Remember when the tannoy announcer at Deepdale used to rush a mumbled Burnley Team out after reading the Home Team out in an appropriate manner? That was back when PNE were superior to us.

When was that then? The 1890’s....Lord Beamish wrote:Remember when the tannoy announcer at Deepdale used to rush a mumbled Burnley Team out after reading the Home Team out in an appropriate manner? That was back when PNE were superior to us.

If you think that what we do now is anything like what used to happen at Deepdale, back in the day, then you weren’t at Deepdale, back in the day.Foulthrow wrote:You mean like we do now?
Re: Insulting rival teams....
I did go to some of the games at Deepdale but don't particularly remember this. However, I do have a problem when they spend all their time either screaming inaudible nonsense in the belief it 'creates an atmosphere' or mumble the names of the opposition - I actually want to know who's playing or coming on!Lord Beamish wrote:If you think that what we do now is anything like what used to happen at Deepdale, back in the day, then you weren’t at Deepdale, back in the day.
Re: Insulting rival teams....
I got free tickets for Hospitality at Man Ure on Boxing DAY. They childishly the same. I had seen our team so when he had read the subs -I simply had to "DEAN MARNEY"!

That’s a fair enough complaint.Foulthrow wrote:I did go to some of the games at Deepdale but don't particularly remember this. It’s still a lot different from the shabby contempt shown to our Team by the official match announcer at Deepdale back in the Noughties. They enjoyed their temporal ascendency over us with some relish. It’s now been a decade since PNE finished a season in a better position than us. That’s not going to change this year either.

Not sure if it was also at Deepdale or not where the announcer once read out the home team as normal then said something along the lines of the Burnley team being as per the back of the program!

Re: Insulting rival teams....
Didn't the scoreboard guy at Norwich in a game against us replace Ipswich with Sc*m when their half time score flashed up.
Also I remember the Swindon PA guy going on a rant about the refs first half performance at half time and getting sacked

Junior Bent. Remember him?
Took to the field for Bristol City against their Rovers rivals. The tannoy announcer introduced him and followed up with 'I bet he is'.
He got sacked too.

Re: Insulting rival teams....
Back in 2003-ish I was a sponsor at the Norwich-Burnley game. I was the only Claret fan that Norwich knew. Bryan Gunn was head of marketing.
At half time my party, that included my 6 year-old daughter enjoyed our cuppa in the hospitality suite. The scores came up on the electronic scoreboard...Reading 1 **** 1 (meaning Ipswich)
I complained to Bryan. The scoreboard operator was dismissed on the spot.

Re: Insulting rival teams....
Apologies Bosscat and DA - my tardiness. I didn't notice your posts about the Norwich game. Yep...the sacking was down to me and the official complaint made whilst frequenting the Delia restaurant as a Claret sponsor. Still got the matchball.

When Darren Bent was at Villa with Ashley Young I am sure I remember a MotD announcer saying and the Strikers are Young and BentZom Zom wrote:Junior Bent. Remember him?

It was for Alexander first game back there after signing for us and it was the PNE fans that were more annoyed than us as it didn’t give them the opportunity to welcome him back

If it's the same Adam Catterall that pops up on talksport during the night, he has now reinvented himself as a t'Rovers fanFoulthrow wrote:Christ. I know that bloke.

He always was a Rovers fan. He's from Blackburn. I assume he just claimed to support PNE to get the gig?Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:If it's the same Adam Catterall that pops up on talksport during the night, he has now reinvented himself as a t'Rovers fan
