't he be sitting on his own
Re: Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
I would say Hunter is on the b&w pic and not the top pic.Clarets4me wrote:I think most are correct .... though your Emlyn Hughes might be Norman Hunter ... and 1st left ( half cut off ) on top photo, Jeff Astle ..

Good shout for Jeff Astle. At first viewing I thought it was Peter Thompson but couldn’t recall if he was in the squad.
Looks like Alan Clarke, to the left of Roger Hunt.
I adored Susan Maughan.

Obscured by big Jack, I think you're right ... Roger Hunt went to both the 1962 & 1966 World Cups, did he go to Mexico as part of the back-room staff, I wonder ??Dazzler wrote:I would say Hunter is on the b&w pic and not the top pic.

I think Hunter is the one on the sun bed behind Jack.Clarets4me wrote:Obscured by big Jack, I think you're right ... Roger Hunt went to both the 1962 & 1966 World Cups, did he go to Mexico as part of the back-room staff, I wonder ??
Regarding Hunt,he could have travelled as staff like Adamson in 62.not seen anything in writing though.
Re: Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
Nothing on this about Hunt as part of the staff.

Re: Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
He'd been transferred to Bolton the previous season, might have used his " signing on " fee to go as a fan, and popped in to see the lads ??Dazzler wrote:I think Hunter is the one on the sun bed behind Jack.

Re: Pre match relaxation 1970 style ...
Just checked on the Getty Images site, it is Tommy Wright between Sir Bob, and Fannie Lee .... they reckon it's definitely Roger Hunt and Terry Cooper in the b/w one .. I think the gent seated far left may be a local/non-player, looks a tad on the old side !

Jack Charlton to local Gent, seated to his right ( feet on seat ) ....
" Well Pedro, me old son, I'm sure Sir Alf does want us to get on the Bus, but if you just park your arse here for a minute or two, there's a smashing bit of overtime just coming out of that pool hut shortly " ....
