Took them about 10 years to sort out York Minster, a real shame. I hope they can save as much as possible.

The spire/roof has just collapsed in one of the most iconic buildings in the world. One of the most important buildings in the history of Fance/Western Europe.

I hope they manage to get in out before in spreads to the rest of the cathedral - such a magnificent building. It's one of the most visited landmarks in Europe.

Just switched the news channel on. This really is a tragedy.
Used to go to Paris a lot.
Nearly always stayed on Rue St Jacques, just round the corner. Had many street breakfasts down by the cathedral.

Never really in danger during the 1st World War, and the French had surrendered before any fighting could take place near there in 1940, and relatively speaking, there was only small arms and mortar fire during it's liberation, many prisoners were executed on both sides, with the resulting death toll being around 2,900 Soldiers, Resistance fighters, Police and Civilians ...

Has Macron blamed Brexit and Nigel Farage yet ??

Was only watching an appeal, apparently it was likely to have to be pulled down in the next 5 years as the foundations are crumbling. They were asking for government help. Hopefully a payout will focus minds on saving it.

I find some of the comments on here shameful.

That building is part of our heritage whatever one's beliefs. It is absolutely awful watching it burn.

I agree - it is a tragedy. We are watching an iconic medieval place of worship burndown. You don't even have to be religious to feel utter sadness at what we are seeing.

It's already been decided who's to blame. And if it turns out that it's not "them" to blame then it's all a conspiracy, or something.

Was a pretty cool building, to be fair, so i understand why the sensitive people can be a bit over-sensitive about it.

But yes, it's juts a building. The history hasn't been lost, just one structure. Or parts of it.
